Welsh D owners please help!

Please can you give me advice re confo etc on this Sec D as I dont know a huge amount about them I would like to know more.
He is 15.2hh just turned 5.

This is NOT my horse, but just want some confo crit on him really as he maybe mine in future.
 
What crit are you after? Comparison to breed standard for showing or just has it got any glaring faults? Really we need better pictures.

From what we can see he looks like a sweetie.

I would like to show and working hunters, yes in comparison to the breed is what I am after and if he has any niggles anyone can see that I can't.

From what I can see looks like he's got a nice shoulder, good bone, sturdy looking but not county standard IMO (although that may not bother you!). He's got a poor backside (like my gelding - low set tail and steep croup) but that can be quite common. He's a sweetie, needs a good tidy up but I think he could be lovely under all the hair :D

If you can, that that would be helpful.
At present, as said above, he looks a sweetie, but no conformation can really be objectively seen. He seems to be dropping away behind, but that could be the ground - or also his age as he will still be growing.
Get him stood up on a level surface, pref with a plain background (back walls of barns or stables usually are best.

Get him stood 4 square & pics taken from each of 4 sides.
Also then take pic with front leg that is nearest the camera placed a 'hoof' in front of the other side, making sure the same side hind is also placed back a hoof distance behind the otherside. This will show the shoulder better - and also the rear limb too, do the same on the other side.

Only you will be able to check on movement (unless you post up film :D )- so film him walking away & back from you - and also trotting away & back.

Agree with comment about poor backside, my D was the same. He could possibly be a little upright in the front pasterns? But I can't see well enough to be sure.

Good solid chest from the front, neck looks nice enough too. With some maturity and muscle he would probably do well locally, but county standard, not so sure?

I am no expert, my welsh D was the exact opposite to breed type, he was fine and elegant, people thought he was a small warmblood lol.
 
It isn't the best pic to base a cc on but he's got a lovely kind face. It does look as though he's got a sloping croup but to be honest a lot of the show cobs I see have similar backsides :rolleyes: so I wouldn't be overly worried about that. Honestly he doesn't scream welshie type to me, so like others have said I wouldn't think he'd do well at county level (and many cob judges don't like the bigger animals for whatever reason). But he is definitely handsome and he looks like someone you could have a lot of fun with :)
 
We show welsh and sorry to say he wouldnt do well showing he isnt typey enough that said you may do ok wh if he is a good jumper with lots of manners as he can pick up good marks there even if his type and confo get lower marks x

Those that say he's not very 'typey' of a welsh, would you think he is a cross or just not well put together, I know they are not great pics really for confo.

So basically he would do not good even at local level?
 
This is my boy, by comparison. We have tried showing but get nowhere as he's not typey enough. Mine is too coarse, the judges like the very pretty ones, M is a bit carthorse like!! But he does very well in dressage and likes to jump!! So we only do a couple of shows for a change of scene and a day out, we do classes like RC pony, novice showing, best gelding etc and he does better in these than we would do In M&M classes, as we look very out of place against the county set.

my d is very fine and apparently out of show stock though im not interested in showing at the moment.

he does look very nice with a lovely face but im a sucker for a pretty face!!
 
Ah, interesting, I often look at them and would wish for a 15.2h but struggle to find much above 14.3h-15h, I may get my dream one day then, thanks :)

yeah ive got a maesmynach and hes 15.3hh and has very long legs and people think hes a sports horse,its very difficult as all the studs seem to breed very different shaped horses,and they take so long to mature !
 
I know he isn't county standard for sure.... I just want to working hunter him, fun rides, fun showing really nothing serious as im past all that its all about having fun with him and me, jumping would be good too, sponsored rides etc and lots of good hacking.

I just adore his face he looks such a poppet, I personally believe his bum will fill out once he matures and lots of work to improve this, he will get a good topline, sort the belly out too lol, quick tidy up I can see potential in him for doing what I want really.
