Is an American Bulldog really just a pitbull to you and I?

The reason I ask is because someone at the school had one. A lovely looking dog but clear from the outset as a small pup that he was very strong and the owners didn't nip the pulling in the bud.

He started pulling the owner over when she was walking him and would lunge at other dogs as they walked him to school. The had him on a harness too, giving him something to pull into!

He was never muzzled, which is why I ask. Should they be?

It's all irrelevant now though as the owner became pregnant and their £1000 pup (now about a year old) was sent to the local dog's home for rehoming.

If it was a pitbull, legally speaking it should have been reported to the courts, they would have decided whether to apply an exemption under the DDA. If this was granted they would have needed to have the dog on a lead and muzzled at all times in public and have had third party insurance. If it wasn't granted the dog would have been pts. At least, that's my understanding of the law.

This is what I was referring to. I thought they were a separate breed, not pitbulls you see and then wondered if Diesel should've been treated as one of the breeds covered under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

I see... No an American Bull Dog is a different breed from a Pitt Bull I think what she was saying is that a Pitt Bull looks like an American Bull Dog X Boxer. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Pitt Bulls aren't American Bull Dogs

I've seen various adverts selling what the seller is stating to be 'american bulldogs/boxers, when clearly they are Pitbull types - they can't advertise as Pitbulls so use these names instead.

Looks like he's part Cane Corso to me:

American Bulldogs are usually white or white with patches. They have super temperaments--or at least that applies to the many we've encountered, are they're far mellower than Pit Bulls.

If I saw the posted dog walking down the street, I would assume it was at least part Pit. Not that I'm an expert, but I must see twenty or so a day and generally have a good idea of what constitutes a Pit or Pit mix.

Curtains are freaking hideous.

Nope

A chap in the 'hood has a Dogue De Bordeaux male (Stella's crush) and a Cane Corso female (Prince's crush). Both big sops, and not exactly the most energetic coupling I've come across.
