i found a thing on my horse today that looked something like a ladybird lavrae but lighter in colour. it was buried into the fur head down and had a flat bum, it was very easy to spot and quite big.

now ive been trying to work out what it is - can anyone help? didnt take a picture of it as was so horrified to find it on my horse that i squashed it imediatley! i did notice that on saturday she was a bit irritated by something but didnt think much about it until i found this thing today on her.

i looked thro the hair at the base of her tail and could see no eggs or other creatures in there so thinking that the one i squashed was on its own.

never have i had any problem with things like this before. now i was wondering it could be because of the warm weather or could it have been caught from the farrier and their dealings with other horses (she was shod friday and i found this thing this morning and she was irrated by something on saturday). what do you think?

nice cuppa and a couple of biscuits if uve got to the end!

They are the same, not horse or dog ticks but normally from deer or rabbits, before they attach they run around quite freely, they look flat in the body when they have not had a good feed of blood.
