Another week zoomed by in a blur...

what's everyone got planned this weekend?

Another quiet one for us, then jumping into the dressage skool bubble Monday-Wednesday :) watching lessons, having lessons... lessons, lessons.... :p
We haven't done our passage homework since the last one as she's been too hormonal but we have got the one tempis back so I feel OK about that ;)

Hope the weather perks up and look forward to hearing what WPs have been up to

gratuitous topcob pic to kick off

Great pic! :)

I'm going out for a hack with my non-horsey (but can ride) OH this afternoon and I am soooo excited, despite the rubbish weather! It's with a different riding school than I usually go to so also considering whether to switch things up on that front but for now cancelled my lessons as my last two were mostly frustrating rather than enjoyable.

Hacking again tomorrow on share horse. Things really coming along on that side of things, feeling so much more confident than I was even just a few weeks ago. He can be a bit of a poobum on the ground sometimes (which I am also making progress with) but when it really counts he's a star (e.g. yappy dogs barking at us, giant lorry behind us, cyclists in general - zero effs given on his part!)

Supercob has a jump lesson with his owner on Saturday so I'm going to watch/video.
The lady gives out sashes for best combination on the session type things.
Well we had a session with her in like june maybe - before she was doing sashes, and my owner really liked her so shes been to a few of her clinics, and every time shes been trying super hard cos she wants a sash. Well I had a session the week before kelsall - shes not seen me since our early one. Was very complimentary about us and we "won" the sash which is nice and all but I'm not even a bit fussed for frillies and sashes I just want to be better. My owner however is, and is much more competitive than me anyway, so I feel like she'll either ride out of her skin for it,or take risks and end up with something going wrong, or possibly get anxious and ride badly. I am concerned at present ? but charlie takes it in his stride and adjusts to us both so I'm not worried about him.
Sunday, clipping I think, maybe a hack and travers practise, its improving but still not consistently recognisable.
Then I'm off next week. Got an andy Thomas session booked for tuesday again - hoping he'll find a difference as I've been doing my equipilates regularly for 5 or 6 weeks too now.
Wednesday we are at somerford for a xc lesson. And I've got exciting things planned for Thursday friday too but I'll save them for next weekend!

MP - I'm very envious of your dressage immersion!
SPD - enjoy the hack! It's good to switch things up, maybe some lessons on your share horse will be more fulfilling than the riding school?

We're out competing on Sunday, yay! It will be Danny's first time doing two tests, but he's been to the venue three times now and they're short arena so hopefully it won't be too much for him. I just hope we don't have a huge wait between classes as there's just one arena and the Novice tests have 10 each in them. It's a bit dull having to sit in the lorry and not watch!

What the...already?!

Have people who went recently, continued their Andy Thomas exercises? Need to crack on with those myself!

Quiet one for me, hacking out new ponio for the first time with a good nanny horse/friend.
Yes, mostly, it helps but not as much as him wiggling my leg did. I'm honestly wondering about some proper physio but I'm hoping for a result with the pilates

i find it hard to fit the clam one in, have to get into the lorry bed to do that, but I do my others every time before riding :) I was in a mad rush this morning so didn't do it properly and def noticed a difference. So I am kicking myself up the bum on that. i have a follow up booked on 5th Nov.

Probably it would be but work in the school is 'off menu' at the moment. I'm not 100% sure why - I don't think I have enough horse terminology/understanding of potential issues and haven't been present for discussions about it but I think it is to do with soundness/fitness in the school. I'd be quite happy pootling around doing things in walk but he's not mine so obviously have to respect what owner would like him doing. For now the hacking is doing me good and now that I'm not so nervous it's much more enjoyable :)

I shall be mostly quietly walking out on B as she is (hopefully! ) recovering from a strain.
On Sat a friend is going to pop in and reclip the 2 x mini shetlands bibs and bellies, I think B can have the same. I cancelled her chaser clip 2 weeks ago, but a bib will be fine for the next fortnight of mooching or field slobbing.
Good luck to those competing and have fun whatever you are doing.

