Yet again my wellys have died :(
I get through a pair of £75+ Muck Boots in 6months, have killed a pair of HKM boots - http://www.hkm-sportsequipment.eu/a...01&ukat=036&uukat=008&content=artikel&id=5119 - after 4 weeks :eek3: and I'm sick of having cold, soggy feet, and spending stupid amounts of money!
In the last 3 years I have gone through 3 pairs of the Woof Wear boots like the HKM's I've just killed, 5 pairs of Muck Boots, a pair of £100 specialist walking boot thingies my partner gave me for xmas as well as 2 pairs of jod boots, and a couple of pairs of DM type boots from the cheapy shoe shops in town.....

Am I destined to walk in boots resembling a tramps with plastic bags inside them for the rest of my life??

I can't afford anything over £80, as I'm so hard on boots, and I also have extremely wide calves and a high instep I struggle with the cheapo boots like the green farmers ones.... Any idea's?

I am a boot killer but I am having luck with Aigle Parcours at the moment., and for yard boots cheapie hi tec walking boots from millets!!
 
I feel your pain, OP. I am on my 3rd pair of Muckboots, the 1st pair were great and lasted 2 years. the 2nde pair lasted about a year before letting wet in and the 3 rd pair haven't even made it their 1st birthday. I shall not be replacing them with another pair of Muckboots but I haven't decided yet what to get instead.
 
Second getting a good pair of hiking boots for yard - I change my boots for riding - you'll probably get more for your money as well. I also hose mine off before leaving the yard as urine is bad for boots as well, I have leather boots so they get a run over with dubbin once a week as well.
 
Apparently a UK based company called Century who used to make the good old long lasting hunters are still making boots. At £50 it might be worth a shot o see if they're the real deal :)
 
you'd spend less if you spent more on one pair which lasted. My le chameaus are still like new after 18 months. Muck boots and hunters only ever did me 6...
 
Are you washing your boots off after trudging through mud, and after mucking out and being by the muck heap?

I rinse my muck boots off after I'm all done mucking out and in the fields, and they are now on their 6th winter, and they have had everyday use for the past 4 winters!

The ammonia in urine rots the materials over time, so washing boots off prolongs their life.

I would suggest getting some joules wellies, and they have a year warranty on them.
 
I've been very happy with my Crocs. They were very cheap and have done 2 years of very heavy use, including lots of walking. The only catch is fit - they have very narrow ankles and they did give me blisters at first - but there are a couple of model options and I think the shorter ones are roomier.

Yes, I wash my boots down at least twice a day, as the yard loo is through the yard office and I'd get murdered if I trudged mud through! :p

Joules wont touch my legs unfortunately, same with Hunters or Agile.... hence why I went with Muck boots in the first place as they are so stretchy....

I change my boots for riding, as I can't get long boots to fit and always wear chaps ( do I sound bonkers yet??) but once my jod boots get to a certain age/scruffiness they turn into my summer yard boots :)

Perhaps I just work too hard and should get my partner to keep me and my neds/dog/sheep/guinea's in the manner to which we are accustomed! :p

I guess I will just have to go and try on a shop full of boots, see which ones fit me, and then not cry as I'm told how much they are!

I only got a couple of months out of those hkm boots last year.

I do go for basic cheap mucker yard boots (current ones are Aldi) but I only expect to get one winter from them.

For proper mud I have gone back to basic dunlop wellies with thermal insole and welly liners.. cheap!
 
Both my daughter who is 5'11 and I have wide calves. Our favourites at the moment are Aigle

My last pair were,http://www.easy-wellies.co.uk/aigle-parcours-2-vario-bronze-p-1005.html, I went on the wellie stand at Hickstead and tried on every pair under a £100 and these were the only ones that fit anywhere near my calf and they lasted 3 years.
The crocs are good when you can get them on, I bought a bigger size than normal but I have put talc in them to get them on, they are small round the ankle.

I am a welly destroyer too. Dunlops old fashioned ones with the red rim around the top seem to last 2 winters. I have also had a few B and Q cheapies £4.99 ish that have done 6 months. I will spend a small fortune on good leather boots but not wellies. I have wide calves, well I have wide everything, but the dunlops fit me and the B/Q ones were half length.

I have discoverd that keeping them on for driving is the killer for many pairs of muck boots. After being banned from one local shop for taking back three pairs in a row where the sole had split from the upper at the heel I realised what was doing it. Shouldn't be so, they should be fine, but apparently not.
 
I spend all day, everyday in my hi-tec hiking boots as I use them for work (gardening) too. They last me years (on my 2nd pair in ten years!). Millets have a great range and a sale coming up but Amazon normally work out cheaper. Anything else starts to play havoc with my back.

I do this now just buy cheap ones, have tried muck boots and rok boots they are just rubbish, the rok ones were £80 and lasted 3 months the first pair went back, second pair split in about 4 places shop would not change them and you cannot get in touch with rok.
 
I'm another with plain Dunlop wellies; £10 from the factory Shop and on their third winter. Easy to slip on or off and just wear an extra pair of socks when it's cold. I do like a good insole in them though otherwise they're a bit hard on your soles. I wish they'd wear out so I could justify another pair but don't look like that's going to happen any time soon.
 
I have similar conformation to the OP and work in dairy farming in Nora Dolomites they are urea resistant and this pair split last weekend after a year... I put sheepskin insoles in them in winter and wear two pairs of socks.

I'm about to surge on some le chameau chasseurnords thought as they do a 41 calf yahoo!
 
I used to be a welly killer too but the last few pairs of Argyll black farmers wellies have lasted way beyond normal for me, about £40?

Like you, I've got wide calves and high insteps.
Couldn't justify the cost of replacing my beloved Le Chameau that I've had for 5 years so took a gamble on a pair off of ebay from the seller Scotfieldsports (I paid £45 delivered).
So far I have very happy cosy feet - they're lined with 3mm neoprene (the wellies, not my feet), good traction in the mud and so far think they're great for the money!
Don't be put off the camouflage option - it's actually leaves and branches and blends well with mud :-)

If only I could buy the £8 ones, but to fit my calf I need a size 10 or 11.... 2/3 sizes bigger than my actual foot :/
Short ones or walking/trainer type boots are also out, as I'm a groom on a stud, and also a sheep farmer, so gateways/hay feeders etc are often at least ankle deep in mud so I'd be just as bad off as with holey boots.

Thanks again though, some good suggestions - perhaps I will have to bite the bullet and buy expensive ones! xx
 
Hmm I live in simple Dunlop steel toe wellies they last forever and then ride in woof wear spectrums. I don't think I'm a boot killer but the dunlops have thick soles.
 
I've got a pair of Ariat wellies, cost around the £80 mark. Really pleased with them, very comfy, come in 3 different width fittings, I'm in the medium one which is very generous and you can ride in them too! So far so good, much better than anythings else I've had in the past, including Hunters, Muck Boots Co, and others that I can't remember the name of!
 
This week I managed to kill a pair of Tresspass 'snow boots' in under a week. I wore them three times and on the second wear they started letting in water while I was walking through...some long grass. I think durability is an issue in all brands.
I have ROKs as well and they split after about six months.
I've started wearing my 'good' Ariat winter short boots and they have been doing OK so far. Shame to scuzzy them up!
 
Go to your local farmers shop and buy bog standard wellies that farmers buy. I got some last year, just plain simple wellies which cost about £40 but they've been great and loads of life left in them.
