your at a show...?

just wondering what everyone elses is
smile.gif

for me
its got to be people riding 2 abreast in the warm up..especially indoors you just cannot get past them, and its so awkward (sp.) when your in canter or about to turn to jump!!
mad.gif

People in the dressage warm up with the lingest schooling whip in the world passing to close and poking your horse in the eye!

When sj'ing people riding 2 abreast or more, chatting away oblivious to everyone else! And even worse, people taking control of the practise fence either putting it up twice as high as it should be, or continually coming round again and again and either stopping or knocking it down each time when they are in after me!!
Dressage, when someone decides that they want to run through the whole test in the warm-up and everyone else has to keep out of their way!

People with badly behaved dogs.
Why, if they know the dogs snap at others, even when on a lead, do they take them?

Most distracting!

The people at the whacking great big lorry next to my piddly little trailer, who insist on yanking 5 ponies out of it and rearranging and putting them back on, and off, and on, and off.....ALL sodding day- durr, for a start, wouldn't you just put them in the order they need to come off, and secondly, do you need to yell, and fling rugs about, and encroach on my space so my 4 year old nearly has a heart attack as she pokes her nose out of trailer to see some JC pony reversing up her ramp?!

bad warm up etiquette
and pushy parents

Agree

and also others not giving me enough space by my trailer to unload safely! AND dogs who ''lift their legs'' on things that they shouldn't!!! lol - CONTROL them please.

horses running into me in the warm up and people who park so close to my trailer that i can't get my horse on and off without going over their car!

erm can I be grumpy and have a list?

1. people who warm up in the lorry park even though there is a perfectly good warm up ring. ( a girl the other day was warming up her horse in the lorry park with a long schooling whip with a plastic bag tied to the end presumably to 'wake it up' my 5yo was tied to the lorry and went mental.. so selfish!)

2. people who put the warm up jump hugee.. then walk off and leave it up at said stupid height!

3. people who practise their 'jump off' jumps by charging round the ring and cutting you up.

4. people who stand in the entrance/warm up ring and watch the course.. such a waste of often valuable space!

sorry grumpy rant over
laugh.gif

helpers walking in front of the fence when you've presented at it
others using Pidge's bum to stop
crazy.gif

catching you with their schooling stick when going past as they hold it out at right angles!
not understanding left to left
shocked.gif

how many more do you want
wink.gif

Screaming! It goes right though me. I understand if you horse is rodeo-ing, but please swear under you breath rather then scream. Can you tell I had this at my clear round last week????
tongue.gif

i have several!!!!
1. people who do not have the intelligence to see that i have a side ramp so jam there lorries right up next to mine!!!! so i cant get my horses out!!
2. just as you are on the approach to the practice jump someone starts changing it when they can SEE that you are about to jump it!!!
3. when you are actually about to jump or even jumping someone rides right in front of the fence so you have to slam on the brakes!!!
4. people who have 4 horses in one class and decide to have them all go at the end so the whole class has to wait on said person faffing around on so many horses. why cant they understand that you put 1 at the beginning 1 in the middle etc etc?
5. class having to wait at the end for usually a pro who hasnt even got the horse ready yet!!!
god im super grumpy!!!!

1.Late arrivals, "We are waiting for 1 more competitor" they finish then again "We are waiting for 1 more competitor"

2. The whole practice fence being used as a schooling session for 1 rider (usually a horse who clearly doesnt want to jump)

Mine is mostly just people in the warm up. I hate them not understanding which side to pass and literally randomly changing direction and cutting you up or going right next to my horse (with a red ribbon) who then kicks them..

Also, do you HAVE to practice your movements in the middle of my circle and stop practicing siad movements as soon as I go straight and then proceed to leg yield/canter/change rein etc right in front of me???

I was at a show recently when someone let they're GREAT DANE come bounding out of the car and jump up at me. I said out loud to my dad (so owner of dog would hear) "good job I'm not scared of dogs"

If I was a small child I would have been knocked over, and if I didnt like dogs I would have been terrified!

collecting rings in general for me. they always bugged me but now i'm on a nervy 4 year old i'm even more aware of it. i usually find unaffiliated the worst- i went unaffil sj last week and it was horrendous. kids wizzing about on ponies cutting me up, bossy mothers wandering around on the track and then shouting at me when i nearly ran them over
wink.gif
putting the fence too high...parents making kids cry etc etc the list goes on.
mad.gif

When people see that your horse is slightly green and sillly at show and wee kids nearly crash into you as you are trying to tell your horse that it's not that exciting when he is asked to go up a pace! and said twat stilll goes past you at hundred miles an hour. happened to a friend when was watching her though it was very uncourteyous (sp?) of them.

