I don't think I've posted much about my Loan "pony" other than he came to me last September from Cumbrian Heavy Horses, is a shire gelding (although has had foals as a youngster) and is a bit green* for an 8 year old.
(* - understatement of the week. He came to me backed and hacked out in company so in 13 months I've taught him all he knows with the help of a couple of excellent instructors). I've schooled him up myself and it's the first time I've done something like this - my retired horse had been under saddle for 3 years before I had him so knew a thing or 2. We are far from perfect but we're having a great time and on Saturday we headed out for his second attempt at BD (3rd if you include the TQ we did a few weeks previously) this time on 2 qualifier tests.
Our first test (P17a) was a bit dodgy but somehow we managed 61% so that was a point. And I'm chuffed to bits with the photo!

Then we went off to the other arena to do P13. This time he was just so much more attentive to my aids and, although far from a perfect test, he listened to me throughout and it was an error free test. There were big pats for him at the end and I had to buy a packet of polos from the cafe because he deserved a treat! He pulled a 67% which I am delighted with and it feels like there is loads more to come yet!
Now we have 4 months to perfect our right canter transitions in time for the Area Festivals!

Beautiful photo. I may have sneaked a peek at your test (naughty, in covid times!) and it was lovely. He's a powerful lad! Well done. It was miserable working in at Reaseheath (I was just a chauffeur this time) and that back outdoor school was saturated! I saw by the N28 class the headlights were reflecting on the surface water ? It was truly foul.

Well done!

Thanks for watching us! :) It's very lonely doing this without any spectators/support crew. If you see us again do come and introduce yourself (from 2m away obviously!)
I think I was the 3rd rider in the back arena and I couldn't get over how squishy it was for us; our girth was vile! I did wonder how it would fair for the ele's later and I notice they cancelled the UA in there on Sunday.
He's a lovely and talented horse, just wants to be in charge some of the time but worries when you tell him off  It's a balancing act at this stage but he was a really good egg in P13 and just shows a fraction of what I think he's got to come.
When I got home it was a warm bath and a big cup of tea!

That’s fabulous!

So glad that your hard work on a loan horse has paid off.

Might he be a keeper?
Thanks! No, this one isn't going to stay forever. I've been lucky that he's not had to go back this summer (finally a win from Covid) but next year I need to find something all the family can ride too - 7 yo twins and very novice husband are not a good match for this powerful, sharp and green horse. Plus I know how much money he'd cost to buy and I couldn't afford that unless I won the lottery!

Lovely photo! Well done. He really is gorgeous. Surely he's a perfect family horse - kids will grow and husband will improve :p

Fabulous, this is brilliant to read. I love that he’s a ‘non traditional‘ dressage horse and it’s great to see you both going well.
