What bridles do you all use?

I have been looking for what seems like forever for a new bridle. I currently have a mish mash of bridle peices for my fussy horse. He has an extra full head piece that is well padded and soft and flexible as he's sensitive around the ears, a pretty albion browband and an old but lovely and soft sabre drop noseband in cob size (little nose!). I really want the jeffries IR as the headpiece would be super for him, but the noseband is attched by buckles on either side and not sure if I could get a drop to fit it. Plus I've heard the leather and stitiching can be of questionable quality.

So here I am seeing what everyone else uses. I almost bought a devoucoux ergonomic bridle at olympia last year and now wish that I had. I don't mind spending a decent amount to get a good bridle.

I did get the Devoucoux one at Olympia! A very nice bridle.
I also have Stubben, CDT and a cheap one I got of ebay (Treadstone) The other 2 were made for us by a saddler in Newmarket!

i have sabre bridles on both mine. one is a flash, one is cavesson. lovely leatherwork - really lasts!! (im terrible at looking after tack

lol)

looks beautiful when thoroughly cleaned as is nice and supple, even when first bought. not too much either - around 60-70 quid for a bridle

I use an Anky rolled double bridle, but have a gel pad on the poll to make it more comfortable. I have a stubben snaffle with a padded headpiece.

If I were buying a new bridle now I'd get an Otto Schumacher. Lovely, lovely bridles.

I have a Collegiate bridle as it was fairly cheap and I wasn't going to spend loads as I'm constantly changing nosebands, in the past few months I have used drop, flash, grackle and cavesson. I also have Rhinegolds and GFS ones all of which have been good the Rhinegold ones especially.

Ideally I would buy a Barnsby bridle as I had a very old one of theirs that was fab, if that plan failed I'd get a pessoa as the cheaper ones made by them I've had have been great too.

Someone has said about the dy'on. Do you have the one with a shaped head piece? Any chance of a pic of it?

Both my horses have Stubben, one for everyday & one for shows. The leatherwork is quality, they fit my horses really well & they are hard wearing.

The IR bridle i think was designed by a saddler local to me - she made me mine - wonderful leather beautifully padded and made to measure for not loads more than the IR one. My sister however swears by the Kate Negus ones.

I have a couple of good old english bridles, made up of bits and pieces of old leather but still look lovely. I recently bought a collegiate comfort bridle from a friend, it is ok quality and looks very nice on but I don't think it will last like the older ones!

Yep, Stroud Saddlery. Mine's from there too, and I had a kineton noseband made by them to match.

I have a Sabre Cordoba for dressage, all pieced for me in different sizes (horse has odd size head!). In the past I've always had Jeffries bridles which last brilliantly (only replaced because I wanted something posh and new

You can order a Devoucoux by ringing your local rep, found on their website, but there was a rather amazing offer on at Olympia!!

i have a stubben one which i bought for my 14.2hh in 2006 as a special treat for going to pc champs in england

I still use it, as it fits my 16.2hh very well!

Nope, sorry, I don't have the special shaped headpiece one, just the padded one as in my link

Stubben for 4 of them, (one set of the rubber reins are still going strong afer 9 years use), Amerigo on another, very disapointing, Barnsby on 1 pony its ok and Jeffries xs on 11hh, its the only one I could get to fit still looks great after 6yrs hard wear.
Looking to buy a new one for the youngster have been looking at the Stubben with padded head piece, but theres not enough in the penny jar yet!

I use an albion on madam. Goddy had a comfort headpiece treadstone, and an amerigo grackle, aswell as the albion for dressage (spoilt?! Nah!!)

Albion still my favourite, just regret not getting it in brown

i have a rolled otto schumacher (sp?) for her affiliate dressage competitions, i have a jeffries one for showing, i have a passier one with dobert padded noseband for everyday use and a tack right double.

I make my own.

I spent a lot of time and money doing courses in bridlework with the aim of starting a business but there wasn't enough trade to make it worth while.

At least I can have made to measure bridles for the price of the materials

I want to buy a new bridle, but I can't as I would have to half destroy it to make it fit which seems a bit

Why do Bridle manufacturers insist on making their bridles too big? I ride in a bit that has an extra ring on top of the rein ring that the cheek piece attaches to, think myler, dutch gag, tom thumb. This makes all the cheek pieces too big. Bridles seem to be designed only to fit if your horse wears a snaffle, and even then it is ususally on the top hole.

I can't buy a cob size as the browband and nosebad are too small. The only way around it is to split the headpiece with a knife and then punch extra holes in it, but this then makes the browband sit too high.

I have a stubben with the single strap for a cheek piece, without a head piece and this works OK, but I want a posh bridle but I'm not spending £150 on a bridle to then have to attack it with a knife to make it fit.

Diesel Dog Having had a horse that went in a american gag xc at work, they had a full sized bridle and bought cheek pieces separately, he needed pony size!!!
