Weekend plans

I caught it on a gate as I was riding through. I hadn’t quite opened it enough and got the bracket for the lever handle wedged in my knee ?

Blummin’ painful and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!

How did you do yours? Is it back to normal now?
Ouch! Mine was far less dramatic, I was kneeling and the exercise was clench one buttock then the other, clearly I have a very strong bum as the force was enough to travel down the thigh muscle and dislocate the knee cap tearing the supporting tendon. There was a sickening crunch followed by rather a lot of pain. I have a brilliant physio who treated me with a couple of machines (no idea what they were) but they speed up the healing process. He also gave me exercises to strengthen the tendons that support the knee cap. the most important thing is to keep the knee moving but not to put any lateral strain on it for 6 weeks it was quite painful for several weeks but it's now fine (except I did ACLs in both knees skiiing so the knees aren't great anyway!) Follow instructions and you'll be fine it's actually one of the easier injuries to the knee to fix properly.

Have a bareback lesson later. Reconnecting with my inner 12 year old.

Twins are off to London for the day. Birthday treat to see Dear Even Hansen in the West End. First solo trip to London for them so I'm a bit nervous which I know is very pathetic!!
You are brave, not on Amber though I guess? Sorry but over 40 years into motherhood I realise that you never stop worrying about your children and you will always be the first port of call when things go badly but also when things go well, which help to balance it out. They will, of course, be fine and buzzing with excitement!

Just on way back from dressage now! Had a brilliant time - I haven't competed in years, and the big horse behaved impeccably.
Really pleased with scores and feedback, they align with what I've been working on in my lessons. 64.81% in prelim and 65.21% in novice. Came away with a frilly in the novice for 4th, suspect there were only 4 in the comp but all the other horses I saw were really nice so I'm happy I was in good company!
Delighted!!

Overtime at work this weekend, but hoping I can hop on both for some riding fun. More rain forecast tomorrow though :) Super happy the weather has finally realised we need moisture more often than every few months! Also naughtily inquired about a little gelding I found on FB, he's got a super SJ WB sire out of an eventing appaloosa/QH and looks a fun sort for a winter project. Shall see what comes of it!

Happy weekend all :)

Strange how things can change so quickly!

A really good friend has offered me her SJ mare as her daughter no longer has time to ride her. At a good price, as in less than half her current market value. She wants her to go to me because she knows how I look after my horses, which I am chuffed and humbled about. The mare has a sire I absolutely love and one we can no longer source semen for in Australia (Caracas if anyone is interested). I have never ever considered looking at a horse like this and with her breeding, I could never have afforded one in the first place. I know the mare, have seen her ridden and looked after her when I was managing the livery yard for a few weeks. She's sweet and genuine, though still young and green in some aspects. Huge decision to be made, I am currently overthinking all the pros and cons (would never spontaneously buy a horse!). Eeeep!

I am a great believer that horses find us. This sounds like a wonderful opportunity. Good luck in whatever you decide.

God no, not Amber! I can barely stay on her WITH a saddle. I rode a sofa sized Comtois! And even managed to canter and jump. Woohoo.

The girls are back at Euston now getting a train in the next few minutes. They have had a lovely day out. X

Well, little lorry's problem is not terminal or that expensive but they need to get the right part so I am still home bound. Actually having a really sad time ATM as the people I care most for in my life are having real problems that I can't solve for them only offer help and support but it doesn't feel enough!. I think I now understand the saying "it never rains but it pours" So what do people like us do? Well we go out and challenge ourselves and it makes us feel more able to cope so I did and survived! I do honestly thing riders are a special breed of person, who else sits on a basically wild animal and attempts to control it with their bum! even writing this makes me smile, the several glasses of red wine probably help! Keep your weekend activities coming, if the little lorry is back in action next week I will shoot off for another overnighter at AM Dressage with my fave trainer!

Sorry things are so sad oldie48. Life can be tough at times. Xx
Thanks, I've just put the horses to bed and given Rose a cuddle, smelled her lovely coat and looked into her deep dark eyes. What amazing creatures they are, aren't we so lucky to have them in our lives? We never know what life is going to chuck at us but I honestly think they teach us to deal with some absolute crap over which we have little control.

I fell off today! From the mounting block ?. New yard has one that’s not so stable as the last one. No harm done, apart from a little surprised.

Finnegan was a poppet, shuffled his back end out the way as I plopped down under him then stood there waiting for me to sort myself out and get on. The jumping went fine, although sad to report that the pony club kick is back with a vengeance.

