Found a rusty horseshoe in my horse's bed this morning with a nail sticking out of it.

He's unshod and so are both horses on either side of him.

Spent all day wondering how he managed to bring it in and the best i've come up with is either he stood on it on our hack last night and brought it in on his foot (though I think i'd have heard it and he'd have felt unlevel) or he rolled on it in the field and it caught on his rug or tail  noone comes past the stables so I doubt it was a person throwing it in...

It didn't come in with his shavings and i'm pretty sure it didn't come in the hay especially as the hay comes from a farm with no horses.

Have checked every inch of him and no holes in him or his feet

I'm just glad he's not hurt himself and wish I had a camera in my stable ;)

Bet it was in his tail.

Years ago the farrier was shoeing my horse and the horse jumped about a bit. We looked for his shoe holder doodahs which had been on top of the anvil, for flipping ages, in the straw beds in case it had been knocked under a door. Everywhere! He gave up and started shoeing him again and then said ha I know where they are, in the tail lol.

I lost a ring in the field once (summer grazing, the horses go there once the haylage is made). It was just a £5 thing from Accessorize, nothing special, so while it was frustrating, I quickly forgot all about it. 2 years later I was filling a haynet and as I shook out the haylage it fell out and there it was on the floor of the hay shed. It obviously made its way into the haylage. They make about 100 big bales and there are 10 of us who use it so the chances of it appearing at the exact moment that I was getting haylage must have been tiny. It was a bit mangled but I've kept it.

I've found half a fox and a hedgehog before so a shoe seems quite likely to me :D

I've found a flat hedgehog (had hold of the damn thing annoyed that the bale was black inside before it dawned on me what it actually was as I saw the spines! Also found half an Adder which frightened the life out of me. I now shake at arms length lol

I would guess its come out of your hay.
