Yeah, options are so limited. I’ve only used the vaccine so far and it may have slowed the growth down but they really don’t know if it works that well. I saw an article from the RVC, who are my vet practice, and then had a chat with my vet, and then the surgeon who developed it. I’m so pleased he’s a candidate! It’s early days so they don’t have a huge amount of data but some cases have seen a significant improvement ?

I’m not very good at posting threads but I plan to do a report in the vet section of HHO as it might be interesting for others.

Thank you, that sounds really interesting. Will raise it with my vet as my boy has grouped lesions which aren’t suitable for laser surgery. Hope all goes well for yours!
 
FFS you can’t make this up. Bog did a lovely test and was top 10 after dressage which given he was against pros and flashy horses I was so chuffed with.

Had a slightly awkward jump over an oxer in the warm up which was carnage and off putting hence the bad riding from me and therefore jump..and somehow I got my finger caught in the reins and I am fairly sure I’ve broken it. It hurts more than when I broke my ankle! Went into SJ but basically couldn’t properly hold the reins, rode like crap and had two poles by fence 6 because of it. Realising I would never be able to go XC I put my hand up to retire.

It’s so sad it’s funny ??? the angle of my finger however.. ?
 
@Michen I'm gutted for you. You so deserve to have a good round.
We had a decent day - not fab on paper, 2 down showjumping and time xc meant we were well down the placings. We were getting used to having frillies to collect in our 80s!
However apart from the time he was clear xc and it was a decent course, longer than the last unaffiliated, 4 min 50 time and included a ditch, 2 good brush fences, and in Charlie's opinion entirely too many hills ?
 
I had a productive session with my lovely 4yo this morning. He’s gone bum high again ? but is feeling much stronger than he did before he impaled himself on a fence a few weeks ago.

We’ve got another two weeks before we’re allowed to introduce canter so have been trying to mix it up with a bit of baby lateral work and some trot poles to keep things interesting.

Im definitely missing riding my advanced horse though ? so I decided to get in touch with the agent I bought the 4yo through last year and she has two lovely geldings that sound like they might be suitable. And even better, they’re both in budget so ?? one of them works out.
 
Been a while since I participated! Had a busy few months. This included a quick trip (7 days) to Europe and back which culminated in covid, three days in bed and seven days at home on my return. Horses had a nice holiday! We must have been transplanted your English weather as it just won't stop raining :( The world is one big mud hole. More rain to come next week...

Anyway, back in the swing of things this weekend with a dressage clinic with an instructor I really enjoy being taught by. L the Haflinger is becoming more and more supple and our laterals are coming along well along with half pass and a few other playful things. B the 4 year old is on a slightly more extended break after colliding with a gate at a canter. No lasting damage, apart from her pride and new label of "dumb blood" :rolleyes:... I had hopped on her the other week (pre-gate) and she's ready for some schooling and outings once her nose is less bruised.

I am also riding an ISHxTB (she's definitely a proper stamp of one) for someone with the view to start eventing her. She's got a bit of an unreasonable Irish brain at the moment but is improving every ride and should turn into a useful and versatile horse in time. A bit more work to do before our first outing but for the moment we dodge the rainstorms.

Congrats RL that sounds like a very decent day indeed!!! :)

And thanks, I can’t deny I’m sad it’s ended with this but I did take him around a pairs hunter trial today with Bear and one hand. How many horses can you do that with!

At the end of the day, the ONLY thing that truly matters is that Boggle is safe and sound. I’ll hold on to the many amazing eventing memories we’ve had over the years and this season. I am very lucky!
 
Dressage. Came 3rd out of about 20 odd riders in P12. Blimey. Then 10th in P18 but scores were pretty close within that middle bunch.

Arrived a bit late so it was all too rushed which didn’t help either of our stress levels. Bertie felt tense to warm up and kept whickering to passing horses. But then actually did a nice enough test. Felt more relaxed for the 2nd test but we scored a fraction lower. In both my accuracy was shot, which is such a rookie mistake. Need to do more arena hire to ride in the correct sized arena (ours is short and wide, a bit like me!).

