Thanks!

I don't know about informative - maybe I DIDN'T misspend my youth while all my pals enjoyed their 'normal' hobbies

But only last month a judge friend judged 4 breeds at one show, he is only passed for one and the show secretary gave him a 5 minutes "lesson" in what to lok for in the other 3 breeds for the day!!! Yes this was a KC affiliated show.

My Mum has an Irish Water Spaniel, whilst she was at Crufts with him (doing Discover Dogs) the judge for what would have been her class, came over to ask what an IWS should look like!!

also HH, Klodo and Utz are stunning and personally they are the type I would like to see winning BOB at crufts next year, there are many GSD's out there that look like them today why is it they won't get a look in a far as showing goes?
And I know I've already asked but what is it about the 'slope' and angulation that meant they became excentuated? What purpose to do the dog did it serve, I'm guessing it is or was seen as a sign of a good dog for a reason?

There are dogs like Klodo and Utz around today, but they are no longer typical of the standard.
There are many dogs I would like to see winning but don't - in the show ring, it's not about personal preference, it is about adhering to the standard. I could go into any breed ring and say 'I like that one' - it wouldn't mean it was a good example of the breed.

TBH I don't hold Crufts in much esteem anyway and never have done - for me, the Sieger show is the most important event in the calendar and an event we in the GSD community over here should try, at least in small part, to emulate - judging the WHOLE dog - temperament, physical soundess, working ability, drive etc - and no animal getting into the top level without good hips, elbows, eyes, haem results and DNA testing.

Regarding the slope in the backline, from the back to the croup, I seem to recall it had something to do with increasing the rear drive in movement, making the dog stronger and faster.
I can consult a few books later, when I find them!

Bloomin heck, where have all these posts come from

. Sorry to abandon you to answer all the questions H-H, just come in from work and as its my daughters 21st today we're going out for a meal later after doing the animals so won't be on here. That evolution link is really interesting, will try and find a pic of Granit H-H and post that on here at some point.

No worries MM - although Ridebumble and SpringfallsStud are for a right kicking when I see them on here again

I would love to see Granit

speaking of important dogs....
You've been far too modest so far!

[quoteApologies to you and HH that I dont like GSD toplines BTW

MM may remember a fellow columnist on the GSD Weekly who described all German GSDs as 'greyhounds'

Bloody hell I would think NOT - my greyhounds have far better toplines than the pics on this thread

IMHO of course

OK sorry, sorry I apologise to GSD lovers again (MM and HackingHack), I am very sure they are capable of doing lots of work but I just cant get my head around it

This seems to be the longest thread in AAD for some time, unless you count the ETT breeder of course

It's exceptionally long for a post in here Shroomy! It is an emotive subject though and I think we are all enjoying learning more about the breed.

*whispers* plus its nice to give the gsd contingent a chance to do a bit of prattling bless 'em!
