A little late, the week has whizzed by!

Not doing much today, G will get a day off I think as tomorrow we've got a dressage test-riding clinic in the morning and then a sj clinic in the afternoon! Expecting G to be somewhat surprised by this but he gets ridden 3 times a day at camp, so it's not that big an ask of him.

Anyone out competing?

Kira had regionals yesterday so a quiet one for us. Millie has her first shoe since the last injury next week so will do some prep for that, plus I ought to clip off her beard etc!
Good luck to all competing :)

Gallops today :D VERY excited it must be over 12 months since we last went!

Topaz out dressage'ing Sunday, fingers crossed we have calm topaz as our schooling was interrupted by a killer cat stalking us last night :D. Ok it wasn't really but Topaz thought it was and it didn't help it kept legging it across the school.

Come on how did Kira do then :)

Yes MP, how did Kira get on yesterday?

Good luck tomoz AH and enjoy the gallops to eat, wheeeeeee!

I'd be excited too VG , hope you find a good one, I love my lorry.

Pfft not playing this game any more I was under the weather last weekend so cancelled plans, this weekend F seems a bit under the weather so is off games. Had organised a classical dressage lesson today which I've been trying to sort for a while now, and xc tomorrow as practice for raf Halton. I'm instead cruising the Internet looking at horse boxes (the price range is staggering) and he's eating his head off in the field no doubt. Might go for a quiet hack tmrw and see how he is and go visit the lady of leisure, Tinkles and see how feral she is! Have fun everyone !

Had a fab dressage lesson with a new instructor yesterday :) he reckons lola could have a bash at an elementary soon :)
Off out hacking with a friend today and clipping roo out :)
Then lolas off to the local all weather gallops tomorrow to have a good canter :)

I'm going to be de-bearding and de-moustaching my horse (the moustache might take more than one trimmer charge!) and generally trying to get him back to piebald rather than off-white and black. Also trying to fit in schooling sessions today and tomorrow as we haven't been able to school recently and have just been hacking.

Then I need to rejig one floor plan, and invent one new one for my two tests. I'm not normally this disorganised but we didn't think he would be going so it's all going to be a bit last minute.

Gallops were fab and just so pleased to have Doodle back :D we did lots of 'weeeeeeeeee'ing' :D.

Super stuff Milliepops that's a great score and beautiful pictures!

Kira looking fantastic Millie!

I am just hacking today which is lovely in this weather. Tomorrow will be going unaff jumping.

Went CR show jumping on Thurs but turned out I was a week early 🙈 And had a SJ lesson on Wed with Peaches who is turning into something of a SJ star.

And one of Daisy cos I can't leave my main girl out. Hoping her new saddle will be here soon as I don't really like jumping her in an unstable sheepskin pad!

Eat, drink, and be merry .... especially as daughter is cooking supper tonight! :D

Have had a VERY difficult ride on my newly clipped pony, in a freezing wind.

More painting to do tomorrow - hopefully without gouging a hole in my hand getting the lid off the tin ...... I have now been told a chisel is not the tool of choice for those who know better!

Gave Mr B the day off and borrowed a friend's palomino shetland to give my neighbour's daughter her first ride. I am not a huge fan of shetlands but "Porridge" is an absolute sweetie and the child (5yr old ) is also a sweetie. I am not used to tacking up a 10hh pony so I must have looked pretty useless! Child smiled from ear to ear, pony marched out happily and it just brought back so many good memories of my own daughter starting riding. Doing it again tomorrow and thinking "wouldn't it be fun to do lead rein classes"!!!!

Off unaffiliated showjumping this afternoon, I really do prefer early starts doesn't give you as much chance to become nervous. At least the weather is good for travelling down. Currently sat entertaining the children with the TV waiting to call the venue at 10, we didn't ring ahead last time the clear round ran over by nearly an hour so we were waiting around for 2 hours before our class

Well I've had a fab day, but am totally shattered now. Found the place I was going to eventually, and it was incredibly spooky, which it is a great thing as he was just like he can be at a competition, so she really got me working on his tension and submission, and he started to really soften and listen to me. She then made me think slightly differently about my position, I tilt my head to the right and let my right shoulder drift forwards, so she got me thinking about where my chin is which really helped. After a good 45 mins with her, I went to the other arena, which was surrounded by various horse-killing implements such as jump poles, bushes and even other horses in their fields :rolleyes3: After spooking his way around the outside of the arena, we went in to ride the test and G went completely flat on me, he was awful to ride, which again was brilliant, as I could then get some help with riding him when he's like that. Ended up being there for 1.5 hours, then dashed back home via the petrol station as we were running on fumes, and I chucked him back out for an hour while I mucked out and did all my jobs.

Brought him back in, and he looked rather surprised when I got the saddle out again! Got on and he felt quite sprightly, there were 4 of us in the group and 2 of the others were being rather, erm, keen so I was feeling a bit nervous as it was winding G up a little. There was lots going on outside the arena too, so we had a few spooks but once we started jumping, G really focused. We had a couple of really good rounds at about 80cm, and then I called it a day as we were both tired and I wanted to end on a good note.

Now on the sofa with a hot water bottle on my back and a cup of tea!

See you there(Raf Halton!)

sorry about quality of all pics, they were screenshots of videos from my crappy phone! :) back to work tomorrow for a rest ;)

we had a really lovely weekend, had a long awaited lesson with a fantastic local trainer (it is really hard to get a date in her diary as she is always in demand :-) ) she is just brilliant with me and my boy!
we trundled up there Saturday afternoon in the cold.

I am having a few problems with him rushing in trot and also getting correct lead in our left canter strike offs, keeping him forward,as he tends to get tense and come up against my hand and get behind my leg, then I start flapping and it all goes wrong!

we started in trot and she gave us some great exercises to help, really bending him around my inside leg and keeping him forward, he dropped his neck and head and I could feel him starting to push more from behind.
so, in canter I seem to always have too much inside rein contact ( it appears I am trying to turn his neck not his body!!) so by correcting this and me sitting up straighter, we got the right strike offs!!
the canter is still a bit onward bound on that leg, as he has a huge stride and hasn't learned to balance properly yet, but so much better!

i was so pleased,, felt that we are not totally useless :-)
he felt brilliant and the trot work felt so lovely and effortless by the end, just got to work on it and hopefully it will all come together .

we just do not have enough formal lessons and I think had got a bit "stuck"

Sunday, we briefly practiced all this again on our own in middle of 20 acre field ( no arena on site!) and 90% of it worked ! YAAY

I still need to really think all the time about turning his body not his neck, but it made so much difference!

he was such a good boy, so we went for a nice hack and had lots of canters, each time I asked we got the correct lead ..YAAY

we are doing some combined training for our riding club in a few weeks time, so am hoping we won't disgrace ourselves!

sorry no photos, OH was too cold and sat in the car ;-(

she looks fab, love the gallops photos!

Bad OH monte! To think of OH's own comfort ahead of taking pictures, tut tut, further training needed there too I think :-)

It really struck a chord what you were saying about trying to turn your horse from the neck/rein rather than turn his body. I'm struggling with that too. I then tend to lean in like a motorbike which, as always with my riding, is the opposite thing to do!

LOL indeed.. note to self, must train him better........ it was very cold though , to be fair :-)

yes, if only riding was easy, we just get one thing right and something else needs fixing .. :-)
