What do you do with Rossettes if not a 1st/2nd?

My most cherished is a 3rd. My first ever rosette going back to 1977 in musical poles.
Last year was a good year, all reds and blues plus my daughter got reserve champion over the whole year.
I have kept nearly all but for my daughters birthday we had a couple of pony days with her friends, gymkhana on foot etc so awarded some of them as prizes.

Maybe if I'd been to hundreds of shows I would have a different answer, but I did buy a special box to keep all my rossettes and show photos in from the local shows and sponsored rides. I love all the memories and it even contains 2 delicate small rossettes from my first show when I was about 7! I love them even now.

1st, 2nd, 3rd are hung up. The rest are in a box in my wardrobe. Not in the bin though!

They've all got the class, date and horse's name written on so each is a memory :)

i have kept my first rosettes (a clear round and a 6th) as they are special to me, i keep my 1st/2nd places hung up and and any others that are special, such as the rosettes from the first show with youngsters etc.
any others i recycle for the children in the riding school.

i also write on the back of mine: horses name, date, class and the name of the place i got it :)

If they have meaning like a first round on a new horse etc I will keep them!! But if I have loads from one show I will donate them back!! I would never throw them away as they represent my blood sweat and tears even if its a 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th lol I have a beautiful 8th place rosette that a lot of work must have gone into making so its hanging on my bedroom wall!!

The only one I'm not thrilled with is his 'Special Pony' one for coming last in a ridden show. :( Makes him sound impaired!

Hahaha! I keep chuckling every time I read this :P (sorry)

I keep all of my rosettes, they are in boxes in my room, except for my only ever trophy which is on top of my wardrobe.

Each rosette has the date, class, pony/horse, percentage/faults written on the back... I couldn't throw them away, they hold too many memories & I don't get many! Then again I also have photos of my past ponies & my horse all over my room (they take pride of place over one's of my friends :P )

I normally hang them up in the office. If I've got a really special one And a nice photo of the day they stay together on display. I don't tend to take the normal Bsja ones though from local show centres, and some places allow you a couple
Of quid back for returning the rosette!

I still have my very first ones, these were hand made at a local show. They are all kept information written on the back as to what the class was. As other people have said have got all the clear rounds and the specials and even the consolation ones for those of us who did not win anything at the show. I am very proud of all of them and treasure all the stories behind them. I find what the OP said as very sad they are all special does not matter what colour they are.

keep them all, and my daughters, lot of blood sweat and tears goes into each one!!

This!!

Every single one is kept, with the details written on the back. Every single outing has a huge amount of work and prep in it, from the endless schooling in the rain and dark, fittening hacks, to the scrub up and plait on the day. Too much blood, sweat and tears go into each one just to bin it lol! iI would think someone a bit spoilt to just chuck 'lower' ones in the bin. If they are above something so lowly as a third then they should have made more effort to prepare rather than have a huff lol!

I not only keep mine, but write on the back the date, the class, the name of the horse, my name, and my score - e.g. dressage percentage, or jumping faults, etc. I was encouraged to do this as a child by my mother - I have boxes of rosettes and some very fond memories. I'd never throw a single one away.

If you don't want it, do what other people suggest on this forum - give it back to the show organisers and ask them to use it for someone else. A friend of mine used to own a rosette company and they take a lot of work to make, plus are expensive for shows to buy to give as prizes - I always appreciate a venue that makes an effort and spends money on lovely rosettes, it's a real sense of achievement to receive them.

Also, some of my lower placings have meant more than my wins - e.g. coming 5th in a dressage class on a horse that doesn't enjoy dressage, or 7th in a Hunter Trial against some very fast competition, or 6th out of over 40 competitors in a horse trials! Much better than 1st out of two competitors! x

I "Borrowed" my uncles Edwardian display cabinet for mine and they're all in there, down to every last clear round and special rosette. It may not be for HOYS or Hickstead, but every one has been worked for.

I keep all of mine!
In NZ we get ribbons for showing instead of frillies

So the ones from the lease ponies are in a box, and the ones from the two horses I've owned'own are sewn onto a blanket, they each have their own blanket :)
The sashes (four - 2 chap and 2 reserves) and the rosettes are displayed, each time we get new ones they go up in the sitting room until we get some more, then they go into my bedroom.
We have quite a few, we tend to get fourths. If I only kept the red and blue I'd only have three! All red mind, 2 I'm super proud of, his last prelim level test and the amatuer novice musical from a regional champ show, and 1 we only got cause we were the only ones in the test! (And it was atrocious lol)

I still have my childhood ones somewhere in a box, somewhere...not sure if they're here, or at my parents' house!

The ones from since I got back into riding are all still up on the wall. I suspect, however, that an alternative storage solution will have to be found soon-ish.

Here are the ones from riding school horses. They are banned to the hallway, but they're up to remind me that I don't always completely suck. There are 44 of them, which includes 2 championship ones and 13 1sts. Some mean more than others----the DCs over 1m, for example, rather than a championship in a class of, err, one ( :o ). I suspect all these will move into a box soon, as I've run out of room in the hallway.

In the dining room are the Spooky Pony's rosettes, in the 3.5 years that I've had him. So far, there are few enough that they can all go on the wall. Many of these are for silly things like Best Mane and Tail (he has a fabulous tail), or 5th of five (the riding club ones), but some I treasure, like the 1st and the long-tailed 2nd beside it in the moddle of the bottom row: his best placing in dressage (N, 64.8%), and his only showjumping one. Sure, it was a cross-pole class with three people in it, but given our history with A&E, I was very proud to get him round it! :D :D Once these outgrow the wall, I'll probably keep only the really special ones out.

For everyone who keeps them in bin bags, be careful, i took all mine down from the upstairs hall when i was decorating a few years ago, there were, some from when i was about 10, with pictures with cups, shields etc and some medals, in the the same bag.
Somewhere along the line they ended up being chucked out with all the other bin bags and i mever noticed until it was to late, i was gutted, i felt like id lost great mementos aqquired at different times in my life, with different ponies and horses, while the memories are still there, the tangible stuff sadly isnt.

I have a few hanging up(these will change as and when I get 'prettier'ones lol), however most are shoved in shoe boxes and chucked on top of the wardrobe!:o

I used to keep all of mine as a child, with my Championship rosettes and sashes on display in my room. When I started running out of space I sorted through and kept 1st-4th, with the odd 5th/6th/special which were pretty or from certain shows. Before I went to uni I had another clear out and decided to throw out all but 1st/2nd and championship, as I just had too many (for a good few years I competed 2 SJ ponies, 2/3 shows a month, 3 classes per pony per show, usually placed in most classes). It seemed ridiculous to have 4 large boxes of rosettes under my bed, that I never looked at. All of my small trophies for individual classes are on display around the hall, although none have ever been engraved. I would have liked to be able to buy some of the championship trophies my ponies won several times, as it makes me sad to think that their names will have been replaced now.

Have to admit with Murphy I often don't keep rosettes, they tend to just get left in the land rover, and I now swap the small trophies for £5, which sounds awful, but there is no space for them at home.

I still have my first ever rosette - a third in a Working Hunter Pony, from 1969, I was ten and my pony was 20! And yes, rosettes had been invented all those years ago! :D
I have every one, from that date on until now. Some are very flash 'name' rosettes (I used to do a lot of SJ) but the more recent ones are just as precious, from our local family-type shows. Lots of lovely memories to visit later in life, when I'm too old and knackered to do it anymore :D (next week??? :D )
