I'm trying to find something to put in my field to provide some sort of shade. At the mo they have nothing to get out of the sun so we are bringing them into the stables but this isn't always possible. I have looked for shelters but for proper ones ur talking £1000+, there are some tarpaulin types but still a bit pricey, looked up parasols which is a possibility but thought might blow away. There's natural hedges rows but nothing that is gonna grow within a week, anyone think of anything else cos I'm stuck!

Hmm, tricky one! I am lucky that all our fields have lots of trees in, and the only one that doesn't has an old shed.

can you build your own shelter? Might be cheaper than buying one ready made and you could do something fairly basic with posts set into the ground and a roof (tin?) I'd be a bit nervous of anything that they could knock over and get stuck in, horses being the self-destruct machines that they are!

Know what u mean. only problem is we are at a livery yard and I think the owner is going to want something 'aesthetically pleasing'. If it was just down to me I would have knocked something up ages ago! The tent/tarpaulin types are looking the best bet at the mo, someone else has one up but their field is tucked away out of sight. Might have to see if he'll move us to a different field where we can have one. I feel some sweet talking coming up... oh how I hate having to kiss ar$e!!!!
