Sounds like a nice weekend racebuddy, I hope the allergic reaction is sorted.

Vet this afternoon for Chilli :(, fingers crossed it's something minor but I'm mentally preparing for a long stint off work. The vet's also going to x-ray Indio's fetlocks to check up on his arthritic changes, it will be helpful to see so his new sharer and I can plan around it.

Other than that, I'm going to be eyes-on-the-ground for Indio's sharer tomorrow, curry with friends on Saturday night, a few dog walks and lots of cuddles for Chilli!

We're off to a hunt/ hedge clinic tomorrow for a hooley around.
And then arena hire with a BS course on Sunday to practice more canter with longer reins, bleugh! I know it is working and better for jumping bigger fences but it is going to take some time to become habit!

We also have shoes going on next week, ready for stud holes and eventing, woo hoo!

Hope everyone has a good one, whether you are at home or out and about x

Can’t ‘like’ that post chilli, I’m sorry about that.

Looks like it will finally be a decent weekend for riding, with a useable arena and non icy roads. Hurrah. However, I’ve stupidly offered to go house related shopping on Sunday which I think I’ll regret but we need to do it soon /yawn. So it’ll be hacking Saturday and maybe a bit of field work if the ground is ok. Instructor did some field work yesterday and Bertie was a bit fresh apparently. He’s not done as much given the holidays and weather so it’s to be expected but I’m glad she did the first session, even if it wasn’t planned that way (arena was too hard still).

Lorry is also off getting a door bolt fixed but hoping to get out next weekend to sj at bury farm which looks nice, unless it’s at stupid o’clock (which my teeny classes tend to be) in which case I might rethink that! It reminds me of Patchetts (same course builder) which was my fav sj venue so am hoping that will be a fun outing.

Baby cob hasn't had much work recently due to the weather so I led him out in hand on Wednesday and he was an absolute hooligan. I had my bobble hat on and about halfway round I really wished I'd put my crash hat on - there were legs waving in the air. So I got on him today with low expectations (& my body protector) and he was a delight. The field surface isn't great but we did sensible walk, trot and a few trotting poles without a single boingy moment. So hacking tomorrow for him (although I think we need teeth looking at again - not happy in his mouth)

Microcob starts to struggle at this time of the year with all her aches and pains so we went for a quiet mooch through the woods. Then one of the sheep stood up on its hind legs next to the bridleway fence and that was the end of the quiet mooch. She thinks sheep are the work of the devil anyway let alone vertical ones. Slightly faster ride home than anticipated.

I am prefacing this post with: I don’t jump. And I don’t like riding in front of people.
So obviously, the logical thing to do is sign up for the 80cm grid work clinic. Horse knows his job and we’ve tested that point, kick and shut eyes works and he tolerates the slightly unusual approach but what was I thinking?! Will report back if I’m still in one piece.

Keeping everything crossed re: vet visit!

Will look forward to this report :D

I'm going to get on my pony ... For the first time since she arrived ? hopefully go for a wee hack in company and see how she behaves

This one too. How exciting!

I was in the school today practicing from lesson last week. We are now mostly pointing in the right direction for our circles and moving a bit more forward. He did spook a little and buck, and I questioned whether I should just go back to RS and plodding forever but then I had a word with myself and carried on with our circles.

Tomorrow is hacking with OH on foot again. Sunday off to watch some unaff. dressage.

Chilli was fine in a straight line, flexions ok, horrific on a circle on the hard and fine lunging on soft.

X-rays showed some sidebone on both fronts (worse on the right) and some black marks on the navicular on the right fore. I’m getting him booked in for an MRI to see what’s actually causing the lameness. The vet would be happy for me to ride on a surface but I’ll wait for the MRI.

Indio, on the other hand, was better than ever! Vet said there’s no point x-raying, just keep an eye and look again when he’s in full work.

We had a great jumping lesson yesterday, working on a few different exercises. Three cavaletti bounces on a curve, a grid and then two single fences. Henry was great, and feels so much stronger so found it reasonably easy to do everything. The left is still easier than the right but a big improvement.

Everything we did was about improving his form over the jumps and he certainly made some good shapes. Very pleased with how he’s going at the moment. It’s been good to scale back and focus on training over the summer.

Today is a horse free day, out for lunch for my mums birthday. Went running to pre work off lunch ?

