Im thinking of clipping my horse for summer but have no idea on what clippers to buy? Planning on clipping my hairy cob, but keeping her feathers for time being. Dont want to spend hundreds but do want some decent clippers.

I have listers. I’ve had them 15+ years I used them a lot the first 10 years but less so now. They are still fine though. So I’d definitely buy again if they did break. I don’t really have anything to compare them to though as they have lasted so well!

I have HD Roamer rechargeable clippers, which I have had for around 7 or 8 years. I use them quite a bit as my big draft ( not in the pic) needs clipping out all year round. So good not to be juggling with an electric cable!
Thank you, I’ll have a look at some!

I have gone cordless and have Wahl KMC+ for legs and Masterclip HD Roamers for body. Both are great, but as a consequence I'm selling my Lister Star. They will be cheap as I'm keeping the bag and probably the medium blades (there is a pair of unused fine blades). PM if interested. They would be great on a summer coat or fine coated horse in the winter but I don't rate them for a thick hairy winter coat. It depends what you want. I'm a pretty rubbish clipper (hence needed a smaller pair for legs) so it may be my lack of skill that gave me a poor experience with the Lister Star on a heavy coat

I agree, my Lister Stars get very hot quickly, would not buy again.

I also have Heiniger Xplorers and clip with the coarse (3mm?) blades. Just had mine serviced and the bloke apparently told my other half that he considers them the best. I also have a hairy cob and did buy the MD Roamers, which were woefully inadequate for his dense coat (I should have gone for the HD!). I did an all over clip yesterday for the first time (he normally gets a blanket style) and discovered that the bath the previously day was nowhere near thorough enough, but my poor Xplorers soldiered on. I probably could have done it all with one battery, but once I realised I hadn't bathed him thoroughly enough I decided to switch 3/4 the way through. They do get hot, but this is a consequence of my poor bathing I suspect, as they don't get hot when I clip frequently (so the shampoo is more effective on his very greasy coat).

I have an ancient set of corded Listers that still work brilliantly, however I did recently treat myself to a pair of cordless Heiniger Saphirs as I have tiny hands and find doing the underside and fiddly bits of my small narrow chested pony a bit of a PITA with the big ones. You could do a full clip with the Saphirs but might take a while (and horse needs to be very clean) so I usually do the top half of the horse where te coats thicker with the Listers, or if I need to do a mid winter bib clip but couldnt wash them properly.
