Weekend plans

Thanks DabDab... I think the bacon sandwich was the highlight to be honest. nice hacking, look at that lovely sunshine!

In my last showing attempt (taking baby horse out for experience), I arrived too late for the youngstock class so had to enter in hand coloureds/spotted/roan, which she is but it had been pouring it down with rain so the white flecks in her coat didn't show very well. So as we were walking around I got hauled in by the judge for them to inspect her roaness, and once they were satisfied and had let me back into the walk around I got heckled by some bloke in the gallery shouting that my horse was bay. So then my OH started heckling the heckler and declared loudly that "Actually, she's a knabstrupper x tb!"

It's a very good job I don't embarrass easy. Needless to say, we were not placed

Well done Wheels - I'm looking forward to your jumping reports with him :D also, I love the shape of the white on his head, it's quite distinctive

I suppose you can be forgiven this once Lev. Though next time a consolation picture will be required :p

Well weather permitted we are at Lincomb next Saturday so...... :) :)

We’re rolling!

Roped Pip in from the field as only had one on the ground helper but they were fab :)

  I do embarass pretty easily and may have died if that was me! I felt pretty embarassed that my great lump of a (rising 7 but doesn't know it) baby horse was in the class with only three others and they were all proper baby horses (like, yearlings) - felt like I was in the wrong class but it did say any height, any age so I wasn't.

Levrier - you are forgiven, but only just as I have had to endure washing The Beast in the cold with cold water (unless I boil a kettle) all week and my hands are sore... so I would actually kill for a hot wash! But yes don't blame you, cos washing in the cold is bad crack even with hot water!

Very well done Wheels, he looks lovely and going very sweetly in that picture.

Joys of riding school shows - I had the big beautiful mare again, I have ridden her for almost two months now and am in love. A fortnight ago, I was allowed to take her for her first competitive outing and we got a double clear in the 90. She's so big that she needs a fair size to get her up in the air!

So a lot to live up to today, and we froze and shivered our way round the warm up. She gets mentally tired a long while before her legs do, so we decided to jump the 95 as a step up from last time - we had half a lovely round, and were rudely ambushed by some brightly decorated planks. Now, apparently these eat young cart horses and we came to a very suspicious halt about 5 strides away with her eyes on stalks.

A quick look, quick circle and she catapulted herself into space over them, and then went round the rest like a pro including the double and the filler. Instructor made us jump the planks twice more on our way out, and she went over lovely.

I didn't stop grinning the rest of the day, she is just such a joy to ride!

Well done to everyone else who braved the cold.

Had our first lessons through the riding club today and thoroughly enjoyed jumping both boys - took Blue into the smaller group as I haven’t jumped him in ages and find him a little tricky, and then had Beau in the bigger group.

It’s looking like yesterday’s stop was down to a lack of fitness as Beau towed me round - he loved having company and squealed every time I asked for canter :D

Then, to top it all off, I heard that newbie Henry had won the novice at SNEC and come second in the disco. So extra carrots for him. :)

Couldn’t figure out how to get the video of Beau from the arena camera onto my phone so had to make do with videoing the video ;)

Looking forwards to having a day off tomorrow.

Sounds like everyone had busy weekends and managed to make it to their events and training?? :)

I have a “report” up of our weekend including the ODE in competitions and training. Had varied success but I have figured out how to upload pictures!

Oh no, DC! The whole point of having 2 is that you have a spare, they aren't supposed to go wrong at the same time :(

I know! It’s infuriating. I’m sure they colluded!

But, on a positive note, I had the most awesome schoolmaster lesson yesterday. I’ve been trying to get my confidence up jumping, particularly with the big cob. And, whilst he’s great, I waver. I am a self-confessed wimpy jumper. But yesterday I rode a gorgeous 18hh ex-international showjumper that is at the riding school where I stable. I’ll admit to having a spot of the green eyed monster watching the clients riding this horse. So yesterday was my turn.

He is very very different to the cobs, as you would expect. Very tall, pretty long and remarkably narrow. He’s a dream to ride though. And by the end of the lesson we were jumping an upright that was around 1m or maybe a little more. Massive for me! Peanuts for the SJ horse of course, but I was flying :D

Perhaps I need 3 horses... ;)

Hope everyone has had a good Saturday!

We went to our show. How do I put this politely? I don't think showing is going to be something I'm going to get into! But we went and had a go and the object of the exercise was to get her out for a longer trailer trip, and Do Something at the other end... rather than a solo hack, which is what we have been doing. Now feel much more confident to take her somewhere and Do Something that involves riding with other horses. She was a very good horse, other than whinnying the place down for about 20 minutes after arriving. She's never been in an indoor school before so that was something new and she even whinnied at her own reflection such was her desire to be massively over-friendly to the entire world. Then halfway through the class she got hold of the knot in the string holding my number on and pulled it off. Cue me giggling and trying to tie it back on with my gloves on (couldn't get them off) and Other People giving us "looks".

We came 3rd out of 4. Would have been 4th probably but one of the baby horses wouldn't trot. Also I forgot to put the hairnet I bought yesterday on. Got no comments from the judge so no idea what she thought, so whatever.

