just pondering and being nosy really! i'm very lucky i can just ride in plain snaffle, cavesson bridle and gp saddle, saddle cloth and thats it pretty much. was thinking bout getting one of those nice 5 point breastplates, but actually, will it make any difference?? some folk on my yard have breastplates, saddle pads, sheep skin pads the whole lot. whats essential to you?x

Just the same really, anything else martingales breatplates sheepskin ect is just based on if the horse needs it..or fancy saddle pads ect if i just fancy them

A saddle, bridle, bit and numnah that fits are essential to me. I prefer thin wool numnahs, wide girths, cavesson nosebands and snaffle bits with a lozenge. I occasionally use a running martingale when jumping.

well, if I needed to, I could make do with bog-standard snaffle, cavesson, some kind of saddle, girth... call that it.

But for whatever reason, I usually use double jointed snaffle, loose-ish flash, breastplate with martingale (because I don't own just a martingale!) for jumping, and boots/bandages of some sort because horse brushes + overreach boots because he's young and often gets his legs in a knot!

Oh, and a roma saddle pad.... (like a poly pad but nicer shaped, not a fan of polypads tbh) or just a normal numnah if need be...

Saddle, bridle, usually with a liverpool bit, girth, numnah and overreach boots, he is very short backed and always wears them.
Oh and quite often a girth sleeve as he's prone to rubs.

for the mare - bridle, martigale, saddle, saddle cloth and half pad (saddlers recommendation due to thin skinned mare fitted accordingly) girth and front brushing boots.

for the lad - bridle, saddle, girth and nuumed saddlecloth with half sheepskin lining. (overreach boots on 24/7 as has lateral extensions)

My essential tack, eg what I use for everything with my mare is a snaffle bridle, a KK lozenged bit (although "essentially", any fitting bit will do

) a saddle and a girth. Everything else is nice to have and in some cases adds to safety (breastplate etc) but isnt essential

I like to play around with tack and bits to work out which suits each horse. The horse I am bringing on for someone has only been with me for two weeks and is already on his 3rd bit, I'll keep changing them until I find one he seems happy in.

For share horse:

Bridle, w french link snaffle but w/out nose band. (I've never yet risked riding him in a head collar but occasionally hop on for a very sedate bareback pootle.)

More usually: the above but with running martingale (excitable arab - I've tasted his ears without!), GP saddle, girth, and numnah (plus spare for going in the wash).

I also use his flash (done up super loosely as I don't think he needs it) and boots on the fronts (as and when owner thinks we need for jumping & hacking.)

Oh, and Hi Viz for bridle, legs and tail.

I sometimes ride in just a headcollar with spare webbing reins attatched (usually if I forget the bridle!) and saddle etc.

A breastplate is essential for me as he has a flybite scar just behind his girth so it needs kepts forwards so it doesn't rub.

Saddle, bridle...actually that is ALL the tack I possess

Oh, I have a saddlepad too but that goes on everything.

Saddle, sheepskin numnah (as have a CC saddle), breastplate (as saddle slips back), bridle with NS starter bit, and boots all round!

I tend to ride all my 3 in brushing boots all round - youngster cos he still gets his legs a bit confused, old girl is just a bit clumsy and middle one is just very precious!
Youngster and arab both have sheepskin numnahs or half sheepskin pads almost all the time, youngster because he is in a CC saddle which fits well but saddler suggested sheepskin, and arab because he gets rub marks from normal numnahs - had 3 seperate saddlers check and approve fit of three different saddles (original GP then swapped for a dressage and a jump) and all agreed its just that he has quite a fine coat and not the saddles at all.
I also love the lozenge snaffles, also fussy about girths (elastic at both ends or throughout never just one end) and reins as hate really thick rubber reins!
Actually I'm really picky aren't i?!? Having said that buy a lot on ebay and very rarely buy things new!

snaffle bridles and gp saddles & saddle cloths for all of them. for my TB a flash for schooling and tendon & overreach boots. and equichaps for the field!
