Hilarious weekend so far. Two days of hacking. My friend on Bog had to peel off yesterday as we were doing a longer ride and he’s still a rehab, he was immaculate. Bear then pulled a shoe and rather than smash the foot up with another 2 hours riding we got a lift home. Emergency farrier later..

today- pulled the same damn shoe again! Luckily Bog with us to donate a hind hoof boot. So annoying he’s not pulled a shoe in 6 months.

I think that photo of Bear with the gate sums up just how great this 4yo is. Not to mention hacking down a main road without batting an eyelid at buses etc. He is having the best time with his hacking. And Bog, well what a joy to have him with us. It sucks we can’t be gallivanting around at a gallop but he keeps us thoroughly entertained even at a walk and trot and is just so happy to be out doing something.

Busy but good week!

Rooni went jumping Tues, loved it! Was such a good boy.

Saturday I quickly hacked Rooni. Then hacked Fig! First time in nearly a year he’s been off the yard for something other than the vets!

CAD3D321-2D2F-4E94-AF69-131D54633C24.jpeg

He enjoyed himself sooooo much <3

Then today, competing Rooni! He was HORRID for the Nov music. 95% cantering sideways. No halts. Trotted most of the walk. Just really quite dreadful.

He then warmed up like a devil with a bad head for the Ele music. But his test was much better even though we still didn’t really halt or walk!

Recovered well for 70.96% in the second.

Hopefully next time he will just CHILL!

It’s really helping her find her own feet, to one know she can jump big and two to get her wanting to jump the fences.

Brilliant day at Norton Disney to finish the season. Inconsistent dressage (scores from 4 to 7.5) but then fab double clear with just 0.8 time penalties. It was a full up course but Dolly made easy work of it. Dressage scoring was interesting today in the opposite section. The winner finished on a total of 6.3!! And no I have not missed a 2 off in front of that 6.

Winter of dressage needed now. Dolly is clearly perfectly capable of being regualrly DC within the time so we need to nail the dressage.

Absolutely fabulous day doing the Kelsall farm ride, and can't wait to go back - but hopefully when Blue's a bit fitter! By the end of it, she could barely manage a trot, bless her.

Day off tomorrow, hacking on Tuesday, then lesson with a new instructor on Wednesday.

(I swear, every photo of me riding this horse, I'm grinning like an idiot. She just makes me so happy!)

Funny day at Eland yesterday, nearly came off! Buzz was so difficult to ride, really powering between the fences then backing off once he got to them... it was a challenge at leas...luckily they were small so jumping from almost a standstill was fine. This meant that we completely lost power at the steps and walked up them :D with me saying to Buzz that he needed some more power as there was a bigger jump coming up ha!
We then got more into a rhythm until fence 17 which was propped up against the collecting ring fence, I have no idea what happened but I think Buzz might have been looking at his friend in the collecting ring and just fell over the jump, I was almost at the point of no return but stayed put, the next jump was at 90 degrees against the next fence line so kicked and carried on!
We then had an unfortunate stop at the last fence (the small corner with the carrot) as for some reason I completely stopped riding  and so Buzz stopped too. Represented and he was away. This messy round put us in 20th place out of 24 haha. Ah well, we all have bad days! My friend who i was with was flying round until she got to the water and her horse just stopped and wouldn't move, did a tiny step back so got faults - neither of us had a great day but we had so much fun laughing at our misfortunes. Entered into the next one to hopefully redeem ourselves!

ahhh some great weekends :D
Decidedly *meh* here. Having a little pity party as Darcy retires from his second career before it's really got going  bit of a theme for him, i feel.
Did have a little play on TopCob which was more fun than I expected after her micro holiday.. Where do I find another one like her?

That's a great result, since halting and walking are required movements ?

He looks super smart, when not on his hind legs ?

Rotten news about poor Darcy MP. Topcob looks fab, theres a lot to be said for good bone and a leg at each corner in terms of longevity imo, but that comes with it's own issues

I didn't realise Darcy was out of action/not continuing as a dressage pony. What awful luck. You must be so upset.

Your topcob is such a special girl.

I saw the girl's post on FB. 6.3 dressage is insane! I've never seen a sheet with so many 10s. I looked at the results and the same judge gave one rider a 53. So she wasn't afraid to use the full range of scores!

Dolly looks fab. That's a decent fence. Hope the winter of dressage goes well!

Oh, no, I didn't know Darcy was having to retire. I'm so sorry - you do have rotten luck.

Really sorry to hear that MP, that’s sad news.

Had a busy horse day on Friday and got lots done. I do love a good potter about.

