Weekend plans :)

OMFG!!! I flipping went flipping wrong flipping AGAIN at Kelsall ODE on the XC.

But once again Amber had a goood clear!! She has no idea we have had a dismal season score-wise. She's probably feeling very pleased with herself. Well that's my first season done. I think I can sum it up as "Great horse, shame about the rider" :p:p. Full report and pics to follow. I'm actually chuffed to bits with my season over-all. I never thought I'd event. And I've done 6, learned loads and had a ball. Best of all the fences look quite small now!

What fences were you at Asha and Lexi?

I was at 17 - I gave you a good wooooo but I think the wind carried it away :D

You went round beautifully, minus the tiny detour! If it’s any help, several people did worse, including one woman who spent a good 5 mins trotting round the intermediate field without seeming to notice she’d gone wrong. There was a lot of shocking riding in the 80 sections today so it was lovely to see such a nice, bold, harmonious partnership as you and Amber.

I only did fence judging on the Friday, it was brilliant . I did fence 8 which on Friday was the ditch. It was a fabulous afternoon, and gave me a real insight into what goes on behind the scenes. It was lovely to hear all the fence judges comment on the people going round, all very supportive. The funniest bit was a call for help from one of the judges as the portaloo blew over. ' Can someone help please, the portaloo by our fence has blown over, I don't think anyone is in it'

I did see you today, but you where on your way back to the lorry, I just noticed your saddle cloth and realised that was you, but we where getting Aria ready so didn't have chance to shout hello. you where laughing !! seriously well done, I wish I had the bottle to have a go x

We had highs and lows today. My daughter did her best dressage test to date, Finn was lovely and soft and they got 33. Then they jumped amazing in the warm up. sadly he got stage fright in the ring and refused to jump so they got eliminated. So, shes going to go back to unaffiliated, and the get him doing a few more show jumping classes over winter. Then it was Arias turn, she did a lovely dressage test for 27.8, clear jumping, and clear xc, to come 9th. As it was the championship class, they gave prizes up to 10th, she only won me a new Airowear Body protector, proper chuffed with that . Its fair to say, weve had an amazing first season eventing, roll on next year !

I think that may have been a friend of ours, did she get over taken by another rider ,but was a bit oblivious and just carried on ?

I think the overtaken person was someone else.

The lady who got lost seemed lovely - she was still laughing about it on the way to our fence!

Ah that's a lovely thing to say. She is bold. I adore her! Glad the weather held off for you today. Fence judging in pouring rain is not fun!

Wow what a prize. Awesome!

Glad I was laughing not stressing. Actually I loved every second today despite another cricket score. This is how finishing XC feels.....

You definitely weren't the only one to go wrong. I was at fence 5 - was it you that jumped fence 6 then turned right instead of left to come back past us?

For such an innocuous looking fence we had our fair share of drama including falls and eliminations not to mention two loose black labradors that stopped the whole course for about 10 minutes!

Good day though. First time I've taken my daughter with us and she loved it!

You had just finished the xc (by the looks of it,so still on a high !). Your smiling face says it all. Well done. Your horse is a stunner too , love love love chestnuts .

Well done everyone out today in the rain x x

Fionn and I did our second ever event, had 2 down SJ where he went really green (we haven't been here before) and an awesome clear xc 😊😊

I was fine over 5 and 6. It was finding the ski-jump after the 13 I struggled with!

well done everyone :)

Our weekend continued in a good way. Saturday was OH's stag do so I had a quiet day with lots of pony time :D
Yesterday we had our second lesson with Simon Battram from Step Into Dressage, decided at the last min to have a ridden session this time to see if he could help us with her slow right canter. It's easy to collect, but hard to keep it quick in the collection so the canter piris are difficult that way. He had lots of helpful ideas and exercises and K tried her socks off to earn a mouthful of polos afterwards :D

Trying to set up a clinic at our yard so we can continue over the winter, if anyone Glos/Hereford/SE Wales way (or further if you don't mind travelling, easy access from M50) is interested then PM me as we may have spaces ;)

Really enjoyed our lesson with Simon as well. Even OH approved which is amazing as normally he says I’m just being told what I already know. Some really good exercises and help for me. I’m probably too far away Milliepops but when on proper computer will Message you n

Usually just lurk and read all the wonderful adventures of everybody else. But as several people competed and volunteered at Kelsall Hill this weekend I felt compelled to contribute! :)

We had quite an epic weekend there competing in the BE90 on Friday (Reilee) and the Novice on Sunday (Phoenix). Judges were not impressed with either dressage test but I was pleased with both horses for where they are now - slowly we are approaching in the (eventing dressage) arena what we do at home and in the warm-up and even at pure dressage comps (relaxation is much easier to maintain without XC going on in the background)!

SJ and XC were both lots of fun with both, with just 4 faults in the BE90 SJ with Reilee and a few time faults in the Novice XC with Phoenix. Delighted with both of them and they are delighted with themselves too. They are half sisters (same sire) and have many similarities as well as several differences, which is very interesting to discover and learn about.

Think all volunteers did a great job in the conditions this weekend - it was wild in slightly different ways on both days we were there. The ground was even better on Sunday than Friday - even in the SJ, which was really impressive.

It's been great getting back to eventing the past couple of years, starting over with young horses (yearling and 4yo) after I lost my previous two eventers that had brought on from yearling and foal - it was tough to get over their loss due to unrecoverable illnesses but these two have helped me and my husband do that and are great fun to be around.

Congratulations to everyone else on their weekend adventures, it's great to read about them all every week. Will try to contrubute a little more in future ;)!

Well done to everyone - groundwork clinics, dressage , eventing, fence judging!
The blown over porta-toilet story made me laugh - I would NOT like to have been inside.
On Saturday we had a XC lesson - I was in a bit of a panic incase mr H took off with me (have had issues through the season with him taking off when jumping on grass) in fact he behaved fine though felt a bit tense.
Yesterday I had entered an eventers derby. I hadn’t wanted to do the 75 cm class as that felt like I hadn’t made any progress so entered the 90 cm SJ and 80 cm XC. I was bricking it basically beforehand. We were riding with a NS running gag on 2 reins. He was much more controlled SJ we knocked one down but I was very pleased with him. XC we got a bit stuck at the jump - ditch - jump triple - I’ve not had him over anything like that before, the 3 elements are very close together, he jumped the first part and he cat leaped over the ditch and I lost my balance and we stopped at the 3rd element. We got over on 3rd attempt and did the rest of the course fine - I took it quite slow and trotted at some points - this was unthinkable before with our control issues.
I bought my little (15 hh) horse 2 years ago with the job of 1) regaining my shot confidence and 2) hoping we might do a be90. I wasn’t sure if he had the scope for a be90 - but I now think he can if the rider can!
Mr H now wants a holiday and a pay rise!
