Weight of a Shetland

My new loan Shetland arrived at the weekend and she is absolutely adorable and I am desperate to buy her from her owner already! Anyway she is just a little bit overweight :/ so she is going on a diet and little walks. When I used the weigh tape she came up quite heavy (I am too scared to say on here how much) but how much would you expect a 33inch shetland to weigh approximately?

I had my 40" standard shetland weighed on a weigh bridge and she is 234kg she is about spot on condition wise, not to thin or fat

I wouldn't rely on the weigh tape as accurate, few are. They're just a handy way to measure gain/loss not starting weight. Iirc shetties are usually around the 200 - 250 mark. Upper limit for a max height one bulked out with solid muscle, possibly under 200 for a small, slim one.

My friends Shetland who is slightly smaller than mine weighs 130 kilos!!

My 32" stallion comes up as 250 on the weigh tape. He isn't too porky though, he could perhaps lose a couple of kg, but is hardly so fat he can't move! Here he is, I can feel ribs (if i prod hard!), but can't see them.

ETA: As others have said, weigh tapes aren't a good indication of weight, but do let you see if weight is lost or gained

My mini looks chubby but he was 110-15kg last time I checked on my weight tape he should be 9.2hh for that weight but he is 8.2hh so using the tape worries me

Whoops, just realised I said Aski was 250 - that is lbs, not kg's! He is 115 kg's

On my weigh tape 115 kg is 11hh! I just use them as an indicator for weight gained or lost.

Oh I am glad, I think it must be the same it was a while back, they worry me he does have 8cm of squidgey fluff though ha I measured it so he looks tubby now with his winter coat. You can stick your hand on his bum and poof! Like magic your hand vanishes ha in palomino fluff

My 33 - 34" shetlands usually weigh around 175kg. If they were over 200kg I'd consider them fat.

Tiny Fuzzy is 33" currently approx 180kg, tho weigh tape makes her 230 (it lies! )

The fuzzyness makes her look far more err.....hmm....'broad & round' than she actually is at this time of the year.

Still wearing a muzzle......

Mine is extremely fuzzy which is adding to her fatness but she has the biggest neck I have ever seen!!
