mine is...

Brand new Tyrex (Equithème) rug, cost 159€. And the fastenings wont stay fastened. I've found my mare now twice with a dangling surcingle strap, and yesterday one of the chest straps had come unclipped, so the rug had slipped back and was pulling on her shoulders. Conversly the clips for the leg straps are already stiff and won't snap back into place, leaving them permanently open or closed grr.

And another one - yard related... Our yard help insists on taking rugs off over the head without undoing the chest straps. I can live with this on my mare, who is 13.3, and I can easily ret a rug back over her head, but my youngster is 16.1, and it is an extra 5 mins (I know, not much in the grand scheme of things) to undo the chest straps while the rug is over the rail/in my hands to put it on him.

Ah well... only another 6 months to go!

That I can no longer get a lovely canvas wool-lined leather-strapped proper New Zealand winter rug for my horse made to measure by a friend. Sob sob.

I am sure they can be bought over here too, but any prices I have seen are horrendous. Everything else is synthetic.

I'm sick of finding a rug I like, good price and fit only to find they have a fillet string and not leg straps. There seems to be so many more about like this and I much prefer leg straps on my horse.

If you have T bar fastenings putting a plaiting band around the T bit can help them stay in place.

I wouldn't like that either! I can't quite get my head around that because undoing the chest straps isn't exactly difficult (whilst on the horse, that is!), and sounds lot more hassle to put them back on.

So far, I have to say my TB's various Shires rugs have been great and I've not yet found anything amiss. (What's the betting I do when I go up later!)

They don't seem to be waterproof anymore?!? I have several light rain sheets which are all basically new and not one will withstand a night in the rain. Just not rugging at all now but two are very prone to skin infections at the wither and one already got it which is why I want to rug but no point if they don't even last one rain drop.

Sensible rug companies design their rugs to have detachable leg straps that can be converted into a fillet string - suits both the 'leg strap' and 'fillet string' advocates then!

That there are no 50g or 100g half neck rugs and very few affordable lightweight half necks around especially in a 1200d outer that are really really waterproof. I have a hot horse who is prone to skin problems and needs to be kept dry! and £200 for a rhino rug is just ridiculous though I have just got one for £70 so I feel a little happier though Im poor and prefer my rugs under £50 and to last for years lol (yes yes I know am not being very realistic but my masta avante did last 2 years before leaking and only cost £25 in the sale)

Just had to buy new ones as she seems to have grown in the last year and wont fit her 5ft9's anymore. I can never seem to rug right at the minute either, no fill l/w and she's quite cool still, 100g and she's hot!

That the "shoulder" vents aren't anywhere near my horse's shoulder, which means that the rug pulls across her shoulders and rubs. One of these days I am going to design and make my own! Grrrrrr!

That's definitely worse than not being able to find the right rug! I will stop sobbing.
Hope your circumstances change and you have one soon. :)

Don't feel to bad one of my requirements for the next one is that its fits 6'6 PE rugs so I don't have to buy any again! :tongue3:

Lots of things already mentioned! There seams to be at least one different fault on each rug. When they change a rug and make it worse! Btw a lamb tail rind/band works well as a cheap surcingle stopper.

Over their head..... How odd and unsafe imo :s

My gripe is why..... When you get a new rug do they lie in the smelliest patch or roll in the dirtiest area!
And why don't they all have clips.... I hate buckles

Mine is that I bought a tough material, supposedly 'rip proof' rug and two weeks later there's a huge tear down the side and a rather smug looking horse!

That apart from the chicken rugs, and a very snazzy neon yellow and blue JW rug, rugs only come in boring colours! I used to have a superman rug but the company went bust :( I'm hoping Shires get excited about the all the frantic chicken rug buying and come up with similar stuff for next year!

I had the superman rug too! My cob outgrew it though and I gave it to a friend. Loved that rug. More people need to make fun rugs.

Waterproof rugs that aren't, and stable rugs that all the bedding sticks too! And I'd like more lightweight rugs, 50gm, 100gm and 150 gm, that go in a domestic washing machine so I can wash them myself as I HATE dirty stable rugs.

I spent ages finding rugs that would fit my cob properly, discovered Derby House (hooray!) bought him a full wardrobe (no fill, 100g, 200g, 350g) and now he has outgrown them all! He's 15hh and needs 6'9! My retired 15.2 is only in a 6ft!

currently, not many gripes... I have a PE rug with 'undergarments' and I love it! my only gripe would be that I wish the liners/ bodywarmers were a bit more durable... I left mine hung over the wall that we hang all our rugs over and its ripped in several places now from people moving it and the thin lining has snagged. Ive found that buying a PE rug with liners is pretty cost effective when you break it down into LW, MW and HW costs, the rug itself is durable, deep in girth, well fitting, doesn't tend to rub but the pesky liners are not heavy duty enough
