What are your most hated pieces of equipment?

Excuse me, i commented on his post, and im not part of any coordinated attack,i commented because i disagreed with the nonsense he was spouting

Apparently if a few people disaggree with a post and we all post an answer albeit in an uncoordinated way its pack behaviour for the first time ever I am bored by this forum ( have a peek at the Brooke thread)

WOW- some thread I started here!
Only intended for some opinions and maybe a slight debate!

Everyones opinions are very interesting. :D :D
I agree that MOST equipment, when used in the right hands has a purpose and can be helpful. It is just personal opinion as to what gives us the heeby jeebies- me with draw reins as an example. Maybe it's not so much the piece of kit, but the fact I have seen FAR too many people either mis-using them, or using them for the wrong reasons.

That chainsaw bit...ouch! Anybody know what it's "use" is?

Sometimes something can be more embarrassing to the person you are defending than the person you are attacking. Unless they are in need of your help, of course. :)

This is something I will never understand on forums like this one. Why do some people want to find out WHO others are? I could understand wanting to know their credentials, but not actually WHO they are.

*disclaimer* not siding with anyone here, just curious as to this, to my mind creepy behaviour on some forums. Also accept that Auslander may have been using the word 'who' in a general and not specific sense.

I really like finding out what other people have done horse-wise - its always interesting to hear about peoples backgrounds. I don't think that makes me creepy.

In this instance, after PR said "Whether or not Fox-Pitt wants his horses training properly is really a matter for him. Somehow I doubt it, he seems happy enough with what he's got" which suggested that he thought that one of the UKs greatest riders didn't prepare his horses properly for international events. If he thinks top level international event horses are not being ridden properly, I'd like to know what methods he uses to train his own horses so much more correctly than top level international horses. I'm genuinely interested in knowing more about the guys background.

I was being general - I don't want his name and address. I'm already fairly sure he's called Lancelot and he lives in a yurt.

Haven't read all thE posts in this thread but really wish I had put a pair of draw reigns on my horse on Sunday when I STUPIDLY tried to ride him (in the school) in the wind. If I had I may have had more control when he freaked out and may have avoided flying through the post and rail fence avoiding a Sunday spent in a&e having x rays and (at the current rate) a week on my back! ( no lectures about riding in the wind please, I have had enough of those and feeling sorry enough for myself!):(

This is the post that brought WFP into the mix, not me. So Auslander, close, but no cigar.

Erm yes but your subsequent post stated he needed to train his International Event Horses better, Im sure the Rolex Kentucky winner is hanging off your every word as to how you can improve the horses for him ;)

:D:D:D

I thought you were probably being general, but you'd be surprised at how many people REALLY want to know who someone is.

That's rubbish bad luck, hope you feel better! I ride in the wind all the time (when it's windy, I don't set up a wind machine on calm days obvs :p) so I can't think why that would provoke a lecture!

eta, my name's Lancelot and I live in a yurt.

Ha ha, Thanks, my boy is usually ok in the wind which is why I thought he would be ok but it was gale force and i didn't realise just how bad it was until I got into the school and by then it was too late, he just panicked and i took a rapid exit, not in a good way!!

Hope you are not doing to badly and hope you make a quick recovery many of us have all been caught out like this but usually you get away with it, I rode out once on a cold day it had been frosty but thawed while I was out the temperature dropped and turned the places to a skating rink we where lucky we got away with dont beat yourself up stuff happens.

Ouch indeed:eek:All the best Ted2010; my mare can be sharp when it's very windy - bad habit she picked up at our previous yard where no one rode if it was windy! I still rode her anyway, cos I'm daft as a brush:o

sorry only got to page 11 but pale rider is interested in pat parrelli so why is she interested in not forcing a horse. carrot sticks should be illegal

Pale Rider did not target WFP (a set up perhaps?)

Nobody has to agree with everyone but these co-ordinated attacks are getting really tedious. She has a right to say whatever she wants and not belittled simply because she's a western rider ....defend to the death for right of speech and all that.

k.

:confused:...no idea what you are on about? PR makes some very opinionated comments which aren't based on true
knowledge, and will get a response...as for a co ordinated attack..if only you knew the irony of that comment..to suggest that i for one would co ordinate an attack with anyone on this post...
Oh...and i had no idea they were a western rider..it has no relevance whatsoever..

I have a very real dislike of shavings forks and yard sweeping brushes.

Seconded, my yard broom had a huge napping fit this morning, firmly stuck on wall. I put the draw reins on, a grackle, kineton, market harborough, daisy rein, over check attached to liverpool driving bit and a crupper. I then got a hold of it and stuck the rowled spurs up it's arse whilst beating firmly with my diamonte encrusted dressage whip.

Success......got it off the wall, but it planted again at the top of the yard because the that bloody shavings fork was leant on the fence up there. Damm broom whipped round dropped its shoulder and I fell off straight into the pile of shite the broom was refusing to leg yield to.

That's it they both have to go. Adverts will be on dragon driving later.

My take on the thread, I thought it had taken a very wrong turn and needed lightening up

I find the comments about William Fox-Pitt totally disgraceful and I sincerely hope he finds himself representing our counrty in London andI wish him and the rest of the team every success.

ROTFL. :D

Yes, agreed re lightening the thread up. Though I would not take comments on a forum such as this about WFP at all seriously. If I were him, I'd laugh.

Adorable Alice, that's hilarious. Would you like to part ex for a hose that keeps getting kinks in? Has a blaster thingy on the end & you always end up getting soaked when you undo the kinks.

I'll buy it so long as it's been Parelli trained. :D

Agree re ignorant riders. Went to a show this weekend and saw a girl yank her horses head round to the right and pull it in small circles. Can't stand to see this kind of behaviour - it achieves nothing, especially when the horse really didn't seem to be misbehaving!

I have been advised to do this when my horse plants. You probably wouldn't see much misbehaviour other than the horse had stopped but I know from the total lack of reaction to my leg that it's the start of a plant and needs to be nipped in the bud.

ETA - I don't 'yank' but I do bring her head round and ask for a small circle, then once moving we continue where we left off.

Yup, I also do something similar if Hippo spooks off into canter...not yanking, just speed control:o