Horse settled and ate her haynet while me and hubby had a bacon butty and a coffee, what more can you ask for?

Here she is in all her yellow and fluffy glory.

She looks lovely (and obviously has a sense of humour!) I half wondered about doing a working hunter then remembered horse is a very hairy unclipped beast and we’d get laughed at.
Weekend didn’t go to plan, was booked into lesson with a Fancy Dressage Instructor but had to postpone :( Instead free jumped horse at hired arena, put up 3 low poles on a bounce stride, on left rein he went over it sedately. Turned around and went on the right rein - bounced over the first then hurdled the other 2 poles! He thoroughly enjoyed it, much better than flat work / carrying me around! I will try and get pics next time

Aw thanks - he loves his jumping, got a WH clinic in a couple of weeks to get some practise in over natural fences whilst the local XC is out of use then we'll do a few SJ classes and XC schooling once the ground is good enough. Looking forward to that

Pocholo and I had lots of fun at Tweseldown on Saturday! A few fences were frosty on the landing / takeoff (we were there at 10am) but plenty to jump. P was very up for it and popped everything I pointed at, including telling me to stop being a wuss about fences with ditches underneath! Here's a video, not sure if it'll work: https://www.facebook.com/annette.scottc/videos/10156052431624043/

Then I schooled Indio later in the day and he felt fab. I've been working on slowing the trot tempo and it's really paying off, he had some lovely cadence to his trot by the end and feels like a metronome. We did lots of on-and-back in all three paces, then a little play with some half-pass (and even a couple of sneaky changes). Great fun!

Sunday was a long day driving to Margate for a freezing walk on the beach and birthday lunch for my brother. It was great to catch-up with a load of people I'd not seen in nearly a decade though!

can't see your video jiffy but sounds like a good weekend :)

I used to be able to share vids from FB even if they were private, but maybe that loophole has been closed! Sounds like you had a good weekend too - do you think Summerhouse will be safe from the snow?

My YO and trainer just won the Novice Silver at Wellington! Amazing, she really didn't expect to, especially on her geriatric ginger! I'm so proud of the pair of them :)

Thank you! Apart from the number removal stunt she was very well behaved. think she was just telling me what she thought of this showing lark.

A fancy dressage instructor? Around here? Sorry you had to postpone but the free jumping sounds like fun anyway.

Strange cos I had no probs looking at the test riding clinic ones :( booo.
Fab results at Wellington :) Who can tell about Summerhouse... it's in the lap of the gods now. I know they will try and run if they can, but if we get a dump of snow I won't be able to get the lorry out to the main roads. Just keeping everything crossed at this point! TBH I'm more bothered about getting to my lesson tomorrow :p Stupid me, when will I learn not to enter regionals in Gloucestershire :D :D :D

Sounds like most people had a great weekend!

We had an awesome time at our event, dressage was a solid test for us with minimal tension for 35.2 penalties. We had a clear, if enthusiastic show jumping round and an even more enthusiastic cross country run to come 7th. We even got a pretty rosette! I was very proud with how Coolie handled everything, he is know to get quite err... STRONG at the first event out for the year.

He sure loved being out there though and knew his job very well. I was pretty excited to get to go through 2 water jumps and it was a really great confidence building weekend, especially as we haven't been out eventing since July last year.

Well done AE you must be excited for the season coming up :)

We made it through endless snow flurries to get to my lesson today :D I arrived finding the lane slightly skiddy as it was settling thick and fast... wondering whether I should turn round straight away and go home :D But fortunately the blue skies reappeared and it was all clearing by the time we were finished. Kira was fun as usual, feeling good in the tempis and the piris are less green so def worth the trip :)

Just catching up, some lovely pony pics & reports!

Jiffy, shame can't see the vid :( glad you had fun at Tweseldown, hope it wasn't as busy as when I was there! Galloping ponies everywhere :D

Little update from me, saddle fitting went well. Actually had some flocking removed as some had migrated and compacted a bit at the front of the panels, but nothing major. Nothing that would cause pressure points. Big granuloma lump has shrunk quite a bit, which is good. SO had a quick spin after saddler left, just a nice easy stretchy session. Vet still booked for Thurs, might as well have a look just in case.

A couple of days off getting muddy in the field. Today managed to squeeze in a lunge before work. Weather forecast is bad for this afternoon/tonight so thought I would try and beat the Beast from the East! Not sure what I'm going to do tomorrow, suspect my lesson might get cancelled :(

Had a riding club lesson yesterday.
Our first lesson was last week and it was half jumping and half dressage so I think the instructor thought I was more experienced than I am.
The jumps were put up at my limit. Which I was fine with, until ... horse refused. Then I had visions of coming over his head so got a couple more refusals due to nerves :eek3:

Instructor put the jump down for me so my confidence returned & I was able to continue. I've also had to hire horses recently as my own isn't well, which doesn't help.

I'm going to go to a showjumping comp on Sunday to make sure I'm OK again.I prefer dressage so I tend to do very little jumping. I thought I'd be able to wing it through the jumping phases in eventing this season :redface4:

Anyway it was a bit of a setback but at least I learned not to take things for granted :smile4: so onwards and upwards.
