Thank you to those who answered my post on asking questions when ringing for a puppy.

I took your advice on board and have now found a pup! (sooner than I thought we would!!) He is one of a litter of three, 2 dogs 1 bitches
We will be getting him in about 2 weeks, when he is about 8 / 9 weeks.

I have been researching lots about food and I'm a little confused!
He is/has been weaned on to Eukanuba puppy food, but I'm not sure it's all that good (from what I've read)

As he is a bullmastiff I've been looking at Royal Canin Giant Puppy food, has anyone got any thoughts on this??

Congratulations.
its always nice to have a new member of the family.

I'm not really up on which dry food is good but i know that Eukanuba is not great.
Have you thought about feeding raw? Especially good for a big hunk of a dog that he is going to grow up to be.

I have read loads about all types of foods including raw, but to be honest that scares me a bit.

I would be really worried about not feeding correct amounts etc

Yes, we have had boxers for the last 15yrs but neither me or hubby wanted another. Not really sure why...just didn't.

We both love big dogs and after researching we decided on Bull mastiff. They are great with kids, loyal and protective.

It is really easy once you get started.

You just need to work out 3% of his weight and feed that.
I would revue his weight once a month and adjust his food while he is still growing.

You feed more bone to put on weight and more meat to take it off.

I love feeding raw its so easy and good for them and i see the changes it makes in dogs health and behavior.

Yay! Piccies please

Congratulations! I would stay on the Eukanuba until you decide what to change to, personally I feed dry, although we do sell BARF in our shop, but I would keep a pup on a puppy, then a junior feed, until it is at least a year old. If you do decide to go to BARF, I believe that now SA37 is no longer available there is a supplement called CF50 which will help to make up the deficiencies which can arise.

Great news, can't wait for piccies. With regard to food, I would keep him on the food the breeder has been using to start with (hopefully they will provide you with some to start you off) and then change over gradually to whatever you decide.

We have just switched to raw after feeding homecooked, organic for the last six years. My dog's coat is like a mirror, and she has the energy of a puppy.

Because our dog is small, it's easy enough to feed her the ready-bought venison patties from Nature's Variety. We're in America, but my impression of the raw feeders on here is that it's a bit more DIY and therefore more affordable.

Please post some pictures of your pup

My vet recommended Purina Pro Plan for my rotty. He says that it is a good dry food for big boned dogs and they love it. Apparently it contains a lot of meat. Congrats on your new baby.

My riding instructor has one. He's called Anvil (her hubby is a farrier).

Fab dog. Big un-nerving when I'm watching Hannah's riding lessons and the dog is "stood" next to me with his front feet on the fence, standing taller than I am. Bless him, he's a star though.

Thanks everyone.

I am going to keep him on the food he is used to for a few weeks or month, I'll decide once I know he is settled.

I really would like to feed raw, as i'm into home cooking, fresh local ingredients for the kids etc.. but it seems a bit daunting for a dog..........that sounds mad! LOL!

Here's a picture to start with, I'm sure I'll post loads once he is here!!

. We feed Arden Grange and are really pleased with the results, may be worth checking out for when you decide to change.
