agree, it'll be a sad day when she moves away but my god, you've really looked out for that horse :) I hope her new owner has many years of happiness with her, sounds like a really good match.

Waaaahhhhhh weekends are really boring with only one horse in work, I'm usually plotting all kinds of fun by this stage in the week. I need a new project! :D :lol:
 
I rode my new horse :D and had a little jump today which he seems to really love. I think me and this wee guy are going to get on very well

I've been busy doing some trailer training so will be testing that out tomorrow and Sunday which will be our first trips out
 
Today I have spent 3 hours in the pouring rain flagging an XC course for an ODE on Sunday. Not quite finished, but once I got to the point where every single piece of clothing I was wearing was wet (?!?!?), I and my friend gave up and said we'll go back in the morning.

I can't imagine that most of the people taking part have any idea how long it takes to get everything ready - still got to set up the sj and dressage arenas and get al the paperwork ready.

I bet someone complains about something, but by Sunday I'll not be very receptive to moans!! lol

It's a fabulous thing you do and much appreciated. I always try to send a note of thanks afterwards, and thank people on the day.
 
Two days of fence judging at Somerford for me. I'm a dope and didn't realise it was the same weekend as the Europeans - I've got no data left so am hoping they give us some updates over the tannoy!

So Saturday will be spent bathing, trimming, primping and preening ponies! At least 3 are normal colours! 2 chestnuts and a black.

In the Shetland world anything that isn't black is deemed coloured btw. We're a bit weird like that! :D

Sunday is also the owners day at work so I will nip along to that if I have time after the show.

my friend often does the Shetland shows she has 3 now and I am often roped in to help with showing them, I really enjoy showing them they are such fun good luck!

I did have 2 days of ridden showing planned but today is now off as my lift there is not going and couldn't get a hire box, bit gutted as we don't get many local shows with Arab ridden classes but am at a show tomorrow which will be good practice for us as I have a fairly big busy show next week.

Great to hear - I knew he would be perfect for you. He's a smashing little horse; if only we could have cloned him before he got on the transporter😜

Have been really busy with work the last few weeks so am all horsed out I'm afraid. Time to catch up on the domestic front, get some grocery shopping in, just relax - have some good food and movies. Need to recharge the batteries.

Thank you, that's a lovely thing to say. I don't regret a minute I've spent with her she's given me many hours of fun. And I agree. You definitely need a project :D
 
I went somewhere!

I treated myself to a morning out with ponies as a reward for hitting my minimum word count (still more work to do but....breaks are good for you, right?!)

Just went two villages over to do the clear round. Got a new saddle on Tuesday. Tried jumping in it and had a total utter brake failure. This has been brewing but I was reluctant to upgrade the bitting, however, he was so bloody rude on Tuesday that I just thought sod it!

Thursday, tried him in a little 3 ring gag with a sweet iron and copper mouthpiece. Seemed to work very well.

On arrival today, very, very tense which makes him really hard to get off the leg. When he's behind the leg, he bucks. Big bucks. Became softer and more forward after we started to pop a fence.

Two clear round tickets purchased and off we went. Wanted clear round tickets rather than classes so I could circle etc as required.

Ha! He is one in a million! many thanks for finding him for me, he really is super. I will do a proper thread in a few days, my folks are visiting and my dad is a keen photographer so will have a few pics to share

Well I was at PC champs being a general lackey and plaiting monkey for our local area polocrosse teams, at least until I got a call saying all the ponies were in the wrong fields and causing chaos at home. So I stayed to do the last lot of plaiting this morning and drove home as quickly as I could to find them returned to their own fields, but with considerable evidence of last night's misdemeanors :( Ponies... Wretched little animals.

Thanks. I bred him and broke him myself like my others. My studying has meant progress has been slower than ideal. My plan now is just to get him exposure to as many new places as possible, as often as possible.

He made me realise just how much he has grown up at home as we used to have this problem at home if a horse was grazing the other end of its field or something equally as daft.
 
Well I made it back to somerset, hoping it will stay dry long enough for tomorrow but on a bit of a downer as I caught a lump on his willy (and then had to try and grab it again before the sun went down!), he's been clear for four years :(. I think he'd rather I stayed in cambridgeshire!
 
CM, your horse is gorgeous, looks like he loves his jumping! Wheels, sounds like you're going to be having lots of fun with your newbie! Very exciting!

XC schooling today was mixed, Henry was pretty fab once he got his confidence up and we had some lovely jumps, a few green moments but he's so genuine so I can forgive him. I had a bit of a confidence crisis (I think because it was our first time XC away from home without instructor since R's accident) and rode like a complete numpty and decided that cantering into jumps was terrifying. We've been going great guns at home and I've been feeling so much more confident recently, so it was frustrating that I took a few steps backwards because he really needs me to help him out and I just wasn't delivering today. So sack the jockey but pony deserves a big pat! No photos unfortunately as mum is a technophobe and couldn't work out how to use the camera :D

It was never there - photobucket have turned into a complete scam and want you to pay several hundred dollars to be allowed to use their site to host photos like we have done on here for years. Try using imgur or you can as i just found out use FB photos if you add this code to the image address.

I find posting pics here nigh on impossible so good luck with getting it to work Wheels.

Well done to all involved in stewarding or flagging events - what miserable weather to be out volunteering in.
 
It was good IG. Have made an offer but they haven't accepted or declined it yet so my enthusiasm is waning a bit and I've seen a few more to view which are younger and the same price as I offered so I'm not sure what to do.
 
Oh dear - was your offer far from the asking price? You would think they would give you an answer one way or another 'like we're holding out for the full price'. Strange to be left in limbo like that. Well at least there are other candidates out there for you.
 
It was well under the asking price but I feel a very decent offer for the horse which has been for sale for a while and is really quite a niche type.

I might need you to find me one if this fails :)
 
Urgh, indecisive sellers are very frustrating. Still...no harm in looking at others while leaving your offer on the table. I think confident point and shoot jumpers are the hardest thing to buy because you just can't tell from an advert, so you're sort of doomed to traipsing around trying everything that sounds vaguely promising. A friend was looking for one a few years ago - didn't care what other quirks it had, just wanted something to take her confidently to a fence, no questions asked. We ended up just looking at experienced hunters in the end.
 
FW the fact they didn't refuse outright means they're considering it so chances are they will be back to negotiate. That will be interesting, keep us posted on developments.

And as for your second paragraph I had better plead the fifth amendment lest it sets off a button pusher and gets me banned!

That's the problem. I've bought a professional show jumper and managed to get him looking at just about every fence like it's a monster. He probably will still be good for me in the longer term but right in this moment I need something which doesn't care if I'm telling it not to jump. However I also don't want something crazy towing me into a fence either. And it has to be good on the road with all traffic and not a plod. 15.2 -16.2 cob or heavier Irish type with a very sane brain. Prefer something that doesn't over jump and I don't really care if it jumps any higher than 70/80 - safety and non spooky being the optimum things. Don't even mind if it's green to ride if it's got the right sort of brain.

I wondered about hunters but there's not a massive hunting scene up here really so haven't seen anything.

So if anyone reading this thread does know of something fitting that description feel free to pm me ;)

Well I'm sure someone with good Irish connections and an eye for a good horse might be able to find an Irish hunting cobby jobby behind their sofa or something....

Ah yes, tricky, there are quite a lot of hunting cobs around these parts so there's a fair selection. The biggest issue for my friend is that the really good ones had sellers looking to sell to a hunting home, so she had to be a bit creative about her plans for the horse :p
