I personally like making up feeds, I have no idea why! So I don't mind adding bits and bobs and soaking for my boys feeds.. But I know some people that hate is so literally chuck the simplest things into a bucket; scoop mix, scoop chaff for example..

My 17yo 18hh ISH has:

. scoop chaff,
. scoop veteran mix,
. scoop barley rings (in warm water for 2 mins in winter, and cold in summer.. dont need to be soaked but I prefer it)
. garlic,
. turmeric,
. spearmint (to make it taste nice so he'll eat it he is very fussy)
. and then I chop him some carrots to put on top
and then the same again but without barley rings and in smaller quantities for his breakfast.

What feeds do your lot have?

TB has - 1 scoop conditioning cubes
1/4 Scoop micronised linseed
1/2 scoop chaff
1/2 Soaked scoop sugarbeet
100g coligon
2tsps Tumeric

ISH - 1/4 scoop cool mix
1/4 scoop chaff
1/4 scoop micronised linseed

Section A - Nothing cos she is fat!

I love making feeds! I don't know why but I always end up doing everyones no bother lol. Always gave the ponies half a scoop of coolmix and a handful of chaff with sugarbeet in the winter when I was younger because I didn't understand the different feeds etc, now my 9yo 16.1hh ISH gets a scoop of coolmix, scoop of conditioning cubes, scoop of sugarbeet (I have small scoops), handful of chaff, garlic and a blop of cod liver oil. She also loves loves looooves white bread (but not brown bread) so gets a slice or two thrown in every now and again as a treat:)

I used to add a little boiling water In my old geldings feed to make it slightly warm on the freezing cold winter mornings and nights. I wish I could add all those thing, sounds good enough for me to eat lol but stick to basic. Plus I do not have time to faff with all those extras.

My 7yo tb mare has
1 scoop chaff
1/3 high fibre cubes
1/4 cool mix
2 (small scoops) equivite body builder
2 (small scoops) super calm.

Per meal my girl gets:
1 med scoop Spillers senior maintenance mix
1 Stubbs scoop Spillers senior chaff
1 handful Spillers light balancer
1 med scoop Kwikibeet (in winter)
Then her extras:
1 diddy scoop garlic
1/2 diddy scoop D-itch (sweet-itch)
1/2 diddy scoop Maxavita maxaflex (arthritis)
1/2 diddy scoop Maxavita maxahoof (her feet just won't grow fast enough!)

All heated up with warm water or steamed during winter, she's not spoilt at all :)

Scoop of fast fibre
Scoop of speedibeet
Linseed in the evenings too
Might get a splash of hot water if I have the inclination to boil the kettle.

We are mean owners, ours get a handful of unmolassed, sugar-free chaff and a scoop of Fast Fibre split between them. And they are still too fat lol.

I use the tiny little tub trugs (the ones a few inches across) to make up a weeks worth of supplements at a time as they stack up beautifully in an old lidded tub, I find it all very relaxing!

My 11.2 Welsh sec A gets:

1 small scoop speedibeet
1 small scoop conditioning cubes
1 small scoop alfalfa chaff
half a scoop of a mix of 1 part brewers yeast and 2 parts micronised linseed
balancer
Baileys Outshine

plus a mind boggling selection of herbs and supplements that will have many of you fainting in shock so I wont list those

12.2 Welshie gets:

soaked grass nuts
balancer
half a scoop of a mix of 1 part brewers yeast and 2 parts micronised linseed
Magnitude

Major has

1 scoop (pre soaked) fast fibre
1 scoop high fibre chaff
1 mug lo cal balancer

Oaks has

about I don't know 1/4 scoop (after soaking) fast fibre
And 1/4 scoop high fibre chaff
1 mug lo cal balancer.

Both have ad lib hay.

Shire x
1 scoop alfalfa
Small scoop build up mix
Half scoop beat
Handful of carub crumb

ID yearling
Scoop spillers youngstock
Handful beat
Half scoop chaff

Nothing for podgy cobby

Nothing overly interesting but gets the job done

Mine have two cupfuls of low cal balancer. I even stopped the chaff as the feeds were so tiny! My friend is riding my horse for the moment she has an old retired TB that needs food shovelling in it like coal into a steam train, she can't believe how little they get. They are still on the fat side!