Sadly it all went a bit awry on Sunday as had an unpleasant experience at the yard which has really upset me. I hate that the yard environment can have such a big impact on how you feel, to the point where I had a bad night’s sleep, and feel blue today, but am trying to be positive and am sure that it will all turn out for the best...

Oh no :(
i think it's so hard with horses because it's a hobby that takes so much of your (one's) emotional energy, it's no wonder that bad experiences hit you hard.

MP that's not good news. Does Darcy now become a field ornament? I'm in the same boat as you with £0 to spend on horses. B2 goes back to a family member this week as he was a freebie with issues hat we haven't been able to fix (yet) we're going to park him until one of us has a lightbulb moment (or not). It's just cheaper for family member to keep him 'parked' than it is for me. I'm now on the look out for another low priced/freebie to bring on and have fun with. B1 needs a field buddy too.

Bernster - we invest so much into our horses (not just financially) that when something happens around them it really hits us hard. HHO has been brilliant support/crutch for me over the last few weeks. If you need to vent we are all ears and support (well mostly, but the negative Nancy's get jumped on pretty quickly).

I did very little this weekend apart from spending time with my boys quietly. Sometimes you just need to take a step back and look at things and appreciate what you have. So, that was my weekend - appreciating the little things.

oh no MP, sorry to hear about Darcy. But at least you have topcob, and topfoal to keep you excited.
Bernster try not to let it get you down, easier said then done i know. it can be a rollercoaster sometimes.

Had another lesson from the lady who taught me at camp. She is just fab, learnt loads again, and with her help weve really sharpened up our canter transitions. She said i had to think that we where rearing into the canter, which really has helped. She even suggested i go to a show shes going to so she can help me out in the warm up. So ive done as suggested and booked 2 tests for saturday. Its great to have someone who really wants to go the extra mile.
Somerford was great as always, but couldnt help pop into the shop and came away with a new coat. Husband seems to think ive loads of coats, but that simply isnt true:D

We'd had a challenging week with a lot of building work going on at the yard with enough machinery and noise to challenge even the most bombproof of horses. Amber handled it but definitely several sessions were out of her comfort zone so not ideal. Thankfully Saturday was quiet and we managed a nice calm session and played over some poles and then we went for a wander round the yard, up the drive and our first walk around the outdoor school. Sundays lesson was really good the hour flew by, it was only when it was over that instructor and I realised we'd done the whole thing in walk. Not a problem and really good happy chilled pony so again putting some much needed credit back in the confidence bank. She has today off, hoping for a quiet yard Tuesday , if its not I'll just skip it as its not productive. We have a busy weekend ahead so it doesn't matter if she has a quieter week in advance .

another sodding neuro horse
as he'd still been improving I had put my concerns to one side but was just noticing a few more weird things when he was on his own time and thought i had better bite the bullet. So to speak. Chief companion at the moment, might have to review that if we have no turnout in the winter

Oh no, I'm so sorry to read this. At least it explains some of the behaviours perhaps? There are a few loan horses around at the moment, would it be worth putting a 'wanted' ad out there and see if you could find an easier horse to play with alongside Kira for a couple of years until Hera is ready to back? It's working well for me at the moment with Danny!

I'm booking a lesson for next weekend at AMD - OH and I were supposed to be visiting his family in Lancashire but that's out the window due to COVID so I figured I'd try and do something productive.

yes am just considering it... (and yes, explains everything weird about him, it's what I was expecting vet to say tbh)
loan possibly easier to do than looking for a selling-on project. though I did say after the last loan horse "never again" but if everyone knows it's temporary for a few years then it could work.

it's what happens when you have £0 to spend on horses! you, um, don't pay your money, you takes your chances

That's me too - also eating cup cakes at the pity party of freebie horses. The microcob's breathing issue looks to be physical and has been escalated up to a specialist surgeon. I'm pretty down about it all to be honest with 3 field ornaments now she's no longer in the 'I'm sure its pollen' camp - even if surgery is an option the £££ is going to have to come into play.

Was very sad to see your news on Darcy on FB. He's such a sweet horse and you'd got so far with him. I do think when you've had a run of 'not quite right' your gut tends to shout quite loudly and sadly tends to be right. Been my experience in 2020 anyway...... (if ever there was a year I'd like to forget its this one)

aint that the truth. When vet arrived I said what I thought was up, and that I'd be delighted to be told I was imagining things (as a few people have done) and he said, well.. you haven't been wrong before... and there you go. sorry to hear about microcob. what utter pants :( *shares gin*
