I'm glad you have a wealth of knowledge PS. Try using it once in a while - you come across as a complete ignoramus.....

[/ QUOTE ]

Are we resorting to name calling now?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope. I haven't called anyone any names.

[/ QUOTE ]

Phew, cos for a moment there I thought you call me an ignoramus...

Chance lost quite a bit of weight recently after he was turned out 24/7 for the summer. We got the vet out and she thought it was worms, he also had a low blood cell count.

That was 3 weeks ago nearly and he is now putting the weight back on. On the advise of the vet we double dosed him with eqvalan duo. We kept him in for just over a week as the horses in the field next door hadn't been wormed (we didn't know at the time) and kept breaking through the fence.

He has been on 2 feeds per day consisting of: 2 scoops of alfalfa a oil chaff, 2 scoops allen and page calm & condition, 2 - 3 scoops of speedi beet, 30 mls of red cell, 1 cup of vegetable oil, 2 scoops of garlic and 2 scoops of limestone powder

If it were my horse, I'd try to return its feed to a little more than it received before it started losing condition. So, if you can, feed the hay/haylage ration in the field (but check that your horse is calm and relaxed out, not stress walking all day).
Make sure that the horse is rugged well - as horses use a lot of their fuel to heat themselves.
If s/he doesn't start to regain weight, then look at increasing the nutrient value of the concentrate ration, as TGM has suggested.

PS I've had horses on full livery in Scotland, and been YM to full liveries - and it includes EVERYTHING bar exercise (includes checking horse at least once per day, picking out feet, and most certainly ensuring horse maintains condition).

No sounding about it - I'm a prize one when I want to be. And happy to admit to it.

However, I rarely venture an actual opinion on something I clearly don't know about.

Anyway - let's not hijack.

Yes Shilasdair - thanks for the advice. Rugging is something I have always been on top of - particularly with my girl. She doesn't mind being out in the rain/wind as long as she is well protected. I think you and TGM are spot on. I haven't been too harsh with the YOs - but they are aware of my concerns. I will give it a week or so.

. All I can say is you have noticed there seems to be a problem and are endevouring (sp?) to sort out a solution, that, to me is not negligence.

TGM's suggestion on page one and Shils suggestions above sounds about right in your case and would probably be what I would be doing if I were in your shoes.

I have read this thread with increasing disbelief. PS you seem determined to pick a fight for some reason.

Berkley, I have used Top Spec Conditioning Flakes with great success, on a horse that had nearly starved to death.
The weight gain was amazing.

Would love to know more about Outshine though, in comparison to the Top Spec...

What do you think - should I block PS? She's not adding value, just insulting people who are.

Yeah I would

and I'm sure JM gave some really good advice there but sadly I have her on UI so I can't comment

QR you could also try a pro biotic such as Naf pink powder or Equine Gold to help her utilise her food better. My TB mare dropped a lot of weight in the space of about 2 week and this really helped her.

You've created quite a stir by the way

If you don't like somebody's posts, feel free to put them on UI. I personally don't feel the need to tell the world who I am or aren't putting on UI, but horses for courses.

If you have nothing constructive to say, or are otherwise an arrogant ignorant fool, please refrain from posting. It saves the rest of us from having to reach for that little UI button. However, the joys of an unmoderated forum such as this one include the little details such as the comeback "No, shan't, cuz I've got a RIGHT to post."

Please feel free to copy & paste the above comeback if you can't be bothered to make up your own.

The way in which you construct sentences is appalling. Your spelling and grammar is what I would expect from someone who’s second language is English. Has anyone ever highlighted this issue to you before?

OP what a reaction......... FWIW I have used both Baileys No1 and Build Up to do the job you require, both are excellent and havent heated the horse at all.

I have looked at Outshine in the past and Im sure it is excellent but at 30 odd quid a bag perhaps a tad expensive. Id give number 1 a try if I were you in the 1st instance.

The one thing I find really weird on here (and I suppose on livery yards too) its the people that know the least are generally the people who shout the loudest

I have only responded to other people's response to me, if people just stopped calling me harsh, insulting, ignorant etc I would get bored of this thread and go do other thing. By other things I mean work, given that it's a Friday afternoon I prefer this thread
