what do you sing to your horse? happy post!!!

Not sure I should admit this but I sing 10 little ducks go swimming one day, Millie seems to like it and it keeps her attention on me and not the monsters in the bushes. I did try singing 10 speckled frogs but she showed her dislike of this so I had to change back. My daughter thinks I'm mad singing to her so maybe I should show her this to prove I'm not the only one.

As kids, my friends and I used to hack whilst mostly singing Abba or Beatles songs. Then she got a new horse called Mickey and all we could sing was 'Hey Mickey, your so fine, your so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey...' ad nauseum, before I knew what ear worms were! I no longer try to find a song to fit a horse as now they have gone it makes me hugely sad whenever I hear their song on the radio, eg Lady Antebellum 'It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now...' (blub, blub, blub), or Moon river for a horse I so wanted to make friends with but who wouldn't let me in to his heart to become his Huckleberry friend, and then he died :=(

I do still hum whatever I have heard on the radio but I no longer allow myself an 'our tune' for each horse.

When my pony was walking briskly I used to sing Rolf Harris's 'Two Little Boys had Two Little Toys'. Not sure I should now!

I don't sing songs I just chat to them, people are use to me now and stop asking who I'm talking to. My highland is my pride and joy and I just call him " special boy" all the time and kiss his nose. Think he knows he's my babe

Old C of E hymns, usually "All Things Bright and Beautiful", Buddhist chants (very good for leaping-about Arabs) and World War One marching songs such as "Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag . . ." ;)

When the kids were little it was "Horsey, horsey, don't you stop", as we whisked along in the governess cart.
Now it varies. Like others, it's often Disney / showtunes (with the kids) and hymns (guilty atheist pleasure - I was raised methodist).

I like 'Rawhide' best - but only when I ride by myself, as apparently I'm embarassing.

I sing whatever is stuck in my head at the time. Though recently I've taken to singing 'Shake it Off' by Taylor Swift at competitions, I think it makes us both feel better!

I sing ice ice baby to my boy :D he seems to enjoy it, everyone else not so much haha! its been stuck in my head for months since i saw it on step brothers that bf likes to constantly watch :D:D

ah guys, you are so funny and have brightened my morning reading your replies, BSL , i now have visions of you on your horse with saddle bags full of small beer bottles, drinking them one by one, lobbing them away and singing your head off!( i know, i know, never drink and ride!) my friend has made up her own song , the middle goes'' i don't belong here, i should be shopping'' another has 'who wants to live forever' very apt in her case as she has the maddest trotter ever!
sing it out i say, it's good for the soul and your fine friends!

Big Lad gets Satisfaction by the rolling stones cos it's his trot music and every time I trot I think of it. Sometimes he gets "Boopa loopa loopa loopy doopy doo dah ploppity plop, clippety clop, dancey dancey norse norse"

Patchy one gets something along the lines of "Thomas, Thomas the horse, everyone knows your name, Thomas, Thomas the horse, you've got a big patchy bum, Thomas Thomas Thomas ping ping ping...."

Bob just gets a lot of "Bobba Lobba Lobba, Bobbity Bibbity Bob"

Stallionpants goes "just cos you got balls baby, don't mean you're gonna keep 'em, nananananaaaaa"

Oh yes I am SO rock and roll

I'm real annoying, and tend to sing anything i've heard that day but replace some of the words with my horses name. My most popular hit is probably 'Fae was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar, when gracie walked in' And the chorus is always Gracie. ' Don't you want me Gracie, don't you want me ooooooohhhh!'

This horse, the Archers theme as it works well with his walk! His name is Bob (there's a lot of them around!) so it goes Bob de Bob de Bob de Bob, Bob de Bob de Bob Bob...

Old horse used to get the Laurel and Hardy theme quite often - but he was called Ollie...

Mine are usually "calm down" songs so I like ones where you can slow the tempo right down if necessary. Dogs also have their own songs which probably makes me a desperately sad person ;)

Daddy Cool by Boney M but I change the word "Daddy to "Annie" as my mare is called Annie!
Annie, Annie Cool, Annie Annie Cool .... She seems to like it! :)

I sing "lleucu llwyd" - Welsh folk song thing which means grey Lucy (my mare is dappled), Taylor Swift "I just want to know you better" and "show me the way to go home" if I'm desperate. I don't realise most of the time that I'm doing it.

At competitions-yellow polka dot bikini
At home- depends on the first thing that pops into my head, usually something along the lines of mambo no.5, hey mambo, car plane pour moi, simply irresistible, anything from the shrek movies and sometimes ricky martin songs. Not sure whether to be ashamed or not but the horse doesn't seem to mind. Although i think he may be tone deaf.

Camptown Races & Lily the Pink! Or, occasionally, the Don McClean American Pie. Baby horse needs a lot of reassuring!

Another for the unseasonal Christmas carols... Usually The First Noel, or Three Kings from Perrrrrsian Lands Afar. I get a bit carried away on the latter though!
