What breed is this?

Looks like a Neo X.

American Bulldogs are a breed but they are not recognised by the KC yet, know someone who does Schutzhund with them.

Anybody can breed two breeds together and make a dog look like a pit.

The 'serious' sellers will sell them as 'Long legged Irish Staffs' 'red noses' etc.

Pity about the poor woman over here whose neutered, DNA registered, leashed dog kept in a secure family unit, Am Bulldog x Lab/Staff, never allowed to roam and never had a complaint made against him, was impounded three months ago because of his leg and muzzle measurements.
 
He is absolutely gorgeous,best looking dog i have seen in ages!!I think hes a staffie x as i have known someone to have a english mastiff x staffie,it was huge but lookes like a pitbull.When i was younger we did have a pitbull x staffie his personality was second to none and totally person and dog friendly,he even used to bugger off with the milkman in the morning for his daily biscuits,lol,and wait for me till 4pm in the afternoon for me to take him for a walk after school,all i used to see was a huge half black and white face poke his head round the porch door!lol,i was only 11 years old when i used to take him out.
Anyway more to the point when my dad first got him he had to take him to a vigorus training programme for pitbull crosses he passed with flying colours,but if he didnt he would have been pts,i know that theres a system in place in london for this,as recently watched documentary on t.v about pitbulls and gangs no pitbull is legal in this country but a half breed has a chance.but like i said i think his staffie x mastiff,reminds me totally of my old neighbours dog and he was a big 14st baby,lol.x
 
and for the person who said looks like it shouldnt be allowed near children,thats a bit of a sweeping statement as every dogs different and i also noticed kiddie toys in the backgrond picture,every dog is different,i used to and still do refuse to allow my uncles cocker near my son as its aggressive,but on the other hand my staffie idolises my son-

Lol,its ok i am not having a go,just think that every dog is different,plus i will be a bit biased as through out most of my life i have been bought up with every breed of bully,rottweilers and even an american red nose pit and i currently own two staffies.But everyone is different,i just think think that if the dog is fine around children and is always supervised,there shouldnt be any problems.Dont shoot me for what i said,just think its fair how some breeds need a bit of defending sometimes,but like i said no offense to be taken.x
 
Totally agree,although i do own two staffies i never leave my son alone with them as theres always that split second,he was a lot younger in that pic hes now two years old and running around like a hooligan,lol.But on the other hand i did have an english bull terrier who i would never have put around my son because of his personality and he was an old boy,didnt think it would be fair to prod and poke him about.I have always had the staement of dont judge one until you have owned one.i think a lot of the time it comes down to what people class as a statement dog,when you see bullys with huge ridiculous collars and with a gang of kids,well im chuffed to bits with my two £5.99 red and blue material collars for my boys,lol,plus i can mix and match there leads and collars.x
 
I am glad you agree,i dont want to start no trouble,but i supose you hear the brunt of it owning GSD's,it does irritate me,my step father owned a beautiful GSD she was gorgeous,she was a rescue and was very badly treated,used as a breeding machine by a guy who owned a pub,she was in a right state bless her.She had a fear in the end of big blokes and used to bark as a fear defense she always got judged for this,but i was the one who used to bite and basically explain her situation,within time she did get better and turned in to a beautiful dog,i will have to try and dig out a photo of her to show you.x

Yeah I do feel for anyone with a bull breed as they are going through what we went through fifteen or twenty years ago, we had abuse shouted at us, people would cross the road to avoid us etc.
 
The staff x I had was one of the softest dogs I know - high octane, but soft as hell. At the end of the day most of the let downs in our dogs can be attributed to ourselves, for instance my old mongrel, Baba was terrified of everyone - reason, undersocialisation by my family and the actions of one cruel man who came to see the litter when they were tiny.
 
That is a bluey brindle pit bull male,and a very beautiful dog too..I think they are great dogs..you know they do working trials and stuff in the US.And quite a few were among the dogs used at the site of 9/11 finding bodies for retrieval.Very misunderstood as a breed.Sure they are a fighting dog,but remember that any fighting dog must be safe to handle by humans even mid fight.Now that makes them a lot safer to humans than most dogs who lose it completely under those circs.I have bull terriers and mini bull terriers,and some Welfare ones as well,I have never been bitten even when breaking up a fight..these dogs are cool headed and safe,it is ALWAYS the owner`s fault if a dog turns bad.Dogs I have been bitten by include a yorkie and a cocker spaniel !!
 
I would have said he had staffie in him although now proved wrong! and a blue brindle too. Regardless he is a lovely looking dog - though missed the curtains, was focusing on the harness. Not great!

Their "Magnum" is almost twice as broad as OP's dog! And thinking back to Caesar's pitbull Daddy - I see hardly any resembalance to OP's dog. Maybe a trace of pit, but in my eyes no way a purebred.

It has the head of a staff on the body of a mastiff for me.

she is apparently american bulldog x originally from london i think where she was part of a court case. I have been stopped in the street on more than one occasion and asked if she was an american staff?? which i understand to be another name for a pit?

I think that the OPs dog is lovely, would be good to see a standing pic
 
Hi Billsmam, first of all - what a gorgeous dog! From what I know (and I am by no means an expert, but from all the pure bred pitts Ive seen) they are fairly broad across the chest, musuclar and very athletic (you have seen the pics of that Pitt pulling!)

Your girl does look broader than OPs dog through the chest, also her jaws look wider, but then I have no idea of the american bulldog and that could be inherited from them!

Just had a look and they seem to be very broad and also have more muscle in the cheek/jaw (I guess for bringing down bulls etc) so I don't know if it'd be easy to argue either!

There is no breed standard and no database for the APBT in the UK so it is very hard to say either way BM.

In America they are of a much more uniform type.

The only place you will find a pure APBT in the UK is underground - you will rarely see them in the street. Most others are mutts with lots of staff, mastiff, Am bulldog (also not recognised in the UK) thrown in.

BM I think your girl looks like a staff x.
Animals involved in court cases are usually merely pit bull 'types'.
 
My sister has a staff x pitbull who is one of the sweetest, friendliest dog's i know. Not great with other dogs through being ran at by another dog when she was a pup (i know sis should have socialised her more after it) but she will jump in with the rabbits and cuddle up with them. Here a pick to give you an idea of what she looks like

thanks Kitsune, she is a gorgeous girl. I always figured that she is just a staffie cross (im also hard pushed to believe that her mum was an american bulldog, although her mum was also part of the rescue so should be true??) she seems to be getting wider and wider as she gets older (shes 1.5 now) so could well be. its good to get some outside input, thanks.
 
I have been doing a lot of apbt work with a fantastic breeder from BC and i am totally getting into it. Going to a show this weekend to shadow said breeder as a judge.

Billsmam i would say staffie cross i don't really see any pit in her. Lovely looking dog mind.

Lila i don't see much pit in the dog you posted either. I see staff and maybe some kind of other terrier.
 
Oh is it? I have always loved that dog!! Small world, they are really classy dogs and seem to be a good poster child for the breed.
 
Katie, are they still allowed to crop ears then over there, or is it state-by-state? Why does the breeder have it done, out of interest? No strong views either way, just wondering why it is done.

ETA - don't see much pit influence in Lila's sister's dog either...very light in bone, just a strong head, doesn't mean there is pit in there. I know a dog warden that was called out to a report of a pit bull, it was an Akita :o