My pet hate is everyone's entourage standing in the warm up, either near the jumps/entrance for sj or just in the way for eventing (where there are normally oodles trying to warm up on the only flat bit of field for dressage).

People who have no concept of what a red ribbon in the tail means...

people who have an entire showground to park in yet still come and park about 6 inches away from my trailer...

people who obstruct the entrance to the rings...

judges who know absolutely b*gger all...my personal faves on that one are the judge who marked my New Forest down in a large m+m class because he said she was definitely a Welsh sec B due to the fact she is branded with the letter B...and I got marked down once because of "that stick" (my show cane)...judge said I should have a proper whip like the person who was placed before me...who in actual fact was showing with a jumping whip...and this didn't happen to me personally but I once saw a pony that was plaited get placed 1st in a M+M class becasue in the judge's words it had plaits and looked prettier than the others in the class

i have a few...usually in the warm up scene:

1) people who walk in front of the fence to change it when you are about 3 strudes away and they can clearly see you are approaching!!
shocked.gif

2) people who ride accross the front of a fence when you are approaching
3) people practising ''jump off'' turns, basically galloping round as fast as possible, jumping on angles etc and almost collising with you.
4) people who's horses i see REPEATEDLY kicking out at others, with no red ribbon in their tail
5) people hogging the warm up fence, whacking it up to about 1m40, then walking off and leaving it there!
mad.gif

6) late entries/people faffing about ''we are still waiting for 1 more competitor'' ''we are waiting for 1 more competitor'' etc

SO annoying...

jeez i am a grumpy old fart arent I?

From a warm up point of view as mentioned above the entourage standing in the warm up area either doing the final finishing touches to the horse's make up (!) or just gossiping which is really annoying. Too small or nowhere to warm up (a feature at some major shows) and too small a ring particularly if a show class with a group gallop. And from a difficulty point of view, a show where the ring is a long way from the lorry park and there is no tannoy to the lorry park so that you have absolutely no idea what is going on and when your class may start. Perhaps to counter this we should have a what really pleases you at a show (other than winning or horse going well of course).

Mine are slightly different because I jump my pony in senior classes, she is ALWAYS the smallest there.

I get so peeed off with people making patronising or sarcastic comments about her size, or being really rude to me. Shes just as entitled as you to be there, now let me get on with it.

Thankfully, shes such a scopey jumper, they usually shut up when we jump the practice fence at whatever stupid height they left it!

people who park their horses on the landing side of fences and chat to their friends/helpers, oblivious to others trying to jump

people who ride at you in the warm up and expect you to move out of their way

people who have lessons from their trainers in the middle of the warm up

snap!! although he's a welsh cob too, and always gawp at him as he does his over exagerated welsh trot!

mine is people who know their horses kick, but DONT have a red ribbon and expect you to know to stay away!!

People who randomly change around their dressage times/have no clue when their time is.
mad.gif

People who start warming up too late so the entire order of the class has to be re-sorted around them!
mad.gif

People who've just finished jumping in one class and immediately hog the warmup fences again for the next class, with no consideration for others who haven't had a chance to warm up at all yet.
mad.gif

General inefficiency: there really needs to be a competent ring steward to keep horses on standby.
mad.gif

Hmm...most people's complaints seem to revolve around the warm-up ring!

From a show yesterday:

'Don't come behind this horse he kicks' - well the reason I didn't come directly behind my box is that the horse tied to the one next door actually had a red ribbon in its tail AND the owner warned me as soon as I arrived that it kicked. Your excuse 'oh I forgot to put a ribbon in' doesn't really cut it.

'Don't make that fence a cross pole', well I'm sorry, but I don't want my 1st warm up jump to be over a 1m, for an 80cm class.

'Sock it in the teeth!' shouted by a mother to her adorable little child 'cos the pony carted her. Hmm, so slapping it down the shoulder with a big whip and stabbing it in the side with your spurs isn't going to wind it up (I would like to say, that I did speak to the show organiser about that one, and I HOPE that they in turn spoke to mother/child).

Other than that, I had a very nice day out