Tomorrow is hacking day. Need to take both boys out really. We will see how montiaved I am

Fabulous clinic today, horse and support courtesy of Firs & Feathers Equestrian and lesson from Lisa Chilvers.
I rode like an absolute plonker for the first half, so blooming nervous and was just being a passenger. Needless to say poor horse was very good as I forgot to breathe, dropped the reins, lost my stirrups and was a general numpty.
Remembered about using legs/seat/reins in the second half and had some quite acceptable moments.
Did have a small blooper when turn left didn’t feel possible (wrong canter lead) so we did a lap via the adjoining lunge ring before turning. Suspect she’s probably not had students do that before ?
Really interesting gymnastics exercises and we finished with a little course, a mix of tiddler jumps and a couple of mahoosive ones (cough, 80cm) I did get told that even though I shouldn’t be swearing, at least when I did say oh sh*t, I didn’t interfere or back off, I kept momentum and let the horse do his job which she seemed happy with.
Good horsey for sure :)
Photos possibly to follow, I’m not sure there were many/if they’ll be any good.

Sounds like you did a great job, well done for getting out there and doing it given you were apprehensive beforehand. Maybe swearing is the secret ingredient. Voice is an aid too, right?! :D

I posted elsewhere about my hack today. Objectively nothing went wrong, horse was well behaved, I just fell apart on the way home. Got off and walked home feeling ridiculous.

We had great fun on our hedge hopping clinic... however got home and he was very dramatically not weight bearing on a front leg, so currently on a lovely big bed, had a bute and hopeful it's just a foot bruise or something.
He is known for being dramatic so fingers crossed! ? Definitely no SJ tomorrow though.

thankyou. Not sure it was the right kind of voice aid but never mind. There’s a great video clip of me coming round to a fence and going oooh, that’s a bit bigger. It’s about 60cm ?

Sorry about your hack.
If it’s any consolation, I had a real confidence wobble in the run up to Christmas - had a couple of rides where I couldn’t get out of walk. Sometimes you just have to work within your comfort zone, it sounds like he’s still quite new to you and hacking can be scarier than the school so be proud of what you achieved in taking him out :)

Tentatively posting some video stills. Horse isn’t mine, he usually does a lot bigger with his owner but was a real gem and looked after me. I know there’s a lot to improve on, today was the first time since college that I’ve done technical jumping and only about the 4th time in a year that I’ve jumped so it was very much about confidence so please be kind.

Fingers crossed the MRI doesn’t show anything unhelpful. Great news about Indio though :)

Had a fantastic lesson yesterday with Poppy (no pics sadly). Lots of work with me putting weight on outside stirrup on bends to stop her rolling through them instead of bending. She did her first competition last wednesday with my freelance rider- first time travelling in the dark, first time under floodlights, first full course. She was a superstar, just touched the first part of the double, and I couldn’t have been more proud of her. After my great lesson, I’ve put on my brave pants and am going to take her out myself this wednesday!

I’ve been doing a bit of this over the past few days…

4406AA55-9445-4A7E-B0FE-D5EF2206B305.jpeg

First time I’ve been on him since June - and even that was basically nothing, it was during those in between phases while we were trying to suss out what was wrong.
Just 15 mins in walk atm, on concrete, but he has been very good.

I am struggling a bit with my confidence in the ground since I got kicked, though. I know what the specific trigger was but ultimately there are always a combination of factors so I need to kinda wise up and get it into my head that I cannot control everything in the environment, especially on a livery yard. Need to get a handle on it before the horse notices ?

We hacked out yesterday - kids on their own together for the first time which they enjoyed. Two happy small people on two very safe ponies. Noticed that my son’s pony has filled out a bit and takes up his leg better (girth has gone up a hole though which is fascinating!) which is good. He’s turning 6 this year so had hoped he would grow/fill out a little as son does so they don’t have to part company too soon.

Schooling today - my mare is finally pinging much better over jumps and feeling much fitter. Son’s pony is now completely reliable outline-wise in walk and trot, no head wobbles or weakness moments any more. Canter is still a work in progress.

Bitted newest project (v feral and has taken an age to let us do things round his head) and then as a result could take him for his first walk off the yard. Happy little chap who behaved much better than I thought he would!
