So this weekend dressage was put to one side, and we headed off to Solihull for the BRC area qualifier..... well.... I fell off!! In the warm up before we'd even started!! Yet strangely I'm still smiling!!

But I got back on and carried on....

He'd lost his confidence so refused the first fence as it was an oxer like the practise jump i'd fell at. so talked him round, made a fuss, had one pole down and a lot of time faults, but we finished.

Then said to my mum (despite being 29 my mum is my side kick everywhere we go) if he stopped in the 2nd round I'd retire, it was our biggest course to date, 3ft, and well I needn't worry he flew, clear and inside the time!! The ladies on the gate said we were one of very few that had done it!!

So despite the fall a lot of positives came out of it!!

In fact I believe my smile is still today outshining my bruises!!

Here's our video from the 2nd round, I'm the first to admit this rider needs some serious WD40 as I'm rusty, but we are enjoying ourselves and it is getting better!! https://youtu.be/cXFryb10_NM I won't deafen you by putting my 1st round up, there was a lot of chatting and encourage between me and my lad

Considering I've only been back jumping since October last year, we are having a ball!!

Roll on our ODE this Saturday!! Let's hope I can get him near the XC warm up this time!!

Well done :) I have seen a lot worse riding than that so give yourself a big pat on the back! He looks very clever at sorting himself out too :)

What a fabulous way to finish, you seemed to get better and better as the day went on, well done :). Super good luck for your ODE!

Thank you!

Considering I've only fallen off once before since our accident which resulted in both of us having surgery (in my case twice), and this one was our worse *touch wood*, I'm really pleased that I kicked my butt and made myself do the 2nd round.

I've said to people in a strange way I'm glad I've done it now (fallen off) as I gave up jumping just over 15yrs ago due to a fall, and this is my first fall jumping since then but I got back on, in fact when the steward asked if I needed the paramedic I told them I didn't have time lol. And the fact he just stood there was a bonus too, as the day of the accident he bolted, the fall in the indoor school he panicked and bolted, took a few minutes to calm him down and get near him. So all in all, in a very strange way I believe a lot of good has come from it.

Oh, fab - that's a nice steady round and you look like a good partnership. Glad it was a confidence building session despite the slightly unexpected start! I know what you mean, sometimes you build up falls into such a big thing it becomes a limiting factor, then if you have a 'good' fall it can help to put them into context.

Well done for dusting yourself off and getting a clear around your biggest course to date! That's a big achievement :)

Thanks all.

Now just crossing everything that he's ok for Saturday, as I lunged him over oxers last night to boost his confidence, and just as we were finishing he got silly and managed to pull away from me, jumped several fences on his own and overreached. Washed it and bandaged it last night, he was walking and trotting alright this morning, so will take the bandage off and check it tonight. No flappy skin or chunks missing so trying to stay positive!

great report, well done :) Finally managed to watch your video (problem my end not yours) and it looked super.

Keeping fingers crossed for Saturday, hopefully he continues to be quite happy and comfortable, sounds like no major harm done :)

Well done for getting back on and doing such a lovely round, you look like a great partnership. Hope he's not injured too badly and you can still get out this weekend x

Hope you make it saturday. Slight shame you are out this weekend as I was planning to come over. Lots we can work on but for now I want you to stop focusing on the jumps and ride the canter. I've seen you two do dressage :) so ride a good working canter all the way round the course as if you were doing a test and don't try to place him at fences. He can sort that out if you give him the caner he needs to do the job when he gets to the fence.
Have fun. Will try and get over next week.

Thank you :D It's my biggest problem wanting to set him up, that and not going with him (rusty rider!). Really exciting to have a lesson with you!! I'm free all next week and next weekend, and the week after.
