Just found out that my 4yo Ellie was 4th so everyone placed today - still cant believe my dad and T beat me by almost 3 seconds

Unscheduled vet visit this afternoon courtesy of Diva. Appears to have had a mild spasmodic colic that set her breathing off. I arrived down to a very panting pony looking quite distressed. Straight on to vet who was with me within half an hour. Diva had settled by then thank goodness and heart and temp both normal. Breathing back within her normal range too. No abnormal windpipe sounds so thats a huge relief as a total collapse is always a concern. Guts very noisy so shes had a buscopan injection and an anti-inflammatory to settle things down a bit.

A fairly quiet weekend here, lesson this morning, rather hot, rode bitless in micklem, learning to rely less on a bit, jumped couple of cross poles (first time either of us have jumped bitless!). Normally he tends to tank at the jump, land and go on forehand and tank off again so trying to get him back to me quicker after jump. Was good as gold (think the hot weather had something to do with it!)
Ps fingers crossed diva is on the mend scats

Templebar we were at Eland today too. It's a great venue. Pretty good day - 33.5 dressage, silly 4 SJ and clear XC to finish on 37.5. Getting closer to those elusive placings!!! That was Max and tomorrow it's Amber's turn at Speetley. This is the last time I do 2 ODEs in one weekend unless I am riding 2 at the same event. 5/6 are in work at the moment but one of those is away at bootcamp with one of my trainers and another is in rehab for KS so lunging only at the moment.
The one that’s off should hopefully be starting back on Wednesday if the farrier appears to put his shoe back on.
Technically I have 3 and dad has 3 so no problems fitting them all in - I ride in the morning and work afternoons/evenings (based at home so no commute)
The only struggle is trying to fit shows in around everyone as I have one that doesn’t jump at all.

Day one of area done. 140 ish tests - only one sheet added wrong!
Walked 18+ km. Lost my phone , found it again. Rossies never turned up til 1pm ����. OH had to pick them up at post office 5 mins before they closed.
No tears, no moans . Sunny day. Hooray.

That sounds fab, well done to you. We had 34 dr 4 in the sj and clear xc. I was so pleased with the dressage but the arena was really low scoring so with that and 24 time over the xc we ended up bottom of the list. But fab venue, bit of a trek for us but decent roads so i'm sure we will go again. Well done and good luck tomorrow.
I'm debating going affiliated but it is so much money, cant decide if its worth it.

Some lovely posts to read, as well as a sad one from D_w. I'm really sorry to read about your loss. When it's sudden it's just much harder to digest. You have a lot of my thoughts right now, and I'm sure a lot of the people on this forum's thoughts too.
Got to extend a special well done to britestar, 140 sheets?! You deserve a medal!
All still boring over at this end. On the bright side I've got less than two weeks left in this pot before I'm non weight bearing in a leg brace. Then I'll be weight bearing in one. Then maybe, just maybe it'll eventually all come off and I'll be cured and be able to ride again!!
Till then, I'm relying massively on my mother, who is doing a great job and really building up a sweet little bond with Chilli. And on the plus side, at least I've pretty much bombproofed Chills when it comes to wheelchairs!

Had plans to just hack and school a bit this weekend as she'll be off for the next week as has 5 days off after her physio under sedation which is on Tuesday, wont happen now as we're apparently the world's best at getting out of work.
Went with a friend to the Pachesham AF yesterday so that was a nice trip out, and then did some dressage writing this morning at BCA. Guess I'll use my spare time this afternoon to tack clean, again...

Another fab scurry weekend taking in all the sights This time thanks to Ester. He ran well, no placings (as expected), camped well and took everything in his stride. I think I got a defective Welshie, he's a closet hairy cob!

