This week is really dragging! But thursday afternoon is upon us, just.. what's everyone got planned?

I'm going to support a friend competing tomorrow morning, followed by a quiet weekend trying to kick the cold I've been brewing for the last fortnight. Will take Salty back to the new arena on Sunday.

Kira has a show on Tues.

Have fun all :)

polework clinic on Saturday. I'm still wheezing following post xmas bugs and the pony isn't much fitter - so we might be standing in the corner needing oxygen at half time!

You must be in a different time zone, it's flying by here!

I haven't even caught up with last week's thread yet, to report our stonking dressage outing. Did about the best we could do in the first test P2 for 73.97%, a red frilly (plus qual for CTR Champs - whoop) and lovely comments from the judge who I had been told was quite harsh. Really chuffed as felt really nice throughout, I really focused on being relaxed and thinking ahead for the transitions and was able to catch and react to some of the more tense moments.

Left before the 2nd test sheet for P14 was up but I know we got 69% for that - it didn't flow quite as well but still v pleased with that score. Clever pony.

This weekend I'm doing P2 again and a 50cm SJ class. It's aimed at nervous novices and I feel a bit of a fraud now after last week's outing but we do have limited comp experience and have done very few combined training classes. So for me it's practice in doing more than one discipline in a day.

Am super chuffed as one of my goals was to qualify for a local champs in dressage. Still working on the sj confidence but it's coming along nicely. Now need to test it in a comp environment!

Have fun all.

Well we are going to jump some drainage ditches tomorrow :D

On Saturday boxing to the gallops
On Sunday boxing to my friends for a jump

Have fun everyone

I'm off to dressage again - a different venue to last week riding Prelim 5...

Bringing my son who's 6 on his new pony so I'm nervous about that..... I may have to ride her first.

He's only doing a walk and trot test though...

Fiona

Not much unfortunately.

I really would have liked to go back to our SJ training show we went to last Thursday but I won't be home from work early enough.

Saturday I have a flatwork lesson with my classical riding coach

Sunday will probably hack out

I’ve got a long weekend - Friday and Monday off work too - I am SO looking forward to it!

We are kicking off with a flat lesson tonight, practising “effective clear aids without trying too hard, constricting and causing tension” :D

Jumping at home tomorrow, hacking Saturday, going out show jumping Sunday, Monday depends on how good he was at the show-jumping - maybe another hack if the weather is OK to make the most of being off in daylight :)

Good luck to all competing!

Monthly riding club dressage for us on Saturday, there's a big entry in the Novice (9) but I'm most excited about the elementary as at only our 2nd attempt we're going to win!! Yes, we're the only entry!
Nothing planned for Sunday then and I've not got the money for a lesson on Monday so I think a nice refreshing hack is called for!

flat work lesson tomorrow, which im really looking forward to as haven't had one for nearly a month, and he always has us doing something new and challenging.
then a hack on Saturday - weather permitting - and I might be helping a friend at an unaff sj comp.
then on Sunday we are back out for more combined training. he has a lot to live up to after the last time out, and he's being a bit of an idiot at the moment, so it could be interesting.

Back at uni again now, so boring weekend plans of exam revision :( Might try and sneak in a hack on Sebastian if the weather holds up, we've had sideways hail every day for the last 3 days, not the most pleasant to ride in!

Brought horse back from his winter break today. He looked a bit alarmed when he saw me coming with the saddle ;) but we went for a nice hack and he seemed quite pleased with himself.

I'm lucky with his temperament. I haven't been on him for 2 months and he was as calm as ever. So I'm planning on more hacking over the weekend. I might put him in the box and take him somewhere different.

Am planning on doing a lot of our schooling while hacking this year and spending less time in the arena. He can be a bit lazy so I think varying our routine will pep him up. I suppose the laziness goes along with the calm temperament .

Good luck all out competing - bet the eventers are getting itchy for March now, I know I am and I'm only an enthusiastic spectator

I have a much needed day off work today and am off to a clinic this afternoon - first tuition I've had since October so I'm very much looking forward to it. Then the rest of the weekend I will be hacking big man and some currently unspecified tatting about with the girls.

Arena hire with XC portables, a ditch and a water splash on Sunday for me. Not sure what to expect from the mare (only been riding her full-time since xmas) but it'll be fun finding out :) Hoping the weather stays favourable!

Was planning to go to Aintree for indoor show jumping on Sunday but had a very deflating jump lesson in the week where Amber literally pinged me off her over a 70cm fence jumping it like it was over a metre! So I'm too nervous now. And am back to stressing that I am just not a good enough rider yet to get out competing with her.... When it's fine it's fine! But when she gets a bit onward bound it all goes to pot as my position/seat just collapse! So plan is lessons, hacking and maybe the same local show I did last week. And re-reading Sylvia Loch!!!

Much love for the giant this morning.
Went drainage ditch hopping, had found a really nice wide mile long verge with about 20 ditches , handily in increasing size.
After a very brief wobble at the first, giant pony got the idea pretty quick and by the end was pricking his ears, locking on and carting me over - even did a bounce of ditches!!

Don’t think it will take too long for his welsh brain to get the idea

Sounds like everyone's got a busy weekend ahead! I've eventually got transport again (went for the Kia Sorento after much toying with Pajero/Hilux) so boxing up with a friend and doing some XC training at Epworth - soooo looking forward to this as Sky is starting to feel a little stale in the school now so I'm hoping some jumping out in the open will perk him up a bit!

