What a Difference a 6 Months Make!

I was looking at some piccys of my TB today and can't believe how different he looked 6 months ago!

This was him during the Summer after having a bit of time off and 4 days worth of box rest due to being treated for Navicular and Arthritis (that had just been diagnosed) -

And this is him recently -

Who'd have thought that my 'poor doer' would put weight on during Winter and look better then he did in the Summer!!

Thanks guys, I'm really pleased with him, he's 17 now but looks better then he has in a long time

I try and make it my aim to have a 'rounded' TB out of winter, its like a competition to myself! (i dont mean i ram him full of cereals though!)

My nearly 17yo TB always looks a bit weedy at this time of year, then looks lovely for a bit in the spring, before going pot bellied in the summer!

Out of interest, what have you been feeding him?!

Yes he's back in work and going well, haven't done an awful lot of anything over the Winter really as I'm short of daylight hours so the real test will come when the clocks change but he's feeling really good so far.

I've changed his feed a bit over the Winter so he's gone from 'branded' feed to mostly 'shops own'.

He gets 3 feeds a day, 2 of which consist of a scoop of chaff (shops own), a scoop of conditioning nuts (shops own) and a mug of outshine (mainly because I won 10 bags, not sure I'd use it otherwise!).

And the 3rd feed is a scoop of chaff with a scoop of ready mash extra.

He also gets pink powder and ad-lib haylage.

He's costing less to feed this Winter but looks better for it

Grazing wasn't great but he was fed as always. Thinks he was just genuinely feeling like cr@p so didn't do well. Last Winter he cost me a fortune to feed and he still didn't look this well, he was also stupidly cold all the time to the point where I couldn't keep him warm so I think he was maybe in pain then but not showing it. This Winter he's only had one rug on instead of the 3 he had on last Winter so think he is just feeling much happier and healthier

Wow, and long may it last I hope! Seriously I hope he stays sound for you, he looks like a different horse, much stronger and and somehow much younger too.
