What is everyone up to?

another big nothing here so hoping lots of people are out and about to report back on the world ;)

Had a lesson yesterday, we're just doing short sessions weekly rather than a full one fortnightly at the moment, to get back into the swing of things.
Kira has hacking club with YO tomorrow which she will hate
Then back to homework in the school. Same old, same old. Must do some things with the 3yo, I have lots of fun foal wrangling but he's the next project really :p i think Hera leads better than him at the moment, oops.

Forecast looks decent, here at least... have fun all.

Saturday morning I'm taking Arts to a sj clinic ?

Other than that, not a lot. Will probably attempt to cross The Road with Pebbles to do some forest hacking

Weather-wise I'll just be happy for no snow. Sadly this is my representative picture for this week:

The next few days will be light work in the school and/or hacking. A bit chilly, but weather isn't terrible.

Then driving back to the vet clinic on Sunday to drop off my horse for his tooth removal on Monday. He should come home Tuesday or Wednesday if all goes well. The face alien ended up being a tooth root abscess. Doesn't seem to be causing much pain (although he's on meds). Especially since lunging him yesterday was like flying a kite...but it did randomly start snowing and blowing.

I'm interested to see how horse feels about loading up again, since on Tuesday we drove 2 hours to the clinic for him to be drugged, clipped, examined, x-rayed, and scanned. Then 2 hours back home. He's a good loader and traveler but I imagine he won't be so thrilled about it all :p

I haven't even renewed my horses competition registration, my trainer said don't bother until we actually have comps in the area...who knows when that will happen/be allowed. If I'm lucky we will ship out for a lesson in a few weeks.

Will also do some more hair removal scrubbing of the girls
My neglectful grooming approach meant that I basically peeled Darcy's winter coat out in one go a few days ago. After eating hair at the oldie's paddock last weekend, I am wondering if I can do the same with them, maybe give it another week :p
The others have had the good grace to de-fuzz themselves.

No lesson for me this weekend sadly :( I have had to spend money on far more boring things this week so fun stuff has to wait. Hacking instead - hopefully long rides with both horses and possibly a 15 minute flatwork session at home for Alw. :) Hoping to bring back leg yielding and even try a little tiny shoulder-in or quarters-in. Not sure how that will go!! If not we will work on square corners, perfect (ha!) halts and connected transitions. Plenty of options for a quarter of an hour (after a warm up)!! :)

And now my steel toe caps have arrived more legs to trim ? after the second time he got me this Sunday (with proper boots) I've been on strike for trimming, I don't think my poor toe could take anymore.

I am off eventing on Sunday with the grey horse doing another 100 and have upgraded my brakes as she was not rocking back on a half halt last week. Managed clear round last night with the 6yo as realised she has never done a proper Sjing round and is off eventing the week after. Luckily she was great so the plan carries on rather than emergency hole/experience filling. All my jumps are out on grass now which is great after having had no arena for so long. I just need to get some dressage letters to help.

Toby and Dolly having a massage today. Vet for Toby tomorrow making it 4 appointments in 10 days for him (Tom Beech, dentist, massage, vet). So he's a bit high maintenance at the moment but fingers crossed all is well and I can stop worrying and just crack on with the work Tom recommended.

Then eventing at Eland Lodge for Katie and Dolly in the OU18 BE90 class. Their first 90. Eek.

Getting back into things for me. I now have transport so am mobile again.
Having our first jumping session since Nov this evening (I paused during lockdown). Then a lesson on Saturday to get my bearings in a long arena and practice the tests I’m doing in my first ‘proper’ BD outing the following weekend (we did Quest last year but I’ve never done full affiliated BD before)
Then Ive booked in for a jumping clinic (baby jumps) on Tuesday.

I went xc schooling this morning for the 1st time since last summer. B popped all I asked, but I missed a fair few out due to ground conditions at some as v hard in places.
Hacking tomorrow, sj lesson 1st thing Saturday morning then Equicross comp on Sunday, our 1st comp since September. Have only entered the 60 so we can pootle round and hopefully enjoy it.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, competing or whatever else you are doing x

After a bit of a delay to our plans to get going - with lorry sprouting a water leak and horse's fat legs incident, I'm hoping that this weekend we actually finally manage to get going!

I should be picking up the lorry first thing tomorrow morning, then loading up Simon for a Lucinda Green clinic near Somerford at lunchtime.

Saturday both of the boys have dressage lessons at home....

And then Sunday, Simon is entered up for the 105 and the Newcomers at Church Farm!

