What do you do when you are bored at the yard ?

What do you do when you have been left at the yard all day ?
Normally i would:
-poo pick
-groom
-tack up
-ride
-untack
-feed him
-rug on
-turn him out
-sweep
-clean tack
-fill haynets
-sometimes even clean
(bare in mind i am at a livery yard so i can't groom other horses, ride other horses etc. Also i don't much out because instead of a stable we have field shelters with tack rooms so they don't really use the shelter as a bed therefore we don't use shavings.)

Please tell me other ideas :)

I do this. I have a caravan positioned so I can sit on the bench seat and see all of my field at once, its really interesting watching the animals interact as if you arent there :)
 
Bored at the yard?? Not possible :p (I'm the opposite end of the scale and usually rushing to get everything done).

Sounds from your OP like you get dropped off and picked up though, so may well end up with spare time (apologies if I'm wrong there).

If I've got spare time, I sometimes spend a while reading horsey books, choosing exercises to do when riding/lungeing. This is best done with a cuppa and biscuits :) Then I get the horse and go and do them! Sometimes I'll map out the ginger one's work for a week - a bit like a training schedule. I like to know what I'm doing, otherwise I end up pottering around the arena meaninglessly. Building obstacle courses/scary jump courses is always good fun, although it's a pain putting it all away again afterwards.


I practise bandaging etc. as well - I am generally neat but not very quick. Especially when I put them on only to discover at the very end they are upside down :rolleyes: or worse, inside out :o:p. I am lucky that Ginger will stand for hours, literally, whilst I practise - but I know I might not always be that lucky with other horses! So I want to be able to get them on neatly and accurately but ASAP. I also, if VERY bored, will practise my plaiting. But I hate this so usually stop after three or four plaits/one or two attempts on his tail.

What else... er, clean grooming kit? Organise/tidy grooming kit/whenever you keep your rugs etc.? Revise BHS stages (or similar) and practise the practical elements? That's another reason I keep practising my bandaging etc.
 
Come on here on my mobile :) Google stuff that might be wrong with my horse to reassure myself its not - is that weird? If phone dies then i'll clean but usually I bring stuff home to clean in front of the tv :D
 
Our yard has piles of old magazines so I'm often found with a cuppa sitting on a bucket in my boys stable while he's munching his haylage :) If not doing that then there's usually someone else around and we're not known locally as the "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" for nothing :eek::o:D (our yard is on a bridleway so anyone who rides past normally finds us all at the picnic bench by the fence drinking tea and gassing!).
 
I would sweep my feed room out and dust the stable.. Move feed bins around, then if it's a nice day go and sunbathe/lie in the sun with my pony. She never strays too far and sometimes lies down next to me and we cuddle together! Love her with my heart and soul!
