What colour Hi Viz do you wear?

I have a set of Pink leg wraps, martingale, tabbard and hat cover in pink. I used these on my mare, but now I have bought a gelding.

I'm considering swapping for a green set as my gelding is light palomino and I doubt yellow will stand out on him. Or should I keep the pink? I suppose its about safety not the fact i'm being teased for making my tough boy wear pink! :D
 
Mouse wears a pink reflective sheet and pink reflectors on his browband and reins and he doesnt seem to mind ;) i always wear either a yellow tabbard or my big yellow coat :)

In the summer I wear pink hat band and yellow tabard , In winter I swap tabard for pink equisafety winter coat (so warm)! Pony has pink/yellow leg wraps :)
 
Orange to match my horse! In winter he has a yellow exercise sheet and he has pink bands for his legs and bridle. Bit of a mis mash really but I figure it increases the chance of people seeing us (even if they are thinking how dreadful we look!)
Sorry to break this to you but pale palamino geldings don't look tough anyway. I call the one at our yard princess sparkle because he's waaaaaaaaay too pretty to be a boy!

Hi viz is designed to be just that, highly visible, whatever the colour, the colour of your horse makes no difference to what other road users see.

I doubt your gelding gives a fig about what colour you're dressed in.
 
Yellow because I think it stands out the most. That said I really ought to mix it up because I am mostly off road and need it more to stand out when I come off so thinking more of orange. I am just not a girly girl so cannot cope with pink
 
I think yellow is the most visible but then again anything is better than dark bay camouflaged against the trees on a grey day! I'm sure he won't notice, at least you have the excuse that you used to have a mare ;-)

Hes a Haflinger so quite a stocky hunky man :p
 
Polite everything. We ride down the high street on a busy day and it's awesome how many pedestrians stop us to say how nice it is to see a police horse out patrolling! We were also asked to help with a road accident once :confused:
ETS: I have a 14hh Welshie.
 
We keep the horses beside the police college and beside a race yard - we are always being asked if they are one or the other. Fair enough for my 16.2 tb but my friend rides a 15.1 welshy :D
 
I have always worn yellow. One evening driving home from the yard in the fading light I came across two horses coming down our lane, one in pink and one in yellow and have to say the rider in the pink did not stand out as well as the yellow. I was shocked because had always thought they would be the same, but from a drivers point of view in that light the yellow stood out.
 
It depends. IMO yellow/green doesn't stand out particularly well if its early spring/summer and there's a lot of yellowey greeney coloured vegetation & grass around.

Also if you've got a lot of fields with rapeseed growing which is bright yellow, then you maybe wouldn't tend to stand out so much if wearing yellow hi-viz??

So I alternate: usually in spring/summer I'd wear pink - have got a tabard; in the winter months all my cooler weather gear is in the yellow, so that's what I'd wear.
 
I made my gelding wear pink ;) He was dun so I wasn't sure whether yellow would stand out but it did, though I bought the pink set first so he wore that for years! Mare is dun too but don't feel the 'guilt' when I dress her in pink haha

Now I have two hi-viz outfits, one pink & one yellow. We have an exercise sheet (summer weight & winter weight!), leg bands, a coat/tabard and hat band for me. Also have the neck bands but don't use them as often as everything else which I never ride without.
They're both very good and we can be seen from miles away but the yellow is definitely brighter so I usually go to that if it's winter or gloomy / raining, sway more towards the pink in bright light as it stands out from the hedgerows/yellow fields around me at this time of year. Sometimes mix & match! I have a polite tabard somewhere too but have lost it :o


Orange is supposed to be the most effective colour but I don't want to buy myself another set!
 
Summer: Pink tabard/waistcoat
Winter: yellow flouro police-type insulated jacket
All year round: yellow flouro boots on horse if on the roads at all.

I have just got myself a lovely orange jacket tho, but the temps need to cool down a bit before I put that one on as its a winter one :)

RE hi-viz I have a mix of yellow and pink which works well as the yellow is very eye catching in most situations but the pink is better in bright sunlight.

RE your Haffy - I know that I'm being pedantic, but it is genetiaclly impossible for Haffys to be palomino as the breed does not have the cream gene. They do however have the pangare gene which is what lightens their chestnut coats.
 
yellow and pink or my chestnut gelding :) yellow quarter sheet, leg wraps, tabbard/coat, bridle pieces and pink martingale, rein pieces and hat band (not that i know where it is) :o

i think yellow stands out the most but i was advised to mix and match to make them better seen in different lights :)

I do love a haffie OP, maybe you could treat us to a picture of your lovely boy with or without his butch pink outfit?!x

I'm terrible - I really shouldn't be wound up by it but I have colour accuracy issues. :o

ETA. I had to really restrain myself recently when someone called my chestnut gelding a pally.


I do love Haffies and second your photo idea. :D
 
From my experiences of seeing other riders and cyclists whilst in the car I now wear orange, I always see the orange/red hi viz first :)
 
I have a mixture of pink and yellow for my mare. I always think it's better to have a mixture just incase one of the colours isn't picked up as well. Bella is grey so in the sunshine without Hi-Viz it might be hard to see her so I don't take any chances.

Yes I know that, but he is really light so it was easier to say than chestnut, which he currently isnt.
