Since there is no thread yet I will start one.

We have a dressage lesson tomorrow so yay. Also got a saddle fitting in the morning as it is too tight again. Saddler is amazing texted her tonight and she booked me in for the morning yay! I was prepared to just use a riser until I could get her but won't have to now. :)

Sunday maybe a hack or if brave jumping!

Rode him tonight for the first time all week (a friends niece was riding him at the beginning of the week). He put on the show of "I am scared and therefore will do nothing" act at the start and basically I could only get a 10m circle in walk at the least scary end out of him at the start without him freaking out. Just persisted kept talking to him and very gradually we got to the bottom of the arena and in a relaxed manner. Only one proper spook too and he didn't get far before i stopped him.

Hoping it will be better tomorrow or we may spend most of the lesson with him on edge but i think he will be better. He usually tests me a lot when i get back on after a while off and the next day he is better.

helping friend with stressage tomorrow and then HUNTING Sunday. Basil will be beside himself with happiness when he gets off the trailer and sees the hounds but I hope he realises this is one of his last chances to hunt as if he doesn't have brakes with this bit ill be running out of options. Still I know he will be a very happy pony and it seems like a bit of a treat for him after he's been such a dude eventing this season. Even if it is the last time he ever goes..

What bit are you trying Michen? I assume you've tried different nosebands as well? Hope it goes well.

Rach glad to hear it sounds like you've changed your attitude a little and are working through the problems with your horse, however it sounds like you've still got a way to go. I'm sure he's not "testing" you and going at it with that attitude is not going to help. Consistency is really important, and if you can't work him for a few days, he sounds like the sort that is going to be on edge. If you can't keep the regular work up, you're unlikely to really get any positive results with him. Hope the lesson goes well.

I'm picking Big G up from horsepital this morning, 2 weeks of box rest with grazing in-hand until the sutures come out, followed by 6 weeks of small paddock turnout and the walker, which is brilliant news, he'll be back in work by Christmas :)

He is. He goes in and just goes "I don't want to work" so naps, spins, spooks etc to get out of it because in the past I would have just gotten off. Now if I stay on and keep him moving he settles down and realises I won't let him win. He isn't scared either he will go down to that bottom end very relaxed once he has given up on trying to scare me into not working him. He is just smart and knows how to push me. But I did basically train him to know that so it's my fault. Once he settles down he is much quieter so is nicer to ride. He just takes a little while still to realise i won't let him win.

A Liverpool Pelham/driving bit. Yes tried various nosebands including a kineton. I'm not very hopeful but it's just a shame because he adores hunting and it keeps him sweet and perky.

Had a little school this morning with Kira, then Pencoed Area Festival tomorrow. Not feeling overly hopeful as it's indoors and Kira thinks indoor schools are all huge horse-eating whales with their mouths wide open ready to gobble her up.
But encouraged by her general work, we're fixing a few subtle problems and that's opening up a whole load of good stuff that she's ready for - had some good changes this morning and the canter feels brilliant afterwards so feeling excited for next year.

All quiet for Millie, bit of schooling and a little hack. Riding YOs horse for her while she's away tomorrow - I love riding other people's horses as I'm SO NOSY!! :D :D

My lesson was brilliant. It was with Cathy burrell and the difference from beginning to end of the lesson was amazing. He was totally taking the mick at the beginning of the lesson so she gave me a whip. He went more forward after that and I was able to work on my position after we got him going better. By the end he was forward had a beautiful contact and was round and I was actually sitting up correctly.

She agreed though that he has been taking the piss for far too long now and I need to change my attitude with him and make him work. If I can get him to work like he did today though consistently he will be amazing in a few months. She liked him too and didn't agree he was dangerous too which is a bonus. He just knows how to play me too easily but no more. Changed attitude. :) So proud of both of us we worked hard today and he was fabulous.
