What do you feed your yearlings and 2 year olds? And what breeds are they?

I feed my Cleveland 2yr old, 1 scoop alfa oil, 1 scoop sugar beet, 1 scoop barley rings and 3/4 scoop of pasture cubes plus he gets a balancer twice a day and ad lib haylage...He's really difficult to keep weight on but is looking good on this, not like my bank balance!

I feed my tb/wb 2yr old filly a large scoop of alfa A oil and half a small scoop of balancer twice a day. She has a third of a bale of hay morning and evening, comes in at night and is lightly rugged. Must be a good doer! BTW she's about 16hh atm.

Ad lib hay/haylage mixed, dengie light one scoop, cup of topspec balancer, half scoop wet speedy beet twice a day. He was out but is on box rest at the moment and I have not changed his diet at all except to make sure he has enough hay/haylage as he has no access to grazing at all. He looks good on this - he is 27 months TBxQH and is 16hh.

Hay and mineral lick.
They live out and are Quarter horses and a couple of Paint/Standardbred crosses.
Yearlings are about 13h now.

mines is 16hh and 20 months. oldenburg. she's gets hay as much as she'll eat, and 2 feeds consisting of half scoops of happy hoof and mare and youngstock. she is getting a little sugar beet but is coming off it cos she's psychotic on it!

Bloomin hell! Thats a LOT of feed!! do you have any pics of your boy?

My 3 year old CB is on a handfull of alfa lite, handful of hifi lite, cup of high fibre cubes, a third of a scoop of speedi beet plus equivite twice a day and add lib (half a normal bale) hay and looks perfect!

He's been on virtually the same since I got him looking quite poor at 16 months old... just upped the hay a bit!

ETS he's standing at 17hh now so not exactly small!

Mojo turned 2 this month, he's an arab/cob x and is currently 14 hh

Sophi is a 14 hh Gypsy Cob and turned 2 in oct 09

Both are on 2 scoops sugarbeet

1 scoop Hifi

1 scoop garlic chaff

2 scoops pasture mix

Ad Lib haylage

They are out 24/7

My gypsy cob colt is rising two. He is on ad-lib good quality hay and has access to a mineral/vitamin lick. He is out 24/7 with the rest of my boys. He is in fantastic condition with a lovely sheen on his coat. The fact that he looks so good, tells me his diet is adequate and no need for additional feedstuffs/supplements.

I think the media pressurise us into over feeding and over supplementing our horses. Keep it simple is my rule :)

Bella is 2 and on 2 scoops of Healthy Hooves and ad lib hay. Spenser is Part bred Welsh will be 2 in April and is on the same and the little fattie (Sec A) gets under a scoop of the same so she thinks she is getting something and is 4 this year

They all live out 24/7

Mine probbaly gets far more than he needs. He is 19mths and gets 2 feed a day consisting of scoop of sugar beet, scoop of general, bog standard coarse mix and a couple of handfuls of alfa a. When i say scoops I just mean those small, orangey scoops not the big round scoops you get.

He is out 24/7 on 12 acres and the lot of them (5) get hay thrown out twice a day as well. Basically the youngster only gets fed to keep him happy as the others, who do do some work get fed.

Cob X to make 14.3, 2 this time. 1/2 kg pony nuts and a shared ( between 2) haynet of haylage about 12lbs, 1/3 a bale of barley straw.
Has not lost any weight, he put on a lot in September with the flush of grass.
