So a fairly busy but fun-filled weekend!

Started with a clear round event at a local venue, arrived an hour and half after it had started thinking they will be on to the higher jumps by now (started at 65cm). Nope had only just started the 75cm and as I didn't fancy jumping in the dark, I whizzed Topaz round for a clear in the SJ but one down in the WH (not sure she either respected the height or wooden coloured poles :o). However she enjoyed herself :D!

Then Saturday we went to the beach! Awesome fun playing in the sea :).

Onto Sunday and I snook Skylla off for her ridden showing debut! I didn't tell her as every time I plan anything she decides to injure herself :o. Now with her capped hocks and being a fairly green four year old we were not expecting anything but just going to gauge her reaction. Arrived at our local riding club, tacked up and took her for a walk and trot round in-hand before getting on, she was very excited but polite, got on and felt her back go up :eek3: :o, so my lovely friend led us round until she relaxed (lead rein pony at 15.2hh anyone ;), but someone on the ground gives her confidence). Into trot and all going well so asked for canter and she may have been a little too enthusiastic about it :o, so back to trot gave her another lap of trot before asking again and this time we got no 'airs above the ground'.

Into the class, Novice Show Horse, and although we've tried to do work at home with others in the arena I thought this was quite a big ask for her, we were on grass, with 3 other horses and with loads to look at outside of the ring. However she was just a star, only two blips, spooked and refused to go in the muddy bit (don't blame her really and I wasn't asking her to go through it, but she just thought she'd make her feelings on mud known , not sure she will make an eventer :o), and bucked into the first canter in the go around. However we survived, I'd not eaten dirt yet and apart from being a bit onward bound she seemed to really be enjoying herself :D.

Now the biggest test, the line-up and then the individual show. She stood perfectly in the line-up despite horrific flies, she was so grown up 'a wub my pony loads moment', we watched the others do their shows and then it was our turn. Second obstacle would she nap and refuse to leave the line-up, no she was awesome  walked straight out and stood stock still again for the judge :D! Then show time, walk away, trot back, round the short side and change the rein, didn't ask for any lengthening as I wasn't fancying pushing my luck, avoid asking for canter near the mud, into right canter which felt wild but looked better than it felt :o, change rein and back into canter, down the long side back into trot, walk and then halt! Yes we were a bit inconsistent in the contact, but with so much to stare at I will forgive her , we managed the correct canter lead every time which meant we moved up a placed and ended up third :D!

Pretty pony (though honestly that is the colour of her tail it IS clean! Think I may have to dye it :o)

What Skylla thinks of third :D

So left it there for the day as she was so good :), a bit more trimming up, actually get the correct gear and I need to learn how to ride in a show saddle again (terrible chair seat going on for me there :o), but I think we might do some more showing as I think it's a fab education for a young horse!

Thanks for reading :).

Yay! Clever Skylla :D sound like a great outing. Also v jealous of your beach ride, trying to find a way to do this but it will have to be with Kira-stumpy-legs ... not sure quite how that will go down!

Ah lovely, well done. Sounds like a v good first outing. She looks super.

Thank you, we did have a couple of hairy moments but I stayed on at least :D.

She's a clever sausage! Well Doodle is only 14.3hh and we didn't loose her ;), though the pony that came with us didn't come in as deep! Topaz loves the sea she likes splashing everyone .

Well done. Great show from Skylla. Breagha is great at a show but when it comes to her individual she sometimes refuses to do anything and will nap towards the gate......currently working on that one lol.

It was a bit wobbly but we got through it! I really couldn't believe she didn't nap, I was mega impressed!

Wow what a lovely weekend, Skylla will be all grown up before you know it!

Had a great time, I know she'll not be baby pony for much longer :(.

I can't watch the vids as I'm at work, but the photos and report are great! The beach looks like a lot of fun, and well done Skylla :)

Indio's tail used to be the same colour as Skylla's! I've been trying to be disciplined and wash it weekly (usually ends up being fortnightly) with purple Fairy, silver shampoo and a conditioner. It was almost white for the Regionals! He does have brown hair through it, which makes it a bit trickier. Keep persevering and I'm sure Skylla's will get less yellow with time!

We had a great weekend!

Skylla's tail has lots of browny coloured hairs at the ends so I'm trying to be patient and let it grow out as the new growth is lovely and silvery, it has been washed and washed and washed and because it is actually that colour I cannot wash it out :o. Might try a silver shampoo/ highlighter shampoo on the ends and see what happens, or if all else fails bleach and vanish?

I jest I promise :o:lol:

I have been known to use soda crystals on Indio's ;) Only on the non-bony part of course! Ketchup also lifted a lot of the yellow... The silver shampoos and conditioners definitely help - I picked up some cheap stuff at our local discount shop!

Well I can give it all a go :D.

Bicarb soda and fairy liquid, left on for a good while! then a purple shampoo left on for a while too.

(I have known a hairdresser friend to 'bleach bath' the ends of her horses tail - which is basically hair bleach in with shampoo. Very mild and it worked!)

I really like her Alex she is very cute! Well done!

Ooo might try the 'bleach bath' but will get a close up of her tail for you to see if I can make it white or I have to wait for the ends to grow out! We have our next show Saturday so her tail may be being bathed every day this week :o.

Gosh, nearly passed out at the thought of showing. Isn't that even more impossible than dressage? Don't you have to clean your horse and look normal and stuff?

 You have to be clean, plaited, correct tack (which is only determined by some weird traditional rules which have never been written down and change from judge to judge and what the 'in' producers are currently using), and your horse has to be expected to show itself off whilst not flinching at the brass band/ bouncy castle/ fair-ground/ carriage horse/ loose donkey/ shire horse with bells on that may or may not be placed directly behind your ring or show up unannounced just as you're asking for an extension ;).

Thankfully I knew this show would be pretty quiet, but showing is a fab way of educating them to the sights and sounds of the world, I think if they can cope with showing they can cope with pretty much anything!

Great report, Syklla is coming on so well! My new horse Nemo's tail is like that, so annoying!

Thanks, it's made me chuckle this week as I've been seeing reports of other four year olds being placed at the RI, they are a world away from my wobbly baby , my excuse is that she is a very late foal and only just four :o!

OMG tailgate is on-going as I may have accidentally dyed it blue last night :o:eek:, however it looks less blue this morning and the bleach is coming out tonight as the brown bits are still brown, I think it might just be the colour of her tail :o...