Well Kira and I went to the show, was weird driving in with her and feeling nervous - not sure what I was nervous about!! o_O

Anyway, we both need a bit of practice to get going again, we went into the warm up and I thought "er...now what?", kind of forgotten what to do and didn't really quite get her properly on my aids as I was being a bit tentative in case she had a strop. so we couldn't get the 4 tempis though she did some nice piris. Off to the test and i was pleased that she felt bold and happy - sometimes at that venue she gets upset by the speakers but she was well up for it. She just took over at the approach to the first piri and flipped a change in before it and then climbed out of the piri, and then the 4s had mistakes (predictable) plus I was ahead of my music so had to make it up a bit ! but other than that a good start back. Nice to feel her thinking forward and feeling up for the work especially as I felt like we were jumping straight back in the deep end. And I *love* riding to my music :p

Walked back to the lorry and it suddenly dawned on me that I don't really want to be doing PSG musics - she's aimed at music Area Festivals this year (CV permitting ) but I ought to be doing them at Inter1 really as will only do one level - we are both better at 2 tempis than 4s, and I prefer to ride full piris rather than halfs because riding too many halfs ends up with her taking over

So sort of kicking myself a bit because I should have thought ahead but never mind, somehow have to find some time to get a bit of long arena hire and try to cobble together a new floorplan. Anyway, she got some nice marks and even with the mistakes we finished on 65% which I would have been very pleased with a while ago.

Since we will have a little break in shows now I've decided it's time to start jumping again, have only jumped once since my fall last May over a couple of tiny fences and I need to get my mind and nerves under control.

Step 1 - today we start the polework, cavaletti on the medium height for trot and canter work.

St Patrick's day tuesday and all the parades are cancelled but we have a statutory leave day so off for a dressage lesson.

We had a great lesson on Friday arvo, really hard work but had some great results. Then on Saturday we had a lovely cross country session where we ticked off a bunch of boxes and Henry felt amazing.

Today Coolie and I went show jumping. We had three rounds, kept the heights low because he has barely been out in the last 18 months but he was awesome! We managed second place in our first round and 5th in our second round. He was amazing, felt great and like he hadn't missed a day!

All in all a very successful weekend for us here. And it even rained, yay!IMG_5604.jpg

Sounds amazing, looking forward to pics!

Fab pic accidental eventer, gorgeous horse - well jealous of your grass and leaves on trees although we do have a few coming through!!

Can someone please remind my pony that raised trot poles are for trotting and not bouncing? Anyway, that was good fun, we walked over the raised poles then trotted up to but then bounced them, let him canter them a few times and then made him trot. Certainly sharpened up his canter transitions. Will psyche myself up to jump something small by the end of the week :D

Flatwork lesson with Osi, she was so cute bless her. A lot going on around the arena which meant most of the lesson was spent trying to get her attention back in the classroom but she did lovely work on the bits where she was actually concentrating.
Our instructor is very pleased with how secure her rhythm has become.

We have our first dressage test next weekend and I think it’s going to go horribly wrong because the arena at the venue is quite busy but at least then the only way is up eh?

Another weekend, a new venue, and no surface tested! I came mighty close in the dressage of all things - slight tension in the canter and I have those stupid bent irons so I lost a pedal, and because they're the stupid bent legs I couldn't easily retrieve it, lost balance looking and finally kicked out of my other one to even it out for the trot transition and then retrieved both :p
Next up show jumps - indoors and a nice but challenging course. Supercob went super green and we just trotted it looking at literally everything as we went, 2 or 3 sticky hesitations but not enough for refusals although we did roll a pole and got 15 time faults!
The workers xc was fab though, one loss of canter and a wobble at a triple bar - hes never seen one before but he was 100% onboard with me - so much so I wanted to go again at the next height o_O
So we are going again in 2 weeks time for the next class up :D It's still small enough to school round the show jumps but they just need mileage.
I cant make photos work but here's one from drop box https://www.dropbox.com/s/dc9tmg7qzm3z19m/SLS_2422.jpg?dl=0

We've rounded off our weekend nicely with some impromptu xc schooling! We had delibated between that and local SJ, decided xc would be more fun.
OH on board this time, him and horse had an absolute ball. Some wobbly green moments, nothing major, I'm just delighted with this big horse!

Photo for the craic, OH did not expect him to jump so big ?

I'll comment on your facebook with it HP. We had 2 time faults for the xc/workers but we had a chunk of trot so I dont think we were miles off the pace really
