What do you expect when pay instructor or YO to work/train your horse

Whats the general opinion on this: If you pay your instructor or YO to work/train your horse, do you expect them to spend the designated time you have paid for working your horse alone for the duration or do you expect it to be in a group lesson they are teaching and participating in at the same time? I would have thought they would spend the time just with your horse, but perhaps expecting too much? Paid my YO for an hours session of jumping my horse, but she was in a lesson situation with 3 other people, feel like I would have been paying for less? She didn't end up jumping him anyway as he was slightly lame.

i would expect one on one session!!!! and demand my money back if it didnt happen!

I would do it one to one, or give a huge discount (and have told the owner previously to make sure they were happy with it)

But actually I wouldn't have charged you anything. If I took a clients horse out and it was lame I wouldn't work it at all and would put it back in stable/field and prob wouldn't charge client a penny.

Weird thing for your YO to do. I would expect the trainer to devote their time to the horse and, my trainer being absolutely lovely, would not put a time limit on the session, so if there was a problem she would work until it was resolved (she is equally generous with lessons!).

Like other YO's - I'd be working it 1-1 unless previously discussed with client.
If it was lame, then no charge would be made.

When I've had my instructor school my horse in the past it has been 1 on 1 with my mare in the school! I pay her what I would of paid if I had a lesson with me riding! So I would not be happy if my horse was standing in the school whilst she was teaching others!

Mine is one-on-one.

If there were others there she would charge less.

If the horse was lame, she would get off and not charge.

To be fair she didn't charge me as she couldn't ride him, sorry I know I didn't make that clear. However, its the fact it would have been her teaching a group and participating that I didn't think was very fair for the fact I thought I was paying for 1 hour with her working/ training my horse. She did not charge me any less than last week when she worked him on his own. I feel like she is taking the mickey slightly, but wonder sometimes if I over react slightly?

For me it would depend on the price, what has been discussed, and also what the horse needs to work on.

My instructor usually works my horse on his own for a good schooling session, but sometimes she will take him for a hack or her boyfriend will long rein him. We have discussed this, and she knows that I am happy with whatever she chooses to do with him as I know she has his best interests at heart.

I would be happy for my horse to be worked in a group, as he is young and this would give him experience of working around other horses. It would depend whether your horse needs this type of experience though and whether he is already used to working in a group.
