Anyone else brought the horses in and is sitting this out? Weather is awful here. I got them all in yesterday teatime and am waiting for a dry interval to turn them all back out. They have been out 24/7 apart from the odd night here and there, but they are all content to be munching on their haylage in their nice dry stables right now. I don't think they'd thank me for chucking them out in this. What are others doing? Are you and the horses out? Are you riding in this weather?
 
Yep - horses out last night with MW rugs with neck on (never done that before in May!)

Brought in this morning; one ridden at 5.50am; other had flatwork lesson at 7.00am; farrier at 9 who will have turned them back out as I'm at work (for a rest ;))

Only rain and a bit of hail here down south though. Heard driving back from work last night that roads are closed in Scotland due to snow and a flurry of snow was felt at Goodwood yesterday.

Better than tornadoes though eh?
 
Well it's been really nice here all week, just cold. But the weather generally around the country is more November like than May like. Last weekend I was in shorts - today I'm in tights and a jumper!

P.s - what happened to the weanling??

He's still here. :) My sister decided not to take him though she was very tempted. I am hoping his owner may be able to keep him after all. Things are starting to look a little brighter for her right now. If the worst came to the worst, he will go a few miles down the road to live in a herd of youngsters and older horses that belong to a friend.
 
I'm not riding much when the ground's really soggy as we don't actually have a sand school but am lunging in between. Tbh, I brought my girls in a couple of weeks ago when it rained hard & they were quite happy to munch hay when I left them.. But nearly fell over themselves to get back out the next morning! They hate being stuck in, so I only give them a "respite" if it's been raining for a few days, or the field is getting wrecked. They have rugs on & don't really seem that bothered.. I'm glad they don't want to come in though; they spend long enough cooped up all through winter :p

The weather is just appalling here. Driving rain, hail and wind. Has been like this since lunchtime yesterday. It was so cold that the hailstones we had teatime yesterday, didn't melt for almost two hours. :(

That's my worry. The winter is long enough without them having to come in when it's nearly June!
 
More windy than wet here but sooo cold! All out at night, back in m/w turnouts, in by day as grass v green. Had to lunge the young mare this morning as mini is competing in a 2DE on a friend's pony this weekend and mare won't get any work...was dreading it but she was so good! Currently debating whether to keep them in tonight to avoid catching in at 5am to plait...but then there's 4 boxes to muck out on return.....Decisions!!! :(
 
My gelding is out. He's not bothered by the rain or cold and always seems happiest when out - no matter the weather. It's only a bit of rain and there's shelter in the field.

The only time he's kept in is when all his field-mates stay in. He's ok on his own for a little while, but gets stressed after an hour or two.
 
Bright and sunny, although fairly windy here in Somerset:D a few heavy showers yesterday and it was cold but the horses were happy enough so usual routine for them.
 
Mine are now out 24/7, no rugs unless really bad weather. At the moment it is very windy but no rain although we are forecast some light showers. Its been pretty dry here for the last few weeks (rock hard ground), just cold! Going to bring them back down to the winter paddock for a few days over the weekend as it has plenty of natural shelter and the grass has come through.
 
Both out, they were on the yard yesterday and went out this morning like they had been on 6 months box rest! Hail yest eve, strong winds now and am keeping an eye on the weather. If it becomes biblical then they'll come in as they have very little shelter in their fatty paddocks. May isn't feeling very May like, fortunately I have not yet cast my clout so am doing ok lol!
 
Wagtail, mine are so fed up of being stabled through winter that as soon as the days get brighter, warmer, longer, etc. they start misbehaving slightly.. Like dragging us down the field in a morning, prancing around when fetched in, fresh to ride/lunge.. So unless it's really bad weather & they do seem unhappy, or the field is getting wrecked, they stay out. They're much happier out so I try not to feel too guilty ;)
 
Not too bad at the mo here in West Berks but forecast rain this afternoon. They'll stay out as have a huge grassy field with lots of natural shelter but Middle weights have been dug back out of the rug pile! Crazy - it's nearly June!
 
Yes weather is terrible and cold but I certainly would never keep them in because of it. Both of mine just have a rainsheet on and are far happier and healthier out.
 
Just windy here, not raining, so ours are out. I tried putting them out 24/7 a few weeks ago, but ended up bringing them in again at night as it went horrendous again. The only field with any decent tree coverage for shelter is boggy again. The summer field is ok but very exposed. I am trying to persuade hubby that what we spend on hay and having them in all summer would pay for a big field shelter...
 
freezing & windy here, literally freezing, we have frost forecast tonight, hail & snow showers last few days.
Ponies in summer coats with m/w rugs on shivering. Its winter weather but they don't have their winter woollies anymore :(
Grass is slowly coming but being in a GS hotspot we still put hay out especially after the wet spell last weekend.
How the hell are we supposed to keep coats right on ponies, they will have grown winter coats again by July, just in time to go down south and be against the ponies living in warmer climes ;)
We are back in winter jackets, hats & gloves & Im getting seriously peed off :(
 
Some of the horses on the yard got brought in this morning all tucked and and shaking all over. I personally think they have been spooked and combined with with driving crispy rain and just above freezing temps they just lost the plot. I brought nugz in last noght as was out the night before and was not impressed about it. He is having a bit of a duvet day today :D
 
Vile weather here - rain, wind and really cold - more like November. I managed a lunging session at 6am this morning - it was just windy then, no rain. Stood my girl in for half an hour then turned back out. They're all out 24/7 now - with rugs of course :)
 
Mine are technically out but have finally taken up residence in the field shelter (having stood in the hedge all day yesterday!) and don't appear to be coming out, I will probably relent and give them a night in tonight as a rest from the wind!
 
It's raining lots on and off with hail yesterday but not actually that cold (about 8 degrees). I have been putting rugs on at night but checked them both yesterday and their undercoats were warm and dry so decided they'd brave it! I only got into the routine of rugging because the trees were all bare, now they provide perfectly good rain shelter so I'll try not go all mother hen unless it gets really chilly again :-)
 
Midlands and blowing a gale and heavy rain showers. Yesterday we had hailstones and heavy rain showers but less wind.
Both boys are out but are all rugged up. I'm expecting to find two very fed up TBs with their bums to the wind when I go to feed them later on today. Crazy crazy weather! :(
 
Has been raining in Essex all day so far. Was my one day to ride as well, well that's not happening - horse looks like a wet muddy hippo. They are not happy and have been standing in field shelter most of the day. Oh well, good for the crops etc I guess
 
Well there is an icy north wind and rain squalls here in Moorlands, I feel sorry for those booked in to camp this weekend seems like true bank holiday weather to me. Hope it does not affect shows.
My boys are out no rugs and I hope they are using up some of the spring grass to keep warm and not put weight on.
I was going to start limiting them to the paddock during the day now, but today there is no need its where they are choosing to be as it is the most sheltered area from wind. So sheep, ponies, geese and chickens are all in same paddock which is unusual.