I love making feeds up too :D

I usually make a weeks worth at a time and bag it up though as OH will then tip it in a bucket and add water while i start mucking out

My two have:
250g speedibeet
250g grassnuts
1 x cup of micronised linseed
2 x scoops of diamond omega
1 tsp of salt
1 tbsp of mint
glucosamine tablet for the TB
a few chopped up carrots/sprouts/cabbage etc

Add a few jugs of water and leave to soak

then i add a large double handful of graze on and mix before serving :)

My 16h mare has a scoop Hi-fi lite, 3/4 scoop dried grass, small shovel scoop of nuts and speedi beet and linseed and 2-3 carrots twice a day and connie gets a smaller amount of hi-fi , grass and nuts and a couple of carrots.

15hh 7yo native type (I say type because breeding is unknown, he came from Ireland last year, was told he's a connie x but I think he looks more like a NF x with something which might be connie, might be cob, might be both, might be something else!). Not a particularly good doer and even on 24/7 good grass for 6 months, got to the right weight but never fat. Loses weight easily when cold, stressed or not given hard feed (despite ad lib hay.. can't feed haylage, makes him loopy).

He gets 3/4 Stubbs scoop of Dengie Healthy Tummy and 3/4 Stubbs scoop (when wet) Speedibeet split between a morning and evening feed. At night he gets a little scoop of Magox and a mug of micronised linseed. When he needs more condition, I increase the linseed. I can't give him more than 1 rounded/ big scoop of Healthy Tummy otherwise he turns into a fire breathing dragon because I can't work him enough - despite the fact he is meant to have FOUR scoops for his size!! :-S

Mine have a handful of happy hoof, a handful of nuts and a blob of sugar beet. Plus scoop of multi vits, joint supplement and a hoof supplement. If I'm feeling generous a carrot chopped up.

Scoop of hifi apple, cup of topspec lite balancer, scoop of sugar beet, and salt. Occasionally carrots on top when we have them. Twice a day. Nothing complex, she doesn't need it!

Twice a day:
Handful of molasses free hifi
Handful of basic pony nuts
Magnitude

I feel quite lucky that my 17hh TBx needs so little hard feed to maintain weight, but he does get 4 medium haynets every night so I think that's what keeps him looking well!

For his dinner (he gets same at breakfast just a bit smaller portion wise) he gets:

1 stubbs scoop apple chaff
1 scoop fibrebeet (never tried this before but he loves it, and always licks his bowl clean which is a first!)
1/4 cup lo cal balancer
1 scoop garlic

He also has carrots in his dodecahedron overnight and ad-lib hay.

16 yo shire x, semi-retired
1/3 scoop happy hoof
1/3 scoop speedibeet
Measure equimins tip top
Measure cortaflex

6 yo ex racer tb, light work
Scoop d&h build up mix
Scoop speedibeet
Cup of micronised linseed

6 yo ex racer tb, not ridden
Scoop Saracen releve
Scoop speedibeet

My old girl's dry foods are made up a week in advance so I don't have to faff around with supplements, others are done daily. Speedibeet soaked freshly every day.

I like to keep it simple, especially as the mixes are already...well...mixed!

Urmmm, little horsie gets half a scoop of pony nuts, as I can't get her to either eat anything else, or any more, although she needs a bigger feed. Lives out, just moved to winter field and hope she fills out on fresher grass soon. Also gets 2 wedges of hay.

Little pony gets a handful of pony nuts cos little horsie gets fed. She doesn't need it but would be mortified if she didn't get a feed bowl to lick round!! Also gets hay, because other has hay.

Kia barefoot oldie in light work

1 x round scoop of spillers conditioning fibre
1 x round scoop of soaked mixed alfalfa cubes and ERS/conditioning cubes
1 x measure scoop of linseed meal
1 x measuring scoop of mixed turmeric/cinnamon/glucosamine
1 x round scoop of beetpulp

He's getting this three times a day.

16:3hh mare good doer gets:

Brekkie:

Two handfuls of applechaff
Half a measuring scale tub (!!) of Bailey's no.14 think it works out as 1 mug - can't remember off the top of my head - worked it all out last year!)
10mg of garlic powder

Dinner:

Stubbs scoop of bran
About 2-3 scoops of apple chaff - basically two giant double hand's worth of it!
Half a scale tub thing of Baileys no.14 again
20mg of garlic powder
Ad lib hay
1kg of carrots in her treat ball

On basis we mostly have fatties and even though it's late in the year and everyone else has mud and we have green fields. Ours have countrywide value chaff and nuts. They love it, with an extra bit of bran to teach them about it if they are ever poorly and need to eat it. (Recent call in from the vets shown they should all eat it even though it's boring)
