What do you do with old riding boots

I just bought myself some nice tall boots so have no need for the old ones I suffered through for many years. All they’re doing right now is taking up space and reminding me where all the scars on the back of my knee came from, but I also don’t want to chuck them straight in the bin as they’re still in pretty good condition from having been regularly polished.

Do people buy secondhand riding boots? I know most people won’t touch used footwear, but is there any chance for more expensive boots..?

Put them on ebay people buy some that are in my opinion fit for the bin but they seem to sell, or give them away I just gave my old pair of MH riding boots to a friend one boot just needed a zip they were really old but still plenty of life in them, I would have kept them but they are too big for me now and I have a new pair to break in not looking forward to that much.

I bought mountain walking boots the wrong brand / size and sold them on e bay. The only Item I have ever sold, though I have bought plenty.
I gave away OH's riding gear to someone on this forum. I guess it depends on whether you are gifting or selling.
I was warned not to walk round London in my posh riding boots. But what size are yours?

My local tack shop sells secondhand stuff but won't take boots without zips (proper riding boots, not country boots) as 'No one buys those'
I was surprised - I only buy zipless boots and can't be unique

Thanks all, looks like ebay it is!

Would have to double check but around size 6 I suspect.

I grew up walking to RS lessons in London wearing my boots with no problem at all so that comment intrigues me. I always found that breeches were more trouble, wearing them unfortunately encouraged a lot of cat calling.

It ruins them as well I literally just ride in mine I don't ever leave them on to do anything, the pair I gave away were 9 years old and I had replaced zips on them several times and they were worn but still fine to use and so comfy.

6 will be too small for me, I am afraid. I need 40.

I think walking is supposed to ruin them? May be by stretching the ankle?
But walking to a riding lesson is nothing like the walking OH and I used to do in London.

I dont even wear my long boots to ride , if my weight is above a certain point. And I still have 4 lb to lose after Covid lockdown.

Completely misread your first post - I thought you meant that the risk was someone was going to mug you based off your footwear!

Never knew that you weren’t supposed to walk in them, but looks like I’ve gotten that information just in time to save my new boots.
