Weird habits - Whats your horses odd quirk??

One of mine loves to hug the wheelbarrow with her front leg, she always puts her leg over the handle, never tips it over or she likes to back up to things and gently rubs her hind leg on them before resting it there, like the ramp if we are at a ride or the farriers tool box

M does this too but with his back legs. We call it his wheelbarrow fetish. He backs up to it so one of the handles is between his back legs and just rests his leg against the edge of the barrow. If he can't get it in the right place to get it between his legs he'll gently nudge it into the optimum position. He's never knocked it over.

My NF mare, now sadly gone, used to put her head deep into the water when she drank, almost to her eyes. I read that this is a sign of braveness, she certainly was a very brave (and attitudinal) pony.

Sisters destrcto-cob eats cables! We have a rather super solar power lighting system in our stables, so far she has eaten three cables, which I didn't think she could possibly get to! She has also removed the meshing between her an her friends stable and her latest "game" is emptying her water bucket, about thirty seconds before she goes out in the morning, by tipping it over :D The Appy merely chucks things in her water bucket (rugs, hoof picks and in fact anything which is left on the shelf!) She also rather enjoys creeping up, silently, behind you and giving you a fright when she blows down your neck :D She was a right pain with not picking up her front feet, which we got over with clicker training, now she almost "Indian horse" dances to try an get treats out of you when you go in the stable.

I seem to have a weirdo at the moment who likes to...

Smack his lips on the walk back from the field at dinner time.

Licks metal after eating mints, then licks you, then you taste of mint and so the cycle repeats.

Lifts a hind leg and cocks it like a dog so you can scratch his inner thighs😳

Yup. Dave just likes to sit on his arse.

I have a money box of a horse sitting down and it just could be Dave in fact I think it is him!

My old ISH loved Trebor extra strong mints and would go into a blissfull state whilst appearing to suckle on an imaginary teat. My son called it peppermint induced sedation.

I remember an old vet telling me he used to get the owner to shovel in extra strong mints when he was castrating a colt to take its mind off the undercarriage action Lots of men have stopped eating extra strong mints after I've told them that story...

The horses started coming in overnight at the weekend and I'd forgotten about this one until it happened. Some nights, A can drink as much as 2 1/2 buckets of water so he always has 3 available. Most nights, however he will only drink one bucketful. Every single time, he'll drain one bucket completely and leave the others untouched. If he does drink more, he'll drain the one bucket first, then start on the next and won't touch the third until the other two are empty. At the beginning of the winter he'll pick a bucket and he'll always empty that one first, no matter in which order the buckets are. It's not one favourite bucket as he's gone through about 15 in the 13 years I've had him but he'll pick one at the start of every winter and stick with it.

Our pony always poo's immediately when he gets on the trailer. Its so reliable that as soon as the rear breach bar is up, we stand on the ramp with the poo-picking scoop so he can poo straight into it.

He is good at loading and a great traveller, so I assume its not a nervous poo, just lightening the load a little!

Not sure it counts as its a trick we've taught her but now you can climb on any object stand up and click your fingers and she'll walk over and park up nicely at it for you to mount :) I call it hailing a pony taxi and its awesome.
Neither of us are 100% at the moment so on Saturday went for a 10 min mooch and got a bit stuck , so off I hopped lead round the stuck corner, then climbed up the muck heap wall next to big scary oil tank, clicked my fingers and she parked up sweetly so I could hop back on and we mooched back home :)

Pooing up the wall he can’t ‘go’ unless he’s backed up with his tail pushed into the wall or a fence in the field... meaning he has the shittiest tail ever

Highland - Always rolls after eating hard feed, makes a face between flehmen and yawning before taking the bit (if not quick enough to hold bridle up she will take hold of the leather

New Forest - lifts hind leg up so can scratch between hind legs, finishes food and lifts rubber bucket up as she observes her surroundings
