My new loan Shetland arrived at the weekend and she is absolutely adorable and I am desperate to buy her from her owner already! Anyway she is just a little bit overweight :/ so she is going on a diet and little walks. When I used the weigh tape she came up quite heavy (I am too scared to say on here how much) but how much would you expect a 33inch shetland to weigh approximately?

I wouldn't rely on the weigh tape as accurate, few are. They're just a handy way to measure gain/loss not starting weight. Iirc shetties are usually around the 200 - 250 mark. Upper limit for a max height one bulked out with solid muscle, possibly under 200 for a small, slim one.

My 32" stallion comes up as 250 on the weigh tape. He isn't too porky though, he could perhaps lose a couple of kg, but is hardly so fat he can't move! Here he is, I can feel ribs (if i prod hard!), but can't see them.

ETA: As others have said, weigh tapes aren't a good indication of weight, but do let you see if weight is lost or gained :)

My mini looks chubby but he was 110-15kg last time I checked on my weight tape he should be 9.2hh for that weight but he is 8.2hh so using the tape worries me

Oh I am glad, I think it must be the same it was a while back, they worry me he does have 8cm of squidgey fluff though ha I measured it :-) so he looks tubby now with his winter coat. You can stick your hand on his bum and poof! Like magic your hand vanishes ha in palomino fluff