It meant we’ve had a look around the venue, which is pretty busy, so that’s good. And we’ve had another successful outing getting used to warm up etc. I still can’t remember my tests as my brain gets too full so I really hope this upcoming BRC qualifier that I’ve entered allows callers!

They also had indoor sj on which I liked the look of so shock horror we might actually venture out to do some teeny tiny jumping. Little kids storming around whopping great fences! Although sadly bury farm doesn’t seem to have any small unaff sj events coming up ?
 
Well, my weekend did not go as planned- I missed my dressage lesson on Nova (blame a late night and bad planning!) so I ended up taking the racehorse to a jump lesson in the afternoon instead where he went a fraction lame so we only warmed up and Nova subbed in for him in the dressage today.
Nova is only 11 weeks post joint flush surgery therefore he lacks work and match practice- he was a bit bright and distracted so the quality of his work didn’t shine through as I would have hoped, and he got 64%. He is very cute though!

We did our first 90! Jumping clear XC to boot, this little horse just loves his job ❤️

Wouldn’t be a eventing without some drama. Apparently these reins have absolutely no grip when they get sweaty. Did not help me trying to steer/brake on a keen horse! Any glove/rein suggestions welcome, especially if they can arrive before next weekend ?

I had a very slight drama too at the hunter trial champs, heading up to my/Buzz's least favourite jump (brush and ditch) had a plan from when I walked it to ride a specific line and striding but a little way out I went to shorten my reins and dropped one of them :D had to scramble it together and just put my leg on! He popped over it very nicely though with no drama :) we got a clear so very very pleased with him. No where near any placings as he's just not fast enough and enjoys spooking at random jumps on the course but we had fun and that's the most important bit.
 
We had a great time at Blenheim on Friday. Chilli was Mr Perfect - brave, happy to go front or back or upsides, very polite in trots and canters (we even managed cantering on each leg on command for the photographer!), simply the ideal fun ride mount.

17yo 'nanny' Pocholo, however, was a complete tit towards the end and his loaner had to get off an walk for half a mile ?. Clearly he wanted us to know that he's still got it!

Chilli had the rest of the weekend off, and today too as I'm heading to an event at Nicky Henderson's yard this evening :D

Other than that, my OH enjoyed a couple of short rides on Indio, who was a very good boy for him. OH has now discovered muscles he didn't know he had ?
 
Second weekend of celebrating my birthday with lots of food and fun things and seeing new places (and pubs!).

Had a very productive jump lesson Sunday AM - super pleased with my position and he’s relying on me less to micro manage now too.

A slightly sombre moment of spreading Figs ashes too, it was his 18th birthday on the Sunday. I miss him terribly but in my head he’s creating havoc with Star, Goof, Bruce, Mum and all the cats and dogs. Such is the price you pay of having ever loved anything I guess.

Did you end up going? I did and it was fab, especially as they have now combined the Autumn show with the International Horse Trials. I haven't yet been to one of the big events so was a little star struck to see WFP tacking up/mounting literally 2.5 feet away. Walked around the cross country to watch his round too and it was as beautifully executed as you would expect! I had a great time playing 'guess how much the lorry is worth' with OH :p

No I didn't - how was it? I wasn't sure how busy it would combining the Autumn show with the horse trials?

It was really good, and really not super busy but we went on the saturday when it was supposed to be raining so that might have helped, the sunday may have been busier. It was slightly less busy than the summer show.
The event itself was great, they had all the dressage and warmup rings as you walked in, then they had the showjumping in the big ring in front of the members bit. The cross country was out of the South Gate where you would usually come in and it was all very well marshalled and set up. They then had the normal autumn show bit on the other side of all of this with stalls, food, plants, gardening, the hound shows and archery etc.
 
I'm really feeling my age with this jumping lark. Ludo keeps looking at 2ft rolltops saying "are we jumping that today? " and I keep saying "let's wait for a day I feel more confident". I've bought shorter leathers, he's game, OK he overjumps when he gets it wrong like all babies, but really .... someone give me a kick up the arse, will you?
