What do you feed your natives

My3 yr old Fell Pony is currently on Dengie Hifi light and High fibre cubes but have just bought him some Allen and page Slim and healthy mix cos he is quite chubby!! I wanted to get Badminton High Fibre Complete which is good for natives and good doers but i cannot get hold of any

my chubby nf lives out and is ridden/lunged about 4 times a week. I have been giving him a tiny handful of pony nuts and one carrot after exercise as he is a good doer and hyper enough so he gets it as a reward!! However we are getting a bit low on grass so I will be starting to put a bit of hay out in the field overnight too :)

Two native x tb - both are on soaked hay (enough, but not ad lib as they would both eat until they burst!), with a small tea of no molasses chaff with supps. They are in medium work and I wouldn't mind them loosing just a smidge each! Damn that calorific air!

AHhhh I have Heltondale Emma (also by Heltondale Black Prince III) Roddlesworth Octavious, Roddlesworth Briar Rose, Annabelle and my foaly Roddlesworth Just Ted (By Hesket Jock who is brother to Hesket Willow) my auntie and I own the Roddlesworth Prefix .... The ones I own are all in work except mare and foal and they are fed
Handfull of alfa a and bit of sugarbeet with supps

The mares we have that run out on the moor get hay once a day just so they come down so we can check them :)

Now I dream of having a bit of moorland to chuck them out on - I'm on pretty rich grazing which is a nightmare with Fells; Muzzles and electric fencing are my best friend. :D

I bet !!! We have the show and ridden ones off the moor in a field and spring is my worst nightmare especially as they really have no respect for electric fence and take it down walk through it or flip the posts out several times a day and like to take each others muzzles off !!! :)

Yey! Lots of Fell owners! Me too! Mine gets approx 8kg good hay plus a handful of Dengie HiFi Lite to mix his Spillers Lite Balancer in (note the extensive use of the word "Lite" in everything he eats!). :D :D

I used to have quite a number of them over the years (Fells) as well as most other native breeds too.
Feeding ranged between them depending on age/work etc.
All would have HiFi & Moli-chop, and then a selection of either D & H pasture mix or Balanced Horse feeds competition mix - depending on work - with a bit of soaked beet in the worst of the winter.

I have to watch my welsh D's weight majorly, she's out all day in field, has 16lbs of hay overnight and has and handful of happy hoof for breakfast and dinner. She doesn't really need feed but give it to her so she gets something when the others are given their huge meals!

My newforest is currently on nothing at all except a good quality mineral lick, he is a bit overweight so I am using winter to slim him down. He does have plenty of grass in his winter field, he is out 24/7 and has grown a thick winter coat so does not need a rug. I will of course introduce hay if his weight drops too much but if last winter is anything to go by he will not need it unless heavy snow arrives.

Bella is a Sec D x Trad cob and has ad lib hay in the field ( out 24/7 ) and a feed of a scoop and a half of Healthy Hooves a day. According to the bag her daily allowance is 3 scoops a day so have room to increase when the weather gets really bad

My fell pony (Lownthwaite Rubens) and welsh A get half a scoop (small scoop) each of high firbre cubes and a hand full of alfa-A once a day with chopped apples. The fell also gets red cell and they both have really good quality hay.

my connie just gets the grass from the field in the day and 2 sections of hay at night (not soaked or he wont eat it), he is also rugged because he has a blanket clip

My highland is on hay and then grass when he gets to go out. Then small tub/measure thing of formula 4 feet, garlic, a cup or two of low energy equilibrium chop type stuff and 500g of fast release energy mix split in to two feeds though.

The mix was to try get him a bit more energy and sparkle but hasn't really worked so probably take him off that when the bag is finished and try something else.

My porky Sec D gets a handful of pony nuts in the morning and a handful of pony nuts and a handful of chaff at night - this is just to keep him happy when everything else is fed. He's in at night and has a net of well soaked hay overnight and out during the day on average grazing.

Hoping he'll shed a load before the spring as our grazing is pretty lush but resigning myself to purchasing a grazing muzzle!

i'm another fell fanacist! :D Lib (Townend Lib III-Heltondale Black Prince III is her great grandpa!-small world (; ) is fed on dengie hifi lite and A&P quiet cubes, also lots of hay and grass :) xx

I was another Fell Pony owner until recently. :D

I currently have two native crosses and an unregistered Welsh Cob and have owned various other natives in the past.

Currently, two are fed fastfibre with a vitamin and mineral supplement and are on rationed good quality hay.

The other a Welsh D x TB is fed hayledge, alfa-a and speedibeet as he is harder to keep weight on.

In the past I've fed Baileys Lo-cal, Hi-fi Lite, Happy Hoof and Fibrebeet, Slim and Healthy, Hi-fibre cubes, Badminton Finre Plus Nuggets depending on the ponies condition, age, workload etc. I tend to feed Outshine to those needing to gain weight.

Genie is currently having a handful of happy hoof, half a handful of coolmix, a scoop of vit/min supplement (the small scoops supplements come with, not a feed scoop obviously!), half a scoop of garlic and half a scoop of biotin. At night she has 4 slices of old but not dusty hay, and is out during the day.

Titch has a scoop of happy hoof, half a handful of coolmix, and the same supplements as Genie. She has slightly less hay at night.
