Weekend plans :)

mixed bag for us but ending on a high :D

Kira did Medium 76 and then her AM freestyle in biblical rainstorms on Friday. I haven't been that wet since i gave up eventing, it was vile. All the riding-in-the-rain practice came in handy and I was actually really pleased with her, but the judges didn't agree... got a load of 4s in the medium which i really didn't expect (and I'm no optimist when it comes to scoring!) and then the freestyle was all a bit 'meh'... Really low scoring day so the winner of the freestyle only just scraped 60%. Very strange day and came away feeling an odd mix of deflated and defiant!

Star of the weekend though is super Millie, who had a sneaky BD outing on a ticket. It was suppose to be just a bit of fun to see if we can get the quality of changes out in public that she can produce at home, ahead of a lesson looking at her tempis this week.. lesson cancelled sadly so suddenly in my head the test grew into a huge challenge, not helped by arriving to find the likes of Gareth Hughes. CDJ and Phoebe Peters in the lorry park and a really rather intimidating warm up arena!
Having given myself a slap, I remembered how to ride, and it was SOOOOO lovely to be out with my old campaigner. Off we went for AM98 which has 6 changes in it :o wondering why I'd decided this was the test for us... and she tried her socks off. a load of 7s for the changes on the serpentine, and the others were true, just not as nice... quite quite amazed and some nice comments from the judge.

So in a little bit of a quandary now about what to do next, I hadn't intended to compete her really so her basic work is a little flat at the moment, but 67% in super hot company was a good enough score for me to maybe rethink that approach... arrrrghhhh who's got a crystal ball?!:D

Ah yes, I know that deflated-defeated mash up feeling well....
Sounds like a fab outing on Millie - what's your reason for not competing her? Just the physical niggles?

It took a very long time for her to come sound after her sdft surgery last year... tbh I'd basically retired her in my mind so it feels ... greedy? To pursue anything now

But it's never been the work that's injured her, she does things in the field. And she's really enjoyed learning her tempis and zig zag ... so I dunno. I am very careful not to do too much in the school so hopefully that'll keep her going for a good while. I couldn't live with myself if she broke down because I was too pushy. :(

Woo hoo, we hacked! My ribs survived! Walked AND trotted! It has seemed a very very long 4 weeks off riding... so glad to be back :) :)

That could be a photo of my pony...looks exactly the same from that angle!

Woohoo, we came third in our Area Festival today! Managed to completely split the judge's with a 7% difference in scores :O. One of them didn't like Pocholo at all!

fabby! Congratulations :D Good solid start then, which second round will you be going to?

Well done on your weekend too! Such a shame the judges didn't always agree but at least the ponies went well :D

Second rounds depends on who else from my yard qualifies and for what (including if we manage a Novice qualification...we have no medium paces so let's see! Just need to get one more sheet at Novice level). If it's just us we'll probably go to Widmer Farm but if there are a few at different levels we might make a trip of it and go to Bicton for the weekend.

We went to the eventer trial - Just show jumps and workers jumps however it was a proper class, not a clear round. His first ever proper class.

We only started jumping from canter on Wednesday which he took to rather well if a little keen! We got 20 penalties for a run out, although I'm not really classing it as a run out as we were never really anywhere near it, a bit of a steering failure. Plus sides were no bucks, no near death experiences in the working in, all poles left up.

High jinks on Wednesday

Congratulations Jiffy and CM, seems like a good weekend for competitions :)

I see what you mean MP....difficult situation. Maybe the odd dressage comp wouldn't hurt? with Kira coming on so fabulously and you being such wonderful owner I can't imagine that you'd be tempted to push her out of her comfort zone.

:o :o
Lol thanks :o
It was soooooo nice to be out with Millie, she doesn't take a lot of working in so I'm hopeful that perhaps we could just do a bit now and then...i have a silly dream about tail coats and it would be the icing on the cake to do it with her :o

Congrats everyone on competition results! Everyone seems to have had a good weekend :)

MP agree, I'm sure the odd competition now and again wouldn't hurt, I'm sure you'd be careful and not push her and she'll probably enjoy it, so why not! :)

You know that doing it once (or twice :p) and being sensible and not pushing-pushing-pushing or aiming to win isn't hugely removed from the training you're doing (assuming you're doing all the movements)... And clearly tailcoat Millie photos are something the world needs to see...

What she said ^^ :D

:D yes, I do know that on the surface, and that's kind of why I let myself do it on Sunday - one test, with a short warm up on a good surface is actually less than she's been doing at home.

Arghhh but my heart is frightened in a really irrational way. She's used up all her lives. I think we will tentatively creep along doing one test at a time and just see how we go. One think I'm aware of is that I really haven't really trained the trot collection or extensions at all since she came back to work and they need to be a little more 'on the button' so even if she does her whole warm up in working paces, she can deliver a weeny bit more in the test.

Thanks for the reality check guys :o
it's much less daunting to look down the tailcoat barrel on Millie than Kira :p .. K still has that unknown quantity of 'will she agree to this today or not' whereas M is 100% in it, just for the laughs.

So do you have a tailcoat ready? :p

well I've got a black one from my eventing days ... :wink3:

but reeeeeeally I think that getting her to that level BD would justify a shopping trip.. navy's where it's at  Can't ever sell the black one though, I bought it second hand from Nicki Parnell who rode at the Olympics and WEG for Bermuda in it! How random.

ETA we're a little way off at the moment though, she's only just proved she can do proper changes in public so let's not get carried away *just* yet ;)

Clearly your black tail coat is now equestrian memorabilia, so your shopping trip is both necessary and justified. #AwaitsShoppingThread

Fairplay do a tailcoat in the same style as my short grey jacket in navy which isn't bonkers money....

#enablerandproud #youareclearlywinningthePSGrace

...on the wrong horse, I thought Kira was the one in the race, lol

Well obviously you buy the tailcoat for the debut on Kira (because it would be jinxing it otherwise)....but a little dress rehearsal test practice on a noble, experienced steed would be entirely rational.....:p
