I moved yards a few weeks ago and my mare has been convinced there's a monster in one corner of the indoor school the whole time. Previous efforts to pass said monster have inculded rearing, spinning and taking off in the other direction, or a combination of all three! She's almost had me off a few times and headbutted me in the face once as well
Today, after an hour of work, she walked past it once on each rein.
Problem is I'm meant to be riding a dressage test in there in nine days' time, and I think tackling the monster minus my brakes, noseband and martingale might be 'interesting' to say the least....
My boy has travelling issues from an incident years ago when a friends horse went ape in a two horse lorry, we re-grouped and eventually started going out again but two and a half years ago I lost my lift, yes two and a half years I haven't put him in a trailer! Today, I decided to bite the bullet as Im insured on a friends Shogun and can use her trailer, so a friend offered to come with me to the local park. Despite pooing my pants, he went on perfectly, travelled both ways like an old pro even though he was on his own and we got stuck in traffic for ages on the way home, didnt pee off with me in the park and got off the trailer like a donkey which has always been a problem with him. He's rearranged many a trailer in the past because of his little problem. I was ecstatic!
Our days' achievements include lukey, ( newly backed baby newfie) bravely leading the way out on a hack, being totally unphased by the farmer collecting up his straw bales with his noisy, pony eating machinery
, and biggest achievement of the day were the 2 strides of leg yield he performed when he was asked
Hacked George out in snaffle for the first time ever (I have always used something stronger as a safety blanket for me) - he was of course a star and seemed really chilled - yeah!
Got on my boy for a short hack after 6 weeks of me being ill and still having whiplash....I just had to do it and it felt great. my boy looked after me for the most part except he jumped at a road sign and did a star fish and jarred my neck, but hey when he looks like he does, I'll forgive him anything.
took my pony out for her first drive after bringing her home from being broken to harness! She's 13 years old and has suffered numerous ailments and was is being to find ridden work difficult, so I sent her away to be broken to drive and she's turned out to be a little star and loves her new career and not having to carry a fat lump of a mum around on her back!