Sunday we will be hacking both ponies out and Sky will be doing a bit more jumping in the school with the girl who has him on loan seen as I'm stealing him on Saturday!

I do my towing test in the next week as well so from then on we'll be certain to be out at least once each weekend so Sky and his loaner can get some milage in jumping at new venues to get their confidence up :)

Good luck everyone competing - and have a great time to those training, remember to keep breathing and keep smiling! :D

Bernster, that is a FAB score! Welll done!!!!
For everyone competing, good luck!

Schooled Chilli today in her new bit to see if she liked it. I totally mis-read the bit ring measurements and pretty much ended up with a bit that looks like you'd put it in a teeny section a. It's a 'magic snaffle' and I'd never really heard of it before but read about it a little online and was pleased to see it is BD legal! Well, goodness me, it was like riding a different horse! Typically Chilli can be a little inconsistent in the contact and when hot will just bear down on the bit and run through it. She took a few minutes to figure this one out and then went AMAZINGLY. Even when she was hot she stayed light in my hand and a lot more relaxed in her body. She seems to prefer it to the linked eggbutt she had in before. We had amazing travers in canter and even went from K to C in canter and had some travers on the diagonal! With all the work she's been doing recently the goal of HALF PASS seems genuinely possible. Doesn't sound like a big deal at all but for me I'm just so excited as I've never been able to ride like this before. Ahh! It also means that I'm finally at the point where I'm not only at Chilli's level but now able to improve her and teach her new things. So excited for our next lesson! Her canter walk transitions were much improved, too.

Tomorrow I'm going feed shopping with mama and then we're going to do the horses together. She shall learn how to muck out shavings now that Trapper has moved onto them! Sunday I'm working. Boo!

Sorry for the long, gushing post. Far too excited!

Can't wait for her new noseband to arrive (a patent copy of the fairfax performance drop noseband) as I'm not so keen on flashes and think she'll really like it. Now have a laugh at those tiny bit rings!

Arghhh! I was going to do a BE115 dressage Sunday, but have a start time unexpectedly early that would mean getting up at crack of dawn to prepare. For a UA RC single dressage test in freezing temperatures, it just isn't worth the effort. Might go and do the farm ride instead.

That sounds fun.

All sounds like things are picking up.
Weather allowing I have dressage at a new venue on Sunday. Not been out for ages, and we’re both low on competition experience (this will be our sixth outing) so interested to see how she copes with a new venue.

We had a fab schooling session yesterday followed by a brilliant lesson today. Miss Sassy has really been asked to apply herself recently and it's paying off. No sloppy transitions, and I'm gradually managing to close down the various evasion techniques. Today we started working properly on walk to canter transitions and she's cottoning on to them. We had one of those lovely, almost bascule moments on the last one we did, so, much praise and we ended on a good note. I got some really lousy quality videos of us yesterday, but really happy with how things are going at the moment. Hack tomorrow then day off on Sunday. First competition of the year booked for a couple of week's time, so watch this space!

Good luck to all those out and about - enjoy and keep safe. xx

We’re starting to compete again after a bit of a break over Christmas.

Newbie has been away at jumping trainer’s yard to get ready for his first show with us. Popped him down a few classes as it’s been months since his last outing and he only went and won his first class :D

His lack of fitness caught up with him in the discovery though. He rattled a fair few and one fell near the end of the first phase. Still happy with him - he tried so hard, bless him.

Our other horse Piccolini also placed yesterday - he was 3rd in the CSI2* in Sharjah so a successful day overall. :)

Today’s been pretty quiet. Worked on keeping the poll high with Raz and started Beau back under saddle after his hock injections. Ellie’s in stroppy teenager mode at the moment so I only did ten minutes under saddle with her and then got off before we got to the ‘I don’t want to move forwards’ stage.

Back at Morris tomorrow with Henry. Had originally planned to move him up to discovery and newcomers but after Friday I think he’ll probably just do another novice and then maybe the discovery if he’s not too tired.

Good luck to everyone out competing. :)

Boy did good again today. Not quite as supple and flowing as last week in the same test, but still pulled it out the bag to get 68% and 1st. Did feel a bit like a rosette hunter as it was an intro day for newbies, but I was using it to practice combined training as they also ran a baby clear round. Went really nicely in the sj, managed to work on the stuff we've been trying at home and it felt so much better. Soggy day though so v pleased to be home in the warm now!

My LO and I had a nice though slightly traumatic day at dressage......

Here are spooky Connie and I...

New venue for him but he did settle after a while in the warm up, and only one spook in test. More consistent outline too, and we got 63% with highlight being a 7.5 😲😲 for rider..

Son was on his new pony, 12.2 Welsh. First of all son threw a wobble in the warm up when anyone came within 10m of him, thank goodness only two other lovely ladies who really tried to give him a wide berth.

Then when we went through to do the test, just outside A he booted her for spooking at flower pot, and she kicked out/humped and he fell on his bum. Hence much squealing just as we were supposed to be going in.

Got him through the intro A test with a caller though he completely avoided going in any of the corners lol.

I think I'll take him back next week to kill a few demons....

Someone tell me getting kids used to new ponies gets easier......

I'd have loved 68 %

He's a little cracker. Even if we don't go as nicely as I know we can, we can still get very decent scores. I did feel a twinge of embarrassment though as I picked up my red rosette next to all the teeny tiny toddlers who also took part. One day we'll play with the grown ups!
