Hello
I’m looking for ideas on chops.
I have some otttb’s and horses ranging from foals to 18yrs.

Main base for feeds has been grazon (a plain dried grass) then I was feeding the poorer firsts Alfa a oil which I was happy with but a few recently have seemed to dislike the coarseness of the alfalfa, I was advised to use honey chop top line and shine which they enjoyed eating but it has some ingredients I don’t really want to feed and I’m wanting the effects of the Alfa this I could get by getting Alfa pellets to replace the normal pellets. My thoughts are keeping everyone on grazon and changing the nuts for poor doers (not really poor just not AQH easy)

I’m feeding the TB’s as if they have ulcers I’ve always fed this way before I knew why it worked 😂

So any ideas on a good base chop for these few cost does and doesn’t play a part if it works then I buy it just look who has the best deals.

They are fed other bit in there feed and ad-lib hay or Haylage I always believe this is key and you get out what you put in and feed the species what it’s designed to eat if that makes sense as best you can obviously welfare first so always open to ideas and options it’s how we evolve and care for them the best xx

Thanks in advance

if you are happy feeding alfalfa then swapping to pellets seems the easy option. I'd be adding linseed instead though I think. Its got lots of benefits on top of adding condtion.

Hi I’m Dun,
I feed linseed meal as well as pink mash they all get omega vitality and babies and broodmares get limestone flour. I was a bit on the fence with pink mash but it’s more natural than coconut 😂 I dropped sugarbeet this year and it’s not made a difference so that’s one less bag of feed 😂.

I think also when they are changing teeth it is uncomfortable to eat and if you have one that’s a bit funny eating then it doesn’t take long before they drop weight in this weather x

Thank you it’s alway nice to discuss things with others as im on my own here and mainly cob pet owners (not a read or saying that’s bad just a different type of horse)

Anyway thank you I was thinking that was probably the better idea x

I've had brilliant results with pink mash on some of mine. Some people don't like it as its soya, but I find that as its the husks, its not the same as soya oil etc.

Out of curiosity, what are the ingredients in the Topline and Shine you don't want to feed?
Hello, nothing major I just would rather not feed so much straw they can eat there beds but feel if I’m feeding them I’d rather not bulk out with straw and then eat something with more nutritional value and the rapeseed oil is not a favourite but nothing major or I’d not be feeding it just prefer a grass then a straw based chop 😊

Yes this was one of my worries feeding it but the results speak for themselves my sister stud had problems last winter with some very old mares not doing that well so I recommend pink mash and the change was amazing now they feed it over winter months this year mores doing much better x

Omega rice is quite conditioning but you don't have to feed loads of it.
Thank you I might try that on the more stress head mare I’m thinking she could probably benefit from a gut balancer. Why did I get back into tb’s the AQH has spoilt me and made me forget the difference ha ha

I really like Dengie Meadow Grass with Oil and herbs, super soft feeling with some extra calories from the oil which my two slightly hard keepers can need over the winter, they also do a lite version however it's not as soft or palatable