Feeling quite upbeat as I hacked Rose out this morning and although bright and on her toes she was lovely to ride. She's in at night now and getting rather fit, the next hurdle is to ride her when she's been been clipped! My lovely sharer has moved her horse to a yard 20 mins away which has an absolutely fabulous indoor school that we can use for a small amount of cash. Rose is going for the second time tomorrow and she clearly prefers the surface to the one on my arena. Sharer is riding her Friday, Saturday and on Monday we are at AM dressage for a lesson (12.45 MP if you are around). I am really starting to enjoy watching S ride Rose, she's a much better rider than I am, rides Rose very sympathetically but firmly and I can see how much she is improving. I feel very lucky as it has really stopped me stressing about Rose whilst I wait on the NHS list!
I hope everyone has a great weekend with decent weather. Bernster I hope your new horse goes well and that everyone competing gets a good result!

w00t!

Got an SMS from Anna to tell me that there was one place left on an all-day ride she's organising to Saint-Germain en Laye and back, with a picnic there in the grounds of the big house at midday.

Not only that, but she knocked 37% off the price to fill the group up! She sent out the message at 08h45 and I saw it at about 13h00, but the place was still available, so I bagged it.

And the weather forecast is for fine through morning 9°C, occasional light showers and 13°C for the afternoon... for me, that is an ideal temperature for riding.

We're riding from a yard I've not visited before, so I expect to get a horse I don't know. I've ridden from four yards, so far; I think that .there must be at least another twelve livery yards and riding schools in my town).

Lesson on Saturday with Millie.
Going to have to have a bit re-think for hacking, as great as she goes in the bomber in the school, I’ve frankly had several hairy moments out hacking and have realised I have pretty much zero brakes. I fully discovered this last night when the horror did a gear shift during a canter across the fields and did that horrifying manic gallop when the world is a blur and when you touch their mouth you realise there’s nothing there. Eventually I got a bit of a reaction and managed to get her back under control. She was thoroughly pleased with herself and bounced back to the yard while I sat aboard her muttering under my breath that I’m far too old for all that malarkey! So I dug out the kimblewick when I got back and will be ruining her fun with that on Sunday.

Also sulking, though not because of lockdown but a broken nag. I will aim to beg / borrow / steal a ride for the weekend though.

Apart from that, home improvements with the husband which I will do grudgingly, with a glass of vino in hand.

I am so happy and excited about our afternoon I can barely type! OH and I went for a really great hack with a local riding school (different to the one I have my lessons at). It was just us and the instructor, who was great. The horses were very chilled and the routes/scenery were so beautiful. We had some nice bits of trot and OH reported feeling more competent by the end (it's been a while for him!). I felt great because I didn't really get any nerves as I often do with riding a new horse for the first time. Bring on the next one! :)

1st show for Malachy! He's entered in the Patrons Cup 60-70cm tomorrow, ridden by his fabulous trainer. He had a bath in her fancy heated horse shower yesterday and came out 20 shades less brown.. who knew his mane and tail were actually silver?!
Aim is for him to have a nice experience and hopefully get some confidence. We are prepared to be beaten by the little kids on their ponies going a million miles an hour LOL.

Err, can't just lob that comment in without giving more info!

hee. I snuck it in on the last weekend plans thread as she arrived on Sunday. I was going to do a proper post but I only have sideways photos for some unknown reason and haven’t really done anything of note with her whilst she’s settling in.

Found this little (actually mahoosive) treasure through the fabulous Aus’. 16.3 Oldenburg x ish coloured mare (cow pony!) 8 yo. On loan with option to buy. Very sweet, gangly as you like, but has floaty paces and sounds like she’s going to be fab. Am hoping she’ll be more keen on her jumping and competing than finnegan who is a total superstar but he def has his preferred activities!

Sideways pics again until I get more interesting ones...

Bernster, she look lovely!

Our weekend started today with 2 rounds of show jumping at Patrons Cup (missed you by a day KEK!). Henry was pinging around and won his first round, his first blue ribbon, his first rug and his first prize money! Thrilled doesn't cover it.

Second round was brilliant, but he just tapped the first fence with a slack hind leg which meant we were out of the placings. He learnt not to touch them after than and jumped the rest massive! Very proud of my little horse! He makes the jumps look teeny tiny!

Tomorrow we have our last dressage club rally of the season, it's been a huge benefit for us going.

Sunday will be hacking the bouncy orange horse around home. Have a good one all!