Looks brilliant rara.
I forgot my test AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew the test inside out and back to front. I was reciting it in my sleep. But I can't think straight once I am in the arena. So that's 0/3 for test remembering at my first 3 BE events!!!! Unbelievable. So frustrating. But otherwise we had a great day!!! Clear SJ and a numpty rider error on XC for a run out. Well a run past really! One day I'll actually get round an event without silly mistakes. I have made course errors in 2 out of 3 phases in every single event so far. My riding isn;t the problem but my brain is......
Amber enjoyed herself anyway though

Well done AmberE, great photos. The more events you do the easier it will get. She really is a gorgeous horse. Chestnut mares are my thing.

I very nearly bottled my xc clinic. Got there, got on and noticed they where jumping a bit bigger than we had done. ( ive only jumped logs on Pip, so booked onto baby class). So, walked over to the instructor and said id give it a miss. ( First fence was 3 small logs on top of each other ) Fair play to the instructor ( first time we have met ) She calmed me down, and told me to just trot to it first time, so slid my fingers under my trusty neck strap, and we bloomin did it ! had an amazing time, we jumped everything, including steps & water. ( we had a problem last year with both). The penny seems to have dropped now, and shes taking everything in her stride. She even pulled me to the water. My daughter had the first lesson, and each pony stood on the box while the other went out of sight, a big improvement there too. Im still on a high !
Well done to everyone out and about.

Fab pics amber. My brain is also the issue, goes to mush in the dressage arena but am hoping that it will improve the more I do! Either that or I’m going to learn one test and only ever do that one haha.

Congratulations to Blood Magik, Amber's Echo, Rara, Asha and all the others. Sorry to hear about your boy D_w
As for us, my little Spanish boy did me proud once again this weekend. With his rider, they were the winners of all three days of competition in the FEI children's classes with fab scores. My husband also won the PSG class as well as the FEI World Dressage Challenge in our country Here he is with one of his students and the horse's proud groom:

Nothing for us sadly for at least two weeks. The EHV outbreak in France has resulted in cancellations of most competitions. Our talented Shagya mare jumped at le Mans two weeks ago but had to have a vet. certificate - it makes for expensive SJ. A real tragedy as she is jumping very well - sadly most of her 4 faults are down to rider error.

I've had a very inspiring weekend at the PK clinic. Riders and horses at various levels of training with some working on the all important basics and some working piaffe, passage, changes, half pass zig zags, canter pirouettes, Spanish walk etc with some in between working on the other lateral work.
The horses are a mixed bag with a few warmbloods but others included native x TB, luso x cob and a PRE in the mix too - so could to see the different types of horses doing some very good and correct work.
Some very interesting work and exercises for starting, improving and fixing issues with flying changes and with piaffe and passage as well as working with the basics of horses who resist the contact in a number of different situations. Every horse and rider improved every day and by the 4th lesson there were some serious improvements in way of going and in technique within exercises.
I have learnt a lot, hope I can put some of it into practise.
For milliepops - they were working on the zig zags again and I tried to write down one of the exercises for you! That sounds super interesting Wheels - how did you get tickets to go? Do you just buy them or do you have to be invited?
I'd also be forever thankful if you can remember any of the exercises for horses that are resisting the contact; particularly when a horse drops behind the hand.

I have used PKs methods to teach a horse to take the contact forward without then over flexing / dropping behind the bit.
It takes consistency of approach and you need to teach the horse to tighten the reins and to not be afraid of the contact, you want to be able to ride the horse with an open poll much of the time until they have learnt to take the contact forward with frequent changes of position to extend the neck forward, down and out with the horse really taking the contact. Once they have learnt this then you can add poll flexion in a normal head carriage position back to ask them to come to the vertical.
Do you know any in hand flexions and can you do in hand work? This is a good place to start, you can use contact from both reins but you can also physically manoeuvre the horses nose by gently pushing it forwards.
Ridden wise there are a few good exercises you can use but it's best to get a lesson from one of PKs UK instructors so they can explain things once they've seen you and the horse. Do you know whether you have any instructors local to you?
