Thinking of taking my mumma on a road trip to Llanybydder as she used to go to the sales there a long long time ago and she could do with a break and a change of scene - plus I'm interested to see what its like having heard so many stories about it from times past!! :) Just out of interest really, what kind of stock goes through there now (in mums day it was purely mountain ponies going for a few guineas!!) and what kind of prices would you be expecting to pay? And which other sales are there of welsh ponies that could be of interest? :) Thank you in advance, sorry its all a bit vague, typing at speed at work!! :) xx

My yearling came from there nearly 2 years ago, she was in an awful state and only cost about £55, she was one of the cheapest to go through that day which really surprised me, I had gone to Brecon sales a few months earlier and a lot of the foals were going for less then £20.

I would think that the prices would be even lower now, I'm not an expert but I would think you could get a weanling for less then £20 especially if it's a colt (they can go for as low as £5), they quality isn't always very good so you have to be very careful.

Mine was about 4 months old when she came from the sale, full of worms, lice and very ribby. She had very weak legs, even when she came to me a month after she was bought at the sale she struggles to walk. It was weeks before she really started to trot/canter in the field. She was destined for the meat man :(

If you go be prepared to see things you don't like, ponies DO sell to the meat man which can be hard to see!

Hay-on-Wye have a nice pony sale every year, that may be to far from you though.

This was my little scrap when she came to me......