If we make it to all of that, I'll be thrilled after the dodgy start to April.

We had a lesson yesterday and have another one on Saturday morning. I really feel like we are getting back into the swing of it and Maddie is noticeably more relaxed each time we go out. I have also discovered all the little things that have slipped due to having no one on the ground watching us for over three months - my head tilt in particular, and my apparent desire to want to look at my pretty pony most of the time!! On Saturday afternoon we have some friends coming over for a socially distanced barbecue - I am so glad the forecast is looking a little warmer than last weekend's weather. Then next Wednesday we have a clinic with Andy Thomas - I am really looking forward to that.

I can't believe that on Monday I will have had Maddie for 6 months - it seems to have dragged and gone quickly at the same time, I guess because at least 4 months of that we have been in lockdown at home, which meant a lot of time together battling the weather, but no trips out so I don't feel we have achieved very much. We did get our Top Barn 12 week challenge rosettes in the post a couple of days ago, so here are Cam and Maddie proudly posing.....

She has such a lovely head and a kind eye, it's no surprise you want to admire her while you're riding :D. An old instructor used to tape a piece of paper onto the bridle headpiece that said 'UP!' - it reminds you to look up when you spot it. I can't say it's fixed my looking down problem though!

M had her flu booster yesterday so we'll be keeping it quiet and low key, probably just some ambling round the block and the woods. My trailer is desperate for a service and a good clean but I'll have to take the truck to the yard to get it out from where it is and I don't know if I can face that ?.

IM SO EXCITED I can actually participate in one of these threads!

we are showing this weekend, I'm determined to not be bothered about placing, I know we certainly won't but we are there to practise for more important (to me) shows later in the year. I'm so excited/nervous.

she was such a good egg for me last night, love this pony. her first outing in about 2 years, mine in about 12!

Edited as I figured out how to attach a pic! got some scrubbing and plaiting to do but I love her so dearly

Eland has published photos of the course. I have to admit to feeling very irritated with them. Most venues who run more than 1 event, start more easily and increase the difficulty as they go along as horses get fitter, stronger and more confident through the season. Plus no-one has been able to do anything XC wise for months so this year of all years should (imho) have been at least the same as last year, if not a little kinder. The ditch hedge has the full 20cm of brush on it so the 90 fence is 110. And worse still they have the broken bridge in it.Which is a very steep drop - must be at the max drop allowed of 130cm - which is a big ask of ponies at this stage in the season without much leg conditioning. I have always refused to do the unaff 90s at Eland because I don't want to break my horse. This is the first time the broken bridge has been in the BE 90 event. So they have chosen this year of all years to build the hardest BE90 course I've ever seen them put on. :(:(:(

Bricking it for Katie and Dolly now and giving serious consideration to withdrawing them. But it's a qualifier. Arghh. If she's going to do it I can't communicate any doubt to her. She needs to fired up and confident. But I just dont know what to do for the best. Someone reassure me I'm over-reacting!!

BD tomorrow! Cannot wait, after the first one got cancelled. A couple of novices tomorrow as an AF warm up really, then a lesson on Sunday so hopefully we should be on track to not make total plebs of ourselves at Solihull.

The weather looks surprisingly nice so I might chance a walk with some friends on Saturday. Good luck all those who are out and about!

Schooled in the sun today. I feel like since I've taken the pressure off due to the face alien, our rides have been better. I just set out to do a little riding and see how he feels and go from there. Felt great today!

AE I don’t know much about BE but it is odd that some venues seem to want to go for the boldest bravest they can do, and some go for having an encouraging inviting course. i had heard of another venue, whose name escapes me, that always did it’s most challenging course as their first event of the season which seems counter intuitive to me.

Dolly seems like a pony that knows which way is up, i think you've mentioned that they've been schooling well. I would continue as planned. It's a palisade with a drop, isn't it? i wouldn't have thought it that unusual in general? i get that sometimes we get the willies about things (big steps up were my thing :p) but a sensible combination not hammering round like lunatics should be OK?

Actually it's this one - the drop on the right of the 2 options. Doesn't look quite so bad..... But it used to only be in the 100.

Its bloody horrible!!! But I have calmed down and it rides better than it looks.

It's one of those that really rides very well - just a rider frightener, nothing to bother a horse - and at least you can't run out past it - just ride up the ramp and keep your leg on until you're over! Pretty unusual at 90, but I don't think its unfair. Event stats will tell at the end of the day!
